the best thing about this show was them being so relatable and so cute as sisters, i hope that the comics adopt this concept, kara definitely needs a sister in the comics she is so lonely
The comics oddly chose to adopt Jeremiah and Eliza as her adoptive parents...but no Alex. IMHO, what really should have happened is they should have used Batgirl as Kara's Earth-buddy. They had a super-cute crossover in the comics.

@@lizardqueen7052 They dovetail perfectly because Batgirl can be the investigative force, and the stealthy and savvy one that knows and understands Earth, while Kara can be the newly-arrived alien juggernaut that means well, and can end any fight in a heartbeat, but is not a finely tuned instrument. Both should be science geniuses...which I've never understood why they made Kara kind of an idiot in the CW show. She constantly needs everything explained to her by everyone. She should be the smartest character in the entire Arrowverse (until Braniac arrives). Naive? Sure. But NO ONE should out-science her given her background. I also never liked that they had the show center around Kara 10 years after arriving on Earth and made her such a knockoff of Superman. Completely watered down what makes the character interesting.
@@brianmulholland2467 i agree, supergirl is a very interesting character with a lot of potential but she was never treated fairly in the comics by DC, they never give her the same spotlight as they give superman, i understand he is iconic and a pilar to the company, but Kara's background story is more rich and she is easily more relatable with her struggles to find her identity while grieving the life she used to have and trying to step out of the shadow of being superman's cousin
@@lizardqueen7052 Kara is a spinoff character, so her being less famous to Supes is inevitable. But when you have a spinoff as your main character, as the TV show does, you have to walk a challenging line between making the character interesting to fans of the OG character, yet different enough to not feel like a cheap knockoff. And I feel that they turned Kara into a cheap knockoff...and she SHOULDN'T BE. Treating her like 'Superman in a skirt', like CW did is just missed potential. She dresses like him, acts like him, references him, has the same job, reuses side characters, her backstory was tweaked to be more like his, has a romantic fling with an older co-worker like him, reuses storylines and villains from Superman comics...it's obvious they wanted to do a Superman show and were told 'no', so they chose to make Kara BE Superman.
Like you said, her backstory has SO much more interesting than his. His pathos at losing Krypton is muted by having never been there or known those people. He can't be used as an alien outsider to tell perspective stories about contemporary society (which is when sci fi is at it's best) like Kara can. Or COULD if she were a real newcomer like she should be. And, unlike Superman, she could be imperfect. She doesn't have to be this paragon of perfect boringness like Superman. In season 1, they flashed some moments where I though Kara was going to be portrayed as a more flawed person....but those episodes were usually just throwaway character traits that the show abandoned almost immediately like her having anger management issues. Which could have been an interesting long term struggle for her ... but instead was magically resolved in one episode. Or her willingness to lock max Lord up extrajudicially....a choice I didn't like given her coming from an advanced society, but which nonetheless might have become an interesting long term plot - Supergirl lacks the restraint of Superman - Film at 11! So many potential plot threads. Instead she learned the lesson after one speech from James and it never came up again.
I adore certain aspects of this show, like Melissa, Calista, and Chyler's chemistry on screen together. Or the humor from the first season and a half. Or some of the plot seeds I mentioned above and others. So it's complete inability to stick the landing on any of it is infuriating to me. I have a total love/hate relationship with this show.
I have rewatched these scenes so many times but at 2:30, I just now realized that Alex doesn't take her beer out of the fridge that Kara took away, but the whiskey right next to it. I'm dying in laughter. I love these two.

i miss the early days of supergirl :( i don't know what happened but it feels like after Floriana left, it's almost like the writing changed entirely, and Chyler also wasn't interested in continuing... everything has been so flat the last couple of seasons...
Many people have said that, and i think i read somewhere that it was because Ali Adler left the show or at least the producing or writing part of it, so it turned into a huge mess.The writer not giving a single fudge about what the actress had to say about their own character, the mess of the dude who got fired for harassement or something like that. It really was a huge mess that they tried to cleaned up by making it even worst. And add to that: that some part of the fandom was literally harassing the actor/actress and going beyond their limit. The supergirl fandom was an huge mess almost the shame of the arrowverse, before The flash took the candle, at some point it was almost like both of the show was in competition on who was the worst. So yeah it seems a lot like that because the BTS of supergirl was chaotic.
