    Wonderful - one of today's finest violinists playing the best concerto ever written for the instrument. Ehnes is the most well-rounded violinist of his generation, in my opinion. He possesses perfect technique and exquisite sound quality and projection (despite an unusually high left thumb and a non-Galamianesque bow hold, and, incidentally, showing, once more, that dropping the shoulder rest is not a prerequisite to playing of the highest calibre). This is a beautiful and refined rendition, and I greatly look forward to seeing Ehnes develop even further (his Ysaye, for instance, is spectacular). I am also delighted James is a fellow Canadian :).

    I have to admit that James ehnes is one of the best violinists of our generation. He's got everything, his sound is so clean, perfectly in tune and he got really good techniques and the ability to play really fast but still really clean. He's really underrated as no one talks about him enough.

      I agree! When he plays you're not listening to James Ehnes, but you're listening to the composer, he really brings out the musicality of pieces he plays.
      Some other recommendations of my favorite violinists: Roman Kim, Stefan Jackiw, Inmo Yang. In my opinion, they all have extremely proficient technique and their individual musicality really shines through.

      @@AnyoneCanCode1 I do like stefan jackiw a lot. but I think that Hilary Hahn, Janine Jansen, Augustin Hadelich, James Ehnes and Ray Chen are on an another level. They're the best out there and they are my top 5 violinists for sure

    Toujours la grande classe ,le parfait bon goût avec James Ehnes ,loin des versions frimes de trop de violonistes aujourd'hui.....et quelle parfaite intonation dans ce concerto qui ne pardonne rien au soliste .

    Thank you thank you for this gorgeous performance. With the Beethoven its so easy to get lost in the woods but James Ehnes’ sensitivity and technical clarity cut through and bring out the meaning.
    Wish he could play here in Phila!

      Wow this is a hell of piece to pull off the right amount of tenderness and technique coming from a former concertmaster, what James Ehnes does here is transcending, this is a jewel of a recording! Thank you for sharing, i often wonder how did you record something like this?

    He misses the spots too often but has a nice sound. If it doesn't bother the public, it's ok with me.

      It is not fast: he has perfect technique and his phrasing is absolutely divine. Perfect bowings. Colors, many shades of vibrato. And he knows about rubato.

      @TacticalStrike Před 10 měsíci

      I love Hahn’s attack and powerful sound I don’t see why she’s labeled as robotic and screechy so often. Her sound is very crispy which I enjoy not screechy. Ehnes is great too.

      I don’t understand why most female violinists tends to play every piece unnecessarily strong and heavy , making the sound cracked and aggressive. Like Hilary, Janine, Mutter, etc.

    • @moondough_
      @moondough_ Před 9 dny

      Bad stereotype-you should listen to Julia Fischer if you like a lighter sound. But to me Hilary Hahn’s sounds equally great to Ehnes’s.
