    From a writing standpoint, Lyza being evil makes so much sense. Riko will come flocking to her mother, ignoring any red flags and doing anything she wishes. While we, the reader will see all these red flags and just have to sit and watch as she gets her self into a terrible position. Although she has been following a character arc of her maturing, so she'll probably be mature enough to defy her mother and complete that arc.

      I feel like there has been a lot of setup for Riko losing interest in her mother. The talk she had with Prushka and the way she talked about her in recent chapters made me think that, specifically. I do, however, think that as Reg gets his memories back, he will probably start getting more attached to Lyza. I could be wrong, but I wonder if Reg will have a harder time distrusting Lyza than Riko will.

      I feel like rikos mom will be everything we expect her to be and more. Just like bondrewd told rikos and the sage that they are extremely similar. People have even questioned if that were rikos instead would she simply do the same as them.(implied that she would to some extent). But I feel like lyza is gonna be fantastical in the most lovecraftian hyper insane way with the most excited grin on her face. Think about it she's likely more selfish cunning and rawer than bondaddy

      I think it's important to remember Lyza didn't actually send the note summoning Riko. She hasn't called her or contacted her in any way - just sent her whistle and info packet up to Ozen and then onward to the surface to share her general knowledge, presumably right before taking her dive into the Maelstrom.
      Also, Riko's been called (back) to the Abyss since she was an infant - looking for her mom is really just the excuse and the impetus to go right now instead of waiting until she had more training.

      I wouldn't be surprised if the message was sent by true Riko, her resurrected soul, because she was dead infant and Lyza once said that Riko is a zombie.

    Bondrewd loving his children - Prushka included - is pretty much a known fact. Without that, sacrifice would not result in a blessing being received by the surviving person. This is what Bondrewd learned from Mitty/Nanachi situation, and this is why he literally groomed Prushka to think/feel he's a perfect parent - so that she would truly, fully love him. He knew it had to go both ways, so he worked on that too...

    Theres one possibly theory that pinged in my head about the Lyza being messed up part:
    I wonder if Lyza isnt actually waiting at the bottom, but at the layer before the final layer, in which it requires a love-type of sacrifice to pass, kinda how Mitty and Nanachi made it, letting basicly most of the "bad" of the curse onto Riko while her mother transforms into her form of a Narehate/Hollow. Or even the other way around were Riko is forced to sacrifice her own mother to gain access to the final layer of the abyss.
    That would be terrible, in a good-emotional way, just imagine the heartbreak!

  • @pippupaladin

    i think Bondrewd operates on pure pragmatism. he never shows even a hint of malice in his actions, and in situations like Nanachi euthanizing Mitty or even the main party killing one of his bodies he just congratulates them at succeeding at a goal. it was said Ziaholic made him insane, but that might just be from the human standpoint. it could be that he is just operating on an entirely different wavelength having lost the concepts of "self" and even really "death" to a large degree so his mindset is like that of a higher being that sees regular humans struggling in the muck as cute, lovable critters that need saving at all cost, and any losses along the way as long as progress is made aren't to be mourned but celebrated because forward movement is achieved.

      That reminds me of people who raise rabbits specifically for consumption. They usually still think the rabbits are cute and treat them well, but eventually they're for eating...
      I feel like it's kind of wrong to call that love, but there is a form of duty and care in that, even fondness.
      My grandpa raised rabbits for a while, iirc. My Mom told me how he could never bring himself to butchering them though. Instead, he had a friend who also raised rabbits and had the same issue. So when the time came to slaughter they traded places and killed each other's rabbits instead of their own.
      (Rural GDR had lots of people raising small livestock and owning vegetable gardens.)

    The small comment you made about Riko at the end and the alternate path that Bondrewd (and wazukyan, probably) represent, gets me thinking. Calling it now, by the end of this series, Riko will have a character shift or turning point that causes a massive change in her reception from the fandom. She is generally seen as a good character by most, but she does not get to sit at the "great" character table in most people's minds.

    Here's my theory about Sroajo's crew and specifically about the twins - I bet the fairy tale song we're following has twins in it. And I bet we're going to be using some kind of twin-sense shared-soul thing going forward, tossing one of the creepy twins into the the next layer first and seeing what happens to the remaining one, like observing the spin of two quantum linked particles separated by distance. We have one-half of the pair of twins on the surface (the other died of the birthday disease) to get information about twin-weirdness from as part of the set-up for that.

