I was so oblivious to any type of sexual abuse against children. Now I see why my parents never let me out of their sight.
My heart hurts for all the little kids that are not protected as they should be.

      Me too.
In kindergarten, i went to my new friends house. My parents came to pick me up. On the way home, my father said to my mother, "From now on, Jenny can come to our house to play".
Some how he knew her home was not a nice one. Her father was a deputy sheriff.
Jenny moved and i saw her once in Jr. High, and she was going down a bad path. Yes, we are lucky we had good parents!

The statement you have made is SO true. The "husband" I'm married to ACTS so religious but is a huge hypocrite. He curses, connives, schemes, pretends to be nice on the outside but ugly on the inside. He's a wolf in sheep's clothing. A bully. Greedy, heartless, has no empathy, deceitful. The ones in the congregation and on the outside thinks he's such a nice person and so spiritual. If they were a fly on the wall over the years, they would be shocked and some still wouldn't believe it. He's quick to point out faults but he has excuses for his. It’s not uncommon for young girls who’d been so profoundly betrayed/sexually abused by older male figures to later seek safety in solely female relationships. Her father had probably also been molested very young by an older male. I feel so sorry for her devoted mother who’d been so massively abused and betrayed, by not only her husband, but also by religious male authority figures. She must have felt unbearably betrayed, questioning the very religion that her entire life had been based upon. How devastating for her; plus learning that her own sons had molested her youngest daughter. The father’s secret relationship with his daughter is reprehensible, pitting her as a Judas who was also furtively betraying her own mother. I agree that there may have been other daughters molested. I think the author is very brave to relay what happened to her because keeping such dark secrets is what causes horrific abuse to continue unabated. It wasn’t her fault that she’d been horrifically harmed. It’s unforgivable for the Church to protect and foster this kind of heinous abuse; all the while unconscionably raking in billions of dollars (even tax-free) so deceitfully and furtively from the public.

Therese Ember , I don't think it was her brothers that made her lean more toward a relationship with women. I think it was the 27 yr old female teacher. She" turned her out" , for lack of a better phrase. Once she felt what it was like to be with both sexes, she realized it was women that she like the most. In case you didn't noticed she refered to the relationship/ molestation as consensual( at the time), because she enjoyed it, but years later, realized it was wrong.

There is a basic need for human beings to love and be loved. There is also basic need, for most people, to be safe and secure in love and relationships as well as financially. How we meet these needs in Avery uncertain world is what is at stake. So when people are handing secrets, it is because they found a way to have their needs met in a way that is either not condoned by society, their religions and/or their families.. how we are going to fix this is probably one of the great challenges of the world considering that most women look for a loving, financially stable and economically comfortable nest to bring children to the world and raise while most men, I think, may be looking for experiences that may be at odd with women's and even jeopardise them ... or course that is a general assessment but, from what I have experienced, witnessed and feel, may be true in many cases.

The catholic religion does not teach that people should misbehave, quite the opposite. On the opposite, some other religions encourage misbehaviour whether this be mistreatment of women, dishonesty, harming others from other communities... so it may have its fault but the teachings do not encourage doing harm .... I personally would not trust anyone knowing how things and how dangerous things can be, especially organised crimes by some in organised network, and certainly men when it comes to how they treat women and their wives.... but I get tired of the christians being targeted when some other religious do far more terrible things justified and condoned by their religions or communities...

Very meaty subject! My Dad as hypocritical but add Harvey Weinstein and a song stealer from me near one hundred hits sold to labels cheaply. For a former music producer its epic how little respect for the Congressional Records of Copyright Law ! Loaned mom out too bad she kept that secret. I'd never had bothered with this crazy duo.

A lot of people who choose to become lesbians were victims of abusive households. I suppose it would make sense, considering they never felt safe with their fathers, as a source of refuge and protection. Parents can mess up their kids... though parents really do not want to acknowledge their role in the raising of their own children, and their growth.

I don't see it as any kind of "big media" conspiracy. It's a subject that most people want to sweep under the rug, but nevertheless exists in many families. I think it's important to discuss the contents in the book as it may provide direction and healing for those who've survived similar circumstances.

Okay, so it is strange how the family is not in agreement with her account, and essentially shut down her book.
You know, Latoya Jackson did the same thing, made the talk show circuits, only to be revealed as a "fraud"! She was never sexually abused by her Father, she knew nothing about her brother Micheal and showed herself to truly be some kind of "kook".
I wonder what this family will reveal about this actress, and why they do not support her book.

Sounds like the book is very accurate. Her brother's and sister's sound like brain damaged addicts in denial. I'm Jewish and I've had a lot of bad experiences with Irish people. When I was younger and gambled a little I noticed that virtually all the people who stiffed me were Irish. A lot of it has to do with antisemitism. A lot of the Irish immigrants resented that they had to work for Jewish bosses. A lot has to do with that they drink a lot.
