New Zealand's Coffin-Building Club Helps Seniors Approach Death Positively

- Most people are afraid of death. But members New Zealand’s Kiwi Coffin Club are facing it head on. Founded by Katie Williams, a former midwife and hospice nurse, members build and then decorate their own customized coffins as a way of celebrating their lives and highlighting their unique personalities. Beyond the coffin building itself, the club has built a strong, supportive community where people can have frank conversations and reflect on their future with Members think this healthier approach to death can help other people who might otherwise be lonely or afraid at the end of their lives.

Old folks in the US used to build their own coffins, and sleep in them to make sure they fit comfortably.
Stored them in the attic!
And some people had their own little cemetery in the backyard!!!

This is a great idea, these people have come to grips with transition from here to there.
It does not have to be a fearful journey.
I would love to participate in a club like this, absolutely mentally freeing.

Such a great idea on soooo many levels. Kindship from the group, creativity, you can show your personality, reduce costs, make a lasting impression / statement, the list goes on.
Not to mention, what it must do to help your prepare mentally, being around a whole bunch of like minded people preparing the same way.

It's nice that they can find joy in the thought of death, I most certainly can't and I wish I could.
If you like this series, you might also like ‘in a nutshell’. I like it more because they’re really good at making complicated things easy to understand. As well as telling you about solutions to big problems. And predicting the future with the power of science.
This video, for me, is unique. It's amazing how these people seem to have such kind, warm, and calm hearts. it somehow gives me joy and courage. these people seem to have a good life.

I’m a chirpy chippy and I’m making my own and it’s going to be airbrushed with slayer decals and im going to put my iPod on repeat with every slayer song with speakers and a battery backup and a solar panel on my headstone. My family have my two songs to be played for my service the first is god hates us all and second is south of heaven may even have time for post-mortem at the end but this is what I’ve requested and if it’s not respected I’ll be back each night to wake them ⚰️🇦🇺👍hopefully when / if anyone visits they can still here the guys banging away

You know the one guy is a traditional old carpenter, he's missing a finger on one hand, and two on the other. When I was a kid in the 60s-70s, old men missing fingers were a common sight.

What about green burial, preparing the body in a( casket) for lack of a better word to come once again a part of the soil from whince it came.
