Its the same story here in Knoxville, private school bus drivers don't obey road laws and are constantly running red lights during the morning routes. And our buses don't even have seat belts.
I had the experience one time, bus driver driving like a road warrior. Definitely felt they were above the law.
Any director that says “we can’t require our contractors to tell us” should be fired
Some districts contract bus driving out to independent companies like Durham. There may a stipulation somewhere that says the district "can't require our contractors to tell us." If that's the case, good luck firing that director. If he's got paperwork on his side, you're kicking a dead horse.

You know what’s really sad? The parents would still be mad if they did everything right because the bus would be late.
I’m beginning to think that the people who design bus routes (in America, Australia or otherwise) do it a 2 in the morning when there is no traffic (and no one to pick up) and then expect it to work in real world application. Getting kids on the bus takes time (even more if they have a physical ailment or disability) which slows down the route as well.
I reckon if they look at those ‘repeat offenders’ routes they will find high traffic density at least in some of those cases slowing down (and maybe overtaxing) the route. Not that I think breaking the law is right, but comparing paying a few tickets, against the constant complaints of parents about how late the service is, those drivers probably thought the tickets were worth it.
School bus drivers should be fire!
Some of these buses appear to be in a field trip line, once you lose sight of the bus leading you’re lost. Not an excuse to run the lights but maybe for some clarifying.
I drive a school bus. I see some of our drivers do bad things. It is out there. So what if the bus driver drives perfectly and a 4-wheeler hits the bus going through a red light or whatever? The worst are the parents. They make u-turns and backup in school zones. They pick up and drop off in the school zone. They pass my bus on the door side when I am picking up so they can get their kid on the bus. They will block the bus as it is leaving a stop to get their kid on the bus, because they could not get there fast enough in a car when the walkers are there on time.
Our buses have Zonar and when a bus speeds a notification is sent to the office and the driver is brought in etc. Zonar can tell if a bus stopped completely at a stop sign as well. When one of our drivers get a red light or camera speeding ticket, they pay the price hard. Some districts do nothing but throw away the citations. that is stupid. We have a few drivers that should be taken off the road. But there are many many many more 4-wheeler that need to be taken off the road. I have been driving school buses and city buses for 14 years and no tickets, accidents and have never had to slam on the brakes. Mostly because I drive slow and do not trust any other driver out there. If someone wants to cut me off, I just let off and let them in. What is a micro second of time. I would rather have them in front of me than the back. OK, enough of my ranting lol. I do agree many school bus drivers are stupid and drive aggressively. But fair is fair and we are not the only ones on the road. Oh, yeah, the kids. School buses are raised high enough for 4 wheelers will go underneath and not into.
REALLY a 23,000 pound vehicle can just stop like that you don't want to hurt the children on the bus it is also heavier with students on the bus and a yellow light turning red that fast while a bus just barley made it through the four way that shouldn't be a red light violation. yeah I know every student on them buses should be safe but seriously!

School buses weigh about 15 tons or 30,000 GRW. Buses don’t always stop on a dime. However, running a red light, is inexcusable. Speeding at 62 mph I find hard to believe since most school buses are suppose to governed at 45-60 mph, so someone tampered with governors on those school buses. Those bus drivers knew better, they are suppose to be professional drivers.

Stephen Sullivan I think you miss the point. A school bus can’t stop on a dime. However, as a driver you should plan to stop and know how to at a red light. I should know this I drove buses for a living.

Your school district doesn’t care about the safety about the students, cars are doing 55 mph and 80 mph on highways yet imagine a school bus doing 40 on a 55 zone or 40 on a 70 zone because your school district is retarded… lol
They can slow down before the light change, but they just wanted drive fast and of course these bus drivers must get Fired and lose their driver license.

You are absolutely right. I am a bus driver. And you can watch the light for how long it has been still but people have to keep in mind that those buses operate on abs. To save lives sometimes it's hard to stop on a dime and it could lock up spin and flip over.

And that person is right. I dont think bus drivers are just running lights all wheely neely. Sometimes we get put in a tough spot. Youre in that gray area where you either have to slam on the brakes and have kids airborne and make the light. It sucks and is rare, but happens. If course the egregious red light violations are way more unacceptable

@@acedriverboi2429 Regardless if there is an excuse or not. Its going to happen sir.. some of those yellow lights are preposterous. Like I said, u get caught in a tough spot. If a red light is ran, and its bordlerline(just turned red) in all likelihood its probably more safe than slamming on the brakes hurting children. As you can look ways and both be clear. Im not justifying anything, it just is what it is.

In the state I live in, you get 3 speeding tickets,. On a CDL , License , you will lose your job over , same thing for accidents. 3 a piece, not proud of it , but , it causes insurance rates to go up as high risks. School buses and Transit buses you have to have a CDL License. Air brakes, so , you need both , a medical card and a CDL ,. Again, 3 accidents or 3 speeding tickets, you WILL lose your job. It's thst simple. It's the State of Oregon.

Red light running is common place these days with all kinds of vehicles. Sorry to say, school; buses are no exception to the rule.
Districts can cancel a contract, or, they can refuse to accept bids from any contractor that they feel is not meeting the standards set by the district.
School bus drivers? Of course they have to abide by the rules as well. There are no excuses. OH my gosh, people are idiots .
