Lyrics:
High noon, oh I'd sell my soul for water
Nine years worth of breakin' my back
There's no sun in the shadow of the wizard
See how he glides, why he's lighter than air
Oh I see his face!
Where is your star?
Is it far, is it far, is it far?
When do we leave?
I believe, yes, I believe
In the heat and the rain
With whips and chains
To see him fly
So many die
We build a tower of stone
With our flesh and bone
Just to see him fly
But don't know why
Now where do we go?
Hot wind, moving fast across the desert
We feel that our time has arrived
The world spins, while we put his dream together
A tower of stone to take him straight to the sky
Oh I see his face!
Where is your star?
Is it far, is it far, is it far?
When do we leave?
Hey, I believe, I believe
In the heat and the rain
With whips and chains
Just to see him fly
Too many die
We build a tower of stone
With our flesh and bone
To see him fly
But we don't know why
Ooh, now where do we go
All eyes see the figure of the wizard
As he climbs to the top of the world
No sound, as he falls instead of rising
Time standing still, then there's blood on the sand
Oh I see his face!
Where was your star?
Was it far, was it far
When did we leave?
We believed, we believed, we believed
In heat and rain
With the whips and chains
To see him fly
So many died
We built a tower of stone
With our flesh and bone
To see him fly
But why
In all the rain
With all the chains
Did so many die
Just to see him fly
Look at my flesh and bone
Now, look, look, look, look,
Look at his tower of stone
I see a rainbow rising
Look there, on the horizon
And I'm coming home, I'm coming home, I'm coming home
Time is standing still
He gave back my will
Ooh ooh ooh ooh
Going home
I'm going home
My eyes are bleeding
And my heart is leaving here
But it's not home
But it's not home
Ooh
Take me back
He gave me back my will
Ooh ooh ooh ooh
Going home
I'm going home
My eyes are bleeding
And my heart is leaving here
But it's not home
But it's not home
Ooh
Take me back, take me back
Back to my home ooh, ooh, ooh - Hudba
This is the highest point that hard rock can reach - lyrically, sonically. A larger-than-life tale 'performed' by larger-than-life musicians. Even a hundred years from now, Stargazer will remain a benchmark. An unattainable peak.
Beautifully stated.
And yet, it was sung by one of the smallest in life rock stars. RIP RJD
@@reginaldsmithers3468im not 100% sure on this, but RJD died in 2010, this says it was remastered in 2011 so it might not be sung by him in this version
@@Mono-eu3so YOU ARE SOOOOO WRONG..THIS IS RONNIE JAMES DIO ON FN VOCALS DUMMY!!!..I HAD THIS ALBUM WHEN IT FIRST WAS RELEASED.. RJD VOCALS
@@Mono-eu3so Hello psychotic, thank you for your input. I am not remotely an expert in anything. That being said, to my knowledge, the remastering of the Rainbow album "Rainbow Rising" (which is the album in question containing the track we are discussing) involved taking what are called "master" tapes, likely are magnetic reel to reel tapes which could be as wide as 2" (for professional use). Being recorded in 1976, these masters would most likely have been strictly analogue recordings. Remastering, in this situation generally involves converting the tracks (music) on the tape to digital. For lack of a better explanation, the folks doing the remastering try to "clean up" the original recording. Possibly they will attempt to get rid of buzz, hiss, or myriad other "imperfections" in the original analogue recording. Remastering in this case is not like situation where Hollywood takes an old classic movie and "reboots" it with some current ass hat actors/actresses. For this reason, I am extremely confident that Ronnie James Dio is the same singer on the "remastered" version of the album "Rainbow Rising. I really like Dio (as I think/hope you do too) and I am saddened that he is no longer alive. Than again, for myself, I would rather die during a time when people thought kind thoughts about me than die when everyone thinks I'm an asshole. I wish you well psychotic. Your interest in Dio pleases me.
October 2023 still as fresh as 1976 what a legend of a song ❤❤
I’ve been waking up and putting this tune on every New Years morning for the past 35 years.
This tune gives you BALLS For the year.........
Lesson # 5
Maybe someday, this song will get it's due reward and be recognized for what it is; a timeless classic of showmanship, imagery, story telling and of course, supreme vocals of Ronnie and playing of Ritchie!
I hear Ya!!! Storytelling and just the outright, upmost, supreme, and utter, growl voice. His showmanship is right up there. I can't get enough of his voice either. Yeah, who's this Ritchie you speak of? lol
This song never will be loud enough for my ears
Nathália Nogueira Rock on, girl!

My 14 year old daughter and I just heard this for the first time this month. Holy cow. And she just started listening to 80s hard rock/metal. And now this, something that was before my time. And we were both blown away. And now we listen to it every chance we get, which is on our daily rides to her school.
What a ride!

From 6:40.... Absolutely stratospheric. What a song, album, lineup. Once in a lifetime. Thanks for everything RJD 🙏
if there's one song you would point people to for understanding how heavy metal can be epic, masterful, layered... it's this song.
The ending to this is one of the greatest moments in rock history (along with the epic guitar solo of course). The orchestra kicking in with Dio singing with full emotion, sounding like a freaking god. Gives me chills every time I hear this masterpiece.
So true. The way all comes together in the end, with Dio just going all in with his voice, is chillingly epic!
Very true the emotion gets me all the time. Wish he was still here
...
Every fucking time dude, never fails to give me goosebumps. RIP Dio
And those moments never came back... MTV is today the killer of this glorious músic...
its the last song I listen to before I go to sleep...sheer masterpiece and no one sounds like Ronnie.
First time listener. I just experienced a very unexpected and profound range of emotions and feelings. A true work of art... RIP RJD
For me, the absolute pinnacle of this kind of high-drama rock/orchestral music. I bought this album the day it arrived in Australia and it still makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck all these years later. Absolutely epic writing and performance from everyone.
Most underrated song of the 70’s. If not of all time!!
For me this short part it's what Really makes the song.

