What is probation?

You've probably heard of other people being on probation and may have been offered probation if you're being charged with a crime. What is probation and how does it work? Probation is simply a way to avoid serving time in jail or prison, but it requires that you follow certain conditions to stay out of jail. It's also different than deferred adjudication because you will have a conviction on your record if you end up on probation.

How long does a person stay on probation? Are sex offenders on probation for a lifetime? Do they continue to do community service, pay fees, have ongoing court costs etc.? This is an eye opening video. There are many layers of probation that I was completely unaware of and you enlightened me.

When the sentence terms in probation and judgment copy does not have community service or its number of hours. Do we really have to complete a community service as the probation did not say to complete it

If probation is telling you to do community service, but you don't think that it was ordered as part of probation, call the attorney that represented you. They should be able to tell you if it was ordered or is required as part of your probation.

Are there travel restrictions while on probation?

Usually they dont let you leave the county unless you ask for permission and explain why your traveling

I don’t know but I just finished a first offenders program that is very similar to probation. I had to stay out of trouble for a year and the case gets dismissed afterwards. My felony case got dismissed on September 1st, 2023! Now my record is still clean of convictions! Being in the system totally sucks!
