You're so right, as a society we have become desensitised to the horrific events that would have shook the world previously. Kim has it spot on, we remember the names of the killers but hardly ever remember the names of the victims...we 'Make Them Famous'. I adore Kim, blends genres and genders beautifully...Great reaction, not all reactors get the powerful message behind this song, thanks!

Sadly, Marilyn Manson did this same thing back in the '90s (that's how he got his name - a combination of Marilyn Monroe and Charles Manson, pointing out that we make the very beautiful just as famously as the violent, criminally insane). I say sadly because clearly we have learned nothing since then.

This is the first reaction I've seen to this song by someone who "got it". This song is from his album "A Gradual Decline in Morale" which is a concept album told in first person about a guy spiraling down mentally and emotionally to the conclusion of this song basically. It's an amazing album. Thank you for your honest reaction. I've seen so many reactions to this song where they don't even mention the message on purpose for fear of backlash. This reaction and your evil sense of humor in the beginning with the whole Johnathan Davis thing 🤣made me subscribe to your channel.

Thank you, Sir. It’s about time our generation (I feel so old saying that) speaks up about the differences from our 80’s to now on a large platform. Personally, I feel these ‘issues’ picked up when we got internet. Then really picked up when social media came into play. I freak out as well when I get the school numbers on my screen. Such sad times

i dont think the internet has played much of a part in this issue just the ability to be informed about it the issue seems to be quite simple in my opionion the ability to access these weapons i come to relize as im in my 40s live in nz and have had 2 mass shootings in my life time thats 2 ever not per year you can blame who or what you like but nz and aus and other countrys made changes to the real problem gun laws and the types and have reduced gun violance incidents last mass shooting in nz 2015 semi autos illegal to own without a collecters permit or be in the army our police carry tazers weapons in lock box in trunk as if peolpe dont carry why do they need them i could go on but america wont change if people think they have the right to own a deadly weapon

Growing up in the 80s and 90s I wasn’t too surprised when Columbine happened, I’d gotten used to seeing people bullied and being punished as bad as the bullies, administration cared more about the paperwork involved than the victims, that said ten years earlier I would’ve been surprised but the older I got the less teachers seemed to care for the welfare of its students, getting older I have seen people continue to downplay the significance of mental health in these cases, that there’s a shooting daily in the US and people are still pretending these are rare cases and that the survivors of these are “crisis actors” is horrifying. I’m glad you were able to survive your bullying and have become an advocate for mental health and am proud you didn’t allow that to turn you into just another bully. Thanks for your analysis of the video and trying to see the meaning behind the violence rather than just surface exploitation. You’ve earned yourself another subscriber. 😊

First off, it ain't nice, it ain't pretty. It is however art, and it's got a message that's on point with a real problem. Unfortunately nobody can see the 600 ape in the room with us. Or rather we do, we just don't ask "How and why did that gorilla get there. And shouldn't we do something about it?" We just argue about who's fault Kong is, without addressing the issues. Which doesn't help really. Maybe we should tackle the problems that led to these problems in the first place. Maybe we should actually work on it together. Kim is intentionally slapping us in the face here, because it's time to wake up from the bad dream, because the nightmare is real. And by having the guts to react to this, our host is giving us all a nice strong cup of black coffee. It's not likely to be appreciated but he did it anyway 👍

As well as growing up in media work post 9/11, I wonder how much their local/community culture had an effect too. Hobart is only 50-60 km across the bay from Port Arthur, the scene of Australia's worst ever mass shooting, and the spur for our government to instigate massive gun reforms. I know the cultural shock of that massacre still echos within the country, and I imagine the local community would be even more so. Combines with the world changes of this century, it would probably leave quite a mark

I had to give you a sub for your commentary on this song. Most people just look at the shock value and it's fun to see them just get thrown by Kim's content. However, you took the time to actually look at and address the issues that Kim confronts with this song. As I commented in the pinned comment, Marilyn Manson pointed this out to us back in the '90s - and *HE* was labeled as the problem. No doubt there are many that will and have done the same with Kim. Instead of looking for real solutions, the powers that be look for scapegoats and ways to snatch freedoms from the people. It saddens me. I have even considered moving out of the US because of what is becoming increasingly common.
I live in the middle of nowhere where hunting is huge and there are more guns than people. We have never had any issues with violence or shootings (that weren't accidental - and those were very rare because we are all taught at a very young age to respect the weapon). In the last year, we have now had a few shootings and several bomb scares at the schools. We are rural - we know each other - and yet it has finally crept into every corner of our society.
It is frightening and what scares me just as much (if not more) is what those idiots on both sides of the aisle are going to do to get it under control. Because they are not going to actually address the issue, they are going to trample on our freedoms and turn us into something we are not - the whole time ripping the country in half. They have already turned the rhetoric up 1000% and they keep giving us the most worthless morons they can find to vote for. It really is starting to feel hopeless and like a losing battle. Sometimes I think it's actually what they want (notice I said *THEY* - both sides are to blame and no one side is "better" than the other). I fear for the future of the USA.

At the risk of prompting a shitstorm, as an Aussie, I do reckon that at least some part of it is government legislation and the gun culture in the US. After the Port Arthur Massacre in 96, the then-government - the Conservative party - issued bans on high-powered weapons. We haven't had mass shootings on the same scale since, if at all.
Also, while Oz did have a gun culture at the time, it wasn't coded into the country's constitution like it is in the US. Not to mention that unlike in Oz, from what I understand, every state has their own laws regarding guns/right to carry/licenses etc. When people say its multifaceted, I believe them, because I think the rot is a lot deeper than people want to admit.

Oh man... I really like your take on this. I'm a few years younger than you. So.. Honestly.. I think I have become.. Almost immune to this whole situation. Seeing it on TV, or in videos anyway. I know the 1st time I took my eldest son to school. I was looking at the set up of the school so I could figure out a plan of action for my son.
I do think it was respectful for him to remove certain things. But part of me wishes he wouldn't have because it's the truth.. It doesn't mean I don't care. It doesn't mean I'm not aware. I just want people to actually look at what's going on, get out of their emotions and talk about it. Work together to find a solution. It's not going to be figured out unless we do. And there's no use in looking the other way.
There's only ever been 3 options given to use for a solution. We're supposed to settle for 1 of them when no one agrees. Where's the sense?
