    What an incredibly creative video. I love how the process from 'rumor' to 'confirmed' is shown in such a simple way. It's like looking at algebraic proofs, but news instead of letters and numbers. Even if people argue with the facts, this video shows the process of NYTimes to discover information, and in my eyes this increases their credibility. Well done, guys, your originality is excellent!

    So many of you people don't seem to understand that there's a Universal Declaration of Human Rights where in Article 14, in which it states, that everyone has a right to seek asylum. Also, to call all of these people criminals is both ignorant and demonizing and does nothing but divide and spread hatred. While we can't understand each person's individual story because there's only so many things Journalists can do, to blame the parents and call them criminals is to ignore the stories that have been told and the other scenarios and possibilities, such as escaping a country where their lives, including those of their children, are threatened. So it would make sense for them to bring their kids. These comments utterly disturb me with the lack of empathy and understanding.

      Joshua Snow If they were seeking asylum, they’d be going to a designated checkpoint on the border to announce their intentions, not trying to sneak across it. Furthermore, when seeking asylum, your supposed to go to a neighboring country to get out of immediate danger. However, many of these people come from central and South America, not a neighboring country like Mexico.

    • @azraelius_sky
      @azraelius_sky Před 5 lety +1

      You act as if seeking Asylum is as easy as "going to the right place", but your analysis lacks understanding of the system and you're misunderstanding the definition of "neighboring country". This simply refers to the country they came from. It does not necessarily mean it has to be from a country connected to our own. Even a quick google search can tell you that. "A person may request asylum in any country outside their own; there is no obligation for an individual to claim asylum in the first country they reach." Keep in mind it says, "IN ANY COUNTRY outside their own." Any. Not to mention that because of Trump's legislations, he's making it harder for people to apply for Asylum and allowing a lower amount of people to do so, causing more people to use desperate measures. Does that mean that what they are doing is "legally right"? Of course not. But it means they are not led to their actions because they are bad people or criminals.
      Keep in mind that once upon a time, The US turned away people seeking Asylum here from Nazi Germany, and after seeing what came of it, we broadened our perspective and understanding.

    Asking for asylum isn’t illegal. Illegally entering is, but asking for asylum is not. They did not deserve to be separated. Parents who are arrested at least get visitation. Only if the situation requires it. If the child is in danger. They didn't show his answers. If Trump answered in a way that looked bad, they would had accually shared his other answers. The rest of this video made no sense. Trump did not say he was having children just grabbed because there parents made them walk a thousand miles or because they may not actually belong to the parent. The conclusion people are jumping to. All he said was, if necessary. They separate the child, when the adult is wanted for sexual assault, murder or other things. They do not put children in jail. If an American is arrested and nobody is their to take the child, CPS takes them too. CPS is the one responsible to getting the child back to the parent, when appropriate and in few cases that is never.

      What would you do in their situation? You dont know really what is going on in detail on the other side to those who do. You are stuck with your family in a country that is in a state of constant gang war, a bunch of the most brutal dictators fighting eachother. Do you stay in poverty, always getting by with only scraps you gathered from the day before, without even a proper water supply, electrical grid or basic sewage system and risk the danger of you and your family being massacred, only ending a life of pain an misery? Or do you risk it and, in your perception, try to start a new life, the cost of which is only the breaking of a rule? You know you wont do anything bad anyways, you aint there to cause no trouble, the only negative effect is the breaking of a rule which, in your case, protects noone. You cant blame them for their actions, any human would do this. And even if, even if you say that they are at fault, YOU ARE PUNISHING THE KIDS IN THE WORST WAY POSSIBLE FOR THE ACTIONS OF THEIR PARENTS OVER WHICH THEY HAD NO CONTROL OVER. How do you justify that? Making the Child responsible for the actions of their parents? And im even gonna play the christian card here since most likely based on statistics you belong to that faith, jesus said "treat others like you would want to be treated". Excuse me, your hipocracy is skyhigh.