    17:41
    Something that I think is being hinted at, and the fandom is (understandably) trying to ignore, is the rather high possibility that Bonedrewd IS right about his actions being neccessarily.
    Think about it- his experiments on his children were absolutely abominations against humanity, one of, or *the* cruelest thing that someone could do¹. In particular, his experiment on Mitty and Nanachi was monstrous.
    ... Yet, had he not done so, Nanachi would not have been alive, or have settled down where they did. Nor would Mitty's soul have been disconnected enough from her body to help Riko.
    Meaning Riko would have died on the Fourth Layer, and Reg would have lost all reason to go on.
    There's also the factor of his Curse Absorbing/Nullifying Cartridges- they're a horrific abuse of his children, absolutely. ...Yet they genuinely create not just the possibility of return but the *factuality* of it.
    It is also ONLY because of his willingness to engage in acts even _he_ considers depraved, that Riko was able to pass to the Sixth Floor, let alone survive the tribulations there.
    If we consider the fact that there is an approaching calamity- one that potentially builds up yet another layer of the Abyss upon the surface each time a cycle ends, and that the Birthday Disease is almost guaranteed to be a manifestation of the Curse of the Abyss since leaving the vicinity cures it...
    Bondrewd likely was attempting to construct a method by which to bring a population into the sixth layer of the Abyss to take shelter from the Cataclysm, then using either Cartridges or manipulating those he brought with him, ascend back to the surface once it had ended. Thanks to the time dilation intensifying with each level descended, he would have likely planned on waiting out the disaster that would occur on the 0th/1st level, then ascending with those he 'saved' to the first level to escape any potential disaster that would occur on the lower levels.
    If it were truly ONLY about learning of the Abyss, he could have easily sent down one of his fragments to the Seventh layer, instead of only going to the 6th.
    Bonedrewd is a monster, but ironically his monstrosity was what has lead to the inhabitants of Orth and the Abyss having *ANY* chance of evading disaster, and/or for Riko to have even the slightest chance of fulfilling her goals.
    His cruelty turning out to have been justified in world would be completely in line with the story.

    "The Novel" is a nice epithet yet Bondrewd's a monster so let's hope Lyza's enemies gave her the epithet "the Annihilator" when really she's "chill" compared to Bondrewd(experiments on kids) and Ozen(beats kids)

  • @iesika7387
    @iesika7387 Před 5 měsíci +4

    The face we saw when Reg was taken over by a violent personality in Bondrewd's fortress was likely the same lady-shaped robot person Lyza took notes on, but I'm still holding onto the idea that the personality that took him over (because he said there were several presences and one of them in particular seized him) was Lyza. I think she's gotten to wherever he came from, a layer where souls are able to communicate directly and potentially be put in aubade robots. And I hope we find out that in the moments he woke up confused after being shocked and was trying to figure out where he was, Lyza realized he was in Bondrewd's basement, which meant Bondrewd had Riko, causing her to go full Annihilator.

    Im not sure Lyza will be bad more so shes just doing what she needs to do to achieve her goals. In my opinion clearly Riko was NOT enough for Lyza being a mom WASNT fullfilling and she left for the bottom. Just like Srajo and Bondrewd they all have their own motives. Hell even Riko does questionable stuff for her own goals.
    I think the next big thing we go into is the extra White Whistle we see in the beginning shots of all the WWs along with some ties with the animalistic traits for the Curse AND the Blessing.

    To me Bondrewd is a kind of chaotic good character to an extreme twisted extent. He is willing to sacrifice everything for what he sees as the greater good. Because he genuinely love the children this greater good is that much more important to him. More so, he believes that willingness to sacrifice everything makes him the only one able to carry out this greater good and the burden that comes with it, which is why he thinks the children should be sacrificed for his own sake. A badly good character

    • @talesofgore9424
      @talesofgore9424 Před rokem +5

      Bondrewd is actually a really good example of Chaotic Neutral, which is one of the hardest alignments to describe.
      When I think of Chaotic Good I think of Robin Hood and Goemon Ishikawa, not Bondrewd. Robin Hood and Goemon have that whole lovable trickster who does the right thing (eventually) archetype.
      Chaotic Neutral is amorality, vs. chaotic evil being immorality. Bondrewd just doesn't give a F and will get his hands dirty to chase his goals (amorality) - if he was just hurting people for the sake of hurting them or base material gain it would be immorality.
      He's not immoral, he just has a complete lack of scruples when it comes to accomplishing his goals. Sometimes the lack of morality is even worse / more dangerous than being immoral - at least you know where you stand with the immoral and can make predictions about what plays they might make - with a Chaotic Neutral character you have no idea what kind of crap they'll pull.

