    Here's what Tagore wrote:
    Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high;
    Where knowledge is free;
    Where the world has not been broken up into fragments by narrow domestic walls;
    Where words come out from the depth of truth;
    Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection;
    Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way into the dreary desert sand of dead habit;
    Where the mind is led forward by thee into ever-widening thought and action
    Into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake.

    The song is actually a poem from the book Gitanjali for which Tagore got his Noble prize. It was translated by him only. This is quite like an anthem used globally and as recently as Jan 2020, Martin Sheen was heard reciting this in a speech at climate change protest. Obama used this as his introductory lines during his parliamentary speech while in Delhi. I would request both of you to do some research on Tagore. It's like saying we don't know Shakespeare - but many times worse. Tagore was a nationalist, educantionist, song writer, poet, drama writer, author, dancer and singer. He started the first modern day gurukul (school among the nature) called Shantiniketan. Many global dignitaries have studied or visited his school. If your biz is India you can't be still ignorant about Tagore.

    This is one of the poems from the book 'Gitanjali' (Songs Offerings) for which the legend, the greatest of them all Rabindranath Tagore won the Nobel Prize in literature - the first Indian, the first Asian, the first song writer to win so. He is like the Shakespeare from the East, or even more. He is worshipped as the God by the Bengalis. He is a poet, a song writer, a composer, a musician, a painter, a novelist, a educationist and what not! He even established a Gurukul styled University in Shantiniketan, West Bengal. Students from all around the globe even today cone their to study. The only poet to have composed/influenced the national anthem fo three different countries, including the Indian national anthem. He was the one who named Mohandas Gandhi as the 'Mahatma', Indira Gandhi as 'Priyadarshini'. He was the influencer to the lives of Satyajit Ray or another Nobel Laureate Dr. Amartya Sen. He has left many more world famous disciples, those who changed the society and the world. He was Albert Einstein's favourite. From Mandela to Gandhi, Barak Obama to Jon Major - his lines influenced speeches of verious world leaders. Do research more on him. His songs are called Rabindra Sangeet. There are so many and so many versions available on the internet and youtube. It's like an ocean with thousands of songs, poetries, hundreds of novels and short stories, and paintings.

    I am surprised that after more than 2 yrs of exploring Indian art and creativity (and after Rick's being in a relationship with Indrani- a Bengali living in Kolkata - for almost two years), you are hearing about Rabindranath Tagore only now!
    And then too - the focus was more on Rehman( who is brilliant in what he does) and the subbers. I don't know, maybe it's just me. I am mesmerized by the depth and beauty of the words every time I hear this or any other of Gurudev Tagore's songs(Rabindra sangeet).
    For a lot of people across the world, Bengalis in particular, the name Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore is reverential. Calling him great, or a legend is an understatement and too presumptuous for me to attempt.

    I prostate myself in front of Rabindranath Thakur and the highly patriotic and moving words that he wrote at a time when people needed all the guts and gumption to go up against the mighty giant that was Great Britain. A.R. Rehman and all the musicians present were top notch. I also thank Souradeep and Amruta to make this experience so heart touching. I am so proud of our heritage! 🙏🙏🌺😊

    What a vision our forefathers had for our country! It saddens me to what we have been reduced. The polarisation and disruption, oppressions, discouraging scientific temper, promoting communal division, hatred, and all the other vicious things that we are being fed. Too bad we haven’t yet realised our country’s vision. But we will, one day.

    Tagore wasn't alive when his songs were adopted as national anthems by India and then later by Bangladesh. He passed away in 1941 and the english lyrics are by Tagore himself.
    Fun Fact : Martin Sheen while giving a speech in the Climate Action Protest in Washington DC last year recited the English version of the poetry.

    Fun Fact
    "The Star Spangled Banner" written based on resistance at Fort McHenry in Battle of Baltimore where UK troops used concreve rocket which described in anthem as "rocket's red glare".
    These were some of the first instances of using rockets in modern warfare.
    Those rockets were designed, based on rockets used by Southern Indian ruler Tipu Sultan against British force.
    After defeating Tipu, Britishers first took that design and designed own rockets.
    -- Little snippet
    -- Arthur Wellesley brother of then Indian Governor general Lord Wellesley, who led the force against Tipu Sultan and defeated him, later led the battle of Waterloo and defeated Napoleon and later became the PM of UK.