"But why
In all the rain
With all the chains
Did so many die
Just to see him fly
Look at my flesh and bone
Now look, look, look, look, look at his tower of stone
I see a rainbow rising
Look there on the horizon
And I'm coming home, I'm coming home, I'm coming home"
For me, now that the slave knows that the Wizard has died, and that he can go home, his just trying to make sense of it all, when he asks "*but why, in all the rain, With all the chains, Did so many die, Just to see him fly*" It feels like that the Wizard's deeds were so evil that he (the slave) simply cant se the motivation behind it, why would some one do such a thing?, and so he curses the wizard when he asks for us the listeners to look at his "flesh and bone" and then the wizard's tower, and ask for us to decide if it seems worth it, if in some kinda of twisted and perversed way such evil could ever be justified.
and for me when "he is going home", he's actually dying while gazing at the Stars that could guide him to his land.
This is the most epic hard rock/heavy metal song in history! It is full of power and emotion!
This still gives me goosebumps after all these years.

Testing the best stereo I ever owned - and this is one of the first tracks I played.
Memories of riding a bike for half a day to buy the vinyl of this in 1977.
Did I mention I painted this on my bed room wall when I was 13? My mom came in and went wow that’s pretty! I was like yo mom it’s hard rock and she said no it’s a rainbow. And I turned on stargazer in my tape player and she said he’s got a great voice. Mom stepped up in the hero section that day!!! The ultimate line upright here! Long live rock n roll !
Cool mom.
You painted, I got it tattooed.
I discovered this song a couple of years ago while walking back home during the perfect summer day after getting coffee. During the epic strings bit at the end is when the caffeine buzz started kicking in, and rarely have I felt a purer sense euphoria. I've been hooked on this song ever since.
This is absolutely the best song Ronnie James Dio ever recorded, and one of the best heavy rock songs of all time.
Unquestionably. Heaven and hell is fantastic but definitely second, though I prefer temple of the king.

Hello future listeners finding this masterpiece
We have been here way before and you've been missing a lot.
I keep finding myself coming back to this song Stargazer to hear this masterpiece just one more time!!! Everytime I play it I'm reminded that it wasn't just a song I really liked at a point in time when I was all into hard rock and metal. It is timeless!!! As I get older, that incredible part at the end where Dio pours out his heart vocally for like 5 mins straight, has more of a profound effect on me, to point of getting choked up (My eyes are bleeding, and my heart is leaving hear....I see a Rainbow rising....and I'm coming home........) with those powerful vocals and all those powerful melodies. I can't even imagine how Rainbow felt after they completed the finishing touches of Stargazer in the studio. Some of them probably wondered how they could move on from there and do anything better, ever.
Man, Dio really is the best artist in the World, his songs make me so hungry, I could stop time for a cherry donut and some purple blood wine from a hermit, I could even even wear a platinum suit fly to the stars with a silver chariot, maybe I’ll meet a magician if I fly to a red star, or watch a hierophant deliver a sermon to a fool that will turn him green.

Most underrated hard rock band ever?
Yes. But that was the greatest hard rock band between 1975 and 1978. Better than Led Zep, Purple, Sabbath, Judas Priest, ......
Pink Floyd (yesssss, not the same music, I know but incredible band) and Rainbow (With Ronnie GOD James ) are my favourite bands. That was the most inventive rock bands of all times.
Could be true as bands go Rainbow don’t get as much notice as they could, why? Some of those early Rainbow song’s were so inspired, even the later commercial ones had some memorable moments.

A man that knew what the song was all about!! No 1 better than Ronnie James to do that! The song has been called a "morality tale",[6] and its lyrics are written from the standpoint of a "slave in Egyptian times", according to lyricist Ronnie James Dio. They relate the story of the Wizard, an astronomer who becomes "obsessed with the idea of flying" and enslaves a vast army of people to build him a tower from which he can take off and fly.[4]:70 The people hope for the day when their misery comes to an end, building the tower in harsh conditions ("In the heat and rain, with whips and chains; /just to see him fly, too many died"). In the end, the wizard climbs to the top of the tower but, instead of flying, falls down and dies: "no sound as he falls instead of rising. / Time standing still, then there's blood on the sand". The next song, "A Light in the Black", continues the story of the people who have lost all purpose after the Wizard's death "until they see the Light in the Dark", according to Dio. Sadly we have lost a real story teller through his Music!! This is what got me into Hard Rock and Metal (Yes just 2 genres in the 70s & 80s
The greatest song ever put to tape. Perfection!

Still my all-time favorite song. And will never forget how I found it out. It was like 14 years ago, someone gave me a compilation with Rainbow songs, no names written there, no internet at home, just my PC and the speakers. Loaded it in Winamp and went to have a nap (yes, I like sleeping while listening to rock music) just to wake up when this song started. And since then, it became my favorite.
This song has gotten me through some shitty times in my life. Can't put to words what listening to this feels like.
