    My dividend journey began when I realized that two particular expenses in my budget were always going to go up and never go down. The two expenses were taxes and insurance. I realized that the dramatic rise in both will need some added income. So, I started buying shares paying dividends. I can now see that this will be the path I need to take to make sure those two expenses will not overtake my future income.

      As a beginner, educate yourself, Learn the basics of investing and the stock market. There are many resources available online, including books, articles, and online courses. It’s a good idea to diversify your portfolio across different stocks and sectors to minimize risk. I’ve heard of people accruing over $550k during recessions and inflation, its important to do your own research.

    I would think that a major benefit of dividend investing is that calculating portfolio size needed is not relevant. We don't care about the value of the portfolio. We care about the sustainable income it pays. As you invest you can gradually see the income rise as you invest more and pull the retirement trigger when it's high enough regardless of the market sentiment.

    • @eloign7147
      @eloign7147 Před 3 měsíci +6

      Calculating the portfolio size needed is very relevant. - How else do you know how much to contribute?

    • @rogerwheelers4322
      @rogerwheelers4322 Před 3 měsíci +7

      By calculating how much additional income the contributions produce and estimating how that income rises. the capital value will fluctuate up and down over time so the amount of income new additions give you varies. so capital value being high with a market yielding 2% is no worse for retirement than the same portfolio at a different timepoints where the capital value is half and so the yield is 4%. so long as the yield is sustainable in real terms the capital value being half does not matter. its the same income stream at a different moment of low market sentiment vs high market sentiment.

      Although there are many of chances in the financial markets, I've learnt enough over the previous few years to be sceptical about that. Knowing where to focus is crucial. When I started properly monitoring my investments, I started to amass riches and made over a million dollars in net profit. The importance of professional mentoring cannot be understated. Without the right coaching, people are more likely to make errors and lose money.

    I have been a dividend focused investor for a long time. This does not mean I don't own growth stocks, I do. A well rounded portfolio should be a mixture of both categories. One way to minimize the anxiety out of stock market investing, is to make sure you keep a large cash cushion. I invest in the market, but never put all my money in market.

      @@Johnsmoneyadventures I actually generate money from qyld in an ISA which is tax free and move it to the Pension fund. This makes everything worth 20 percent more because the government tops up anything you put in a pension fund. It also gives you tax relief on your income. I then use it to buy global tech mutual fund shares which are up more than 20 percent

      My comment about how I use qyld has been removed. Not sure why but I have explained about ISAs and SiPPs and how you can get 20 % additional plus additional tax relief.... not for the us though

I sold my MO and still waiting for leg and 3M to go back up. I might have many years to wait just to be even with dividend payments and capital gains.

    If it doesn't pay at least 7% I rarely bother. Covered call ETFs are like gambling. Never invest in what you don't understand. REITS I understand and they can be lucrative.

    • @slabbygabby
      @slabbygabby Před 5 měsíci +2

      Yeah but if you want income then who cares. That extra percentage points you get from covered calls are important if you want as much income as possible. Also I have reits. My qyld is doing way better than my Realty income right now. I don't know what your talking about. Also covered calls are not gambling at all. They are basically a hedge... I'm taking it you don't understand that term either

    What about buying a dividend stock right before the day of and reselling that same stock the day after and continually doing that all year long.

    • @Johnsmoneyadventures
      @Johnsmoneyadventures  Před 4 měsíci

      When the dividend amount is paid, the value goes down by that amount on the date of payment. So, if you resell, you cannot gain from the dividend. All in all, you will break even. This works only if you hold it for the long term.

    • @Johnsmoneyadventures
      @Johnsmoneyadventures  Před 5 měsíci +1

      Starting with a lower amount yields lower returns initially, which are then reinvested. Subsequently, the new amount will generate slightly higher returns than the previous amount, and this cycle continues. Around the 20-year mark, the returns become significant, and after reinvestment, they become even higher.

    • @alexyoung3126

      Dividends are dope. Personally, I sometimes use my dividends to buy other dividend and growth stocks for diversification instead of reinvesting in the same stock. To each their own methods though. The good thing is that you’re investing in the first place and that’s what’s important. Salute for the content!

      I agree. Based on personal experience working with an investment advisor, I currently have $1m in a well-diversified portfolio that has experienced exponential growth. It's not only about having money to invest in stocks, but you also need to be knowledgeable, persistent, and have strong hands to back it up.