      @@talesofgore9424 I don't agree with you, but it probably comes up to interpretation. In his mind Bondrewd is not following his own goals, he's working for a common good: he's doing what's *necessary* not what he likes. For that reason chaotic neutral doesnt fit him well, i think he's more of a chaotic good. Alignment doesn't stop him from being mad and having a twisted worldview, it's about his motivations and his are for humanity's sake.

      My interpretation is that bondrewd isn't doing this for humanity's sake.
      It can be noticed that he never talks about doing the greater good for humanity.
      Things point more towards him preparing himself for the end of the current 2000 year cycle and his excessive curiosity in what knowledge he can get from the abyss, no matter what is sacrificed in the process

    • @alchemysaga3745
      @alchemysaga3745 Před rokem

      @mkl12g1 He talks about the new dawn of humanity, not his personal new dawn.
      Also, the Blessing of the Abyss literally *requires* genuine love. You can't trick the Abyss in that regard- even his turning himself into his own life preserving stone wasn't tricking the Abyss, just finding a loophole. More over, it's implied in many other places that the Abyss demands genuine love, or at minimum *empathy,* for any form of 'rebirth' to occur.
      Under that logic, it's likely that all of his experiments would have failed if he wasn't acting out of a genuine love for humanity. Even if it's only *his* interpretation of love.
      If nothing else, Bonedrewd is completely aware of the fact that even if he can survive things that others cannot, it doesn't matter if he's the only one left.

    • @MKL874
      @MKL874 Před rokem

      Dawn being a general concept instead of personal doesn't necessarily mean that he loves the human race itself.
      You're right about bondrewd being able to feel love, but the abyss doesn't make distinction to what kind of love it has to be...
      It just needs to be a form of love, so even a twisted one can be used as a loophole.
      He can have empathy, and still being able to hurt others for his own gains.
      It can be argued that if bondrewd truly, truly loved prushka and the other children, he wouldn't have used them as cartridges.
      If he truly loved humanity, he wouldn't have used zoaholic to possess other people's bodies as spares so that he can't die permanently.
      Even in case the humans above should die, he can't remain alone because he has his own group of followers.
      We'll see him again, so i'll wait to see where the story goes with his character before giving a final judgment
      Edit: don't forget that he has drugs that affect emotions, so there's no reason why he couldn't use that on himself to create some sort of perception of love for others.
      That's something that someone like bondrewd would do if it helped with his experiments

    Lyza is the only white whistle we see who looks untouched by the Abyss head to toe. She looks perfectly normal and human, even her hair isn't marked by the Abyss in the same way it is for Prushka and Ozen.
    I never see that being mentioned, but isn't that super weird? She looks like she skipped into this manga from a completely different story and it makes me wonder about how she made it all the way to white whistle rank without any obvious twists to her form.

    I still hold to my own theory that Lyza and Bondrewd are working together. Which also is based off my below thoughts.
    1) Bondrewd is Riko's dad. We are told he died, but we are also told that raiders willingly gave themselves to Bondrewd via the Zoaholic. I could imagine Bondrewd set out to have a kid with Lyza as it was needed to bring about the dawn.
    2) Lyza the Annihilator is on a mission to end the current 2000 year cycle. Bondrewd is on a mission to pull humanity or what he can of it, into the next 2000 years.
    3) They are working together to ultimately get to the next cycle. Lyza ends one, Bondrewd begins another.
    4) Lyza took the curse repelling relic with her for a reason. We know it was really heavy and cumbersome and there is no way she didn't plan for her baby to be brought back to the surface in it.
    5) Riko is to the annihilation as Prushka is to a white whistle. Someone who truly admires and loves you is needed to be give up their life.
    6) Reg was sent up to find his Haku. The most valuable. Not the most loved, the most cherished but the most valuable. Reg needed to have his memory erased or he would have just taken hold of Riko, used Lyza's white whistle and found a way back to the bottom. Probably just by jumping down saying "your mum is waiting" or some shit. Maybe stopping to help Faputa along the way.
