Today on the show I bring you one of the most influential and iconic filmmakers in the history of cinema, three-time Oscar® winner Oliver Stone. Throughout his legendary career, Oliver Stone has served as director, writer, and producer on a variety of films, documentaries, and television movies. His films have been nominated for forty two Oscars® and have won twelve.
I hope this conversation inspires filmmakers and screenwriters to never give up. Oliver struggled for years taking jobs as a production assistant, cab driver, office assistant, and any other gig he could find to help him survive while he was chasing his dream. He wrote and wrote, meeting his goal of one to two screenplays a year, no matter what. Never give up, never surrender.
Enjoy my epic conversation with Oliver Stone.

Stones work resonated with me far, far, far more than Kubricks. After seeing JFK, I became a film editor. Been working consistently ever since! That (JFK) had a HUGE impact on me in a lot of ways. Everything about that film is great. EVERYTHING!

JFK is one of the great American films. I had seen it countless times, but watched it again last month for the first time in 15 years, and it hasn't diminished one iota. It's timeless imo.

He was the real maverick who came through to us all growing up in the mainstream 80's, amazing that he prevailed and got away with so much.

@@johnta17 Disagree, Val Kilmer was perfectly casted, but Meg Ryan was completely miscasted and the script had issues. Scorsese would’ve done better justice writing/directing it.

Fascinating book. A film director who has really lived a big life, which is reflected in his movies. It's so amazing to live in a time where one can listen and learn from such a master. Thank you for taking the time Oliver to share your experiences, both from your personal life as well as your many years in the film business. It's appreciated by so many.

10 movies in 10 years? How is that possible? An everage movie to shoot take...let's say 3 months of shooting. other 9 Monts of marketinging, incluuding cutting.
When is one able to write a new script that can be produced 12 months later?
I admit am bad at math but help me out understanding this. Is Mr. Stone a genious or just somebody who is GENIOUS!?

Also, in most cases, these weren't small-scale films. Platoon, JFK, Nixon, Salvador etc., these things were complex compared to say, the kind of films that Woody Allen used to make each year.
