While Venice didn't fight alongside France in the Battle of Pavia, the Marquesat of Saluzzo did, and they were an Italian region in northern Italy. So them being represented by Venice would make sense.
Venice was definitely a consistently ally of France
Also Venice was allied with France during this war but didn’t partake in this specific battle, so their inclusion seems warranted.
Not soo much. They had whole different classes of troops.
@@acdragonrider not at all, Venice fought the kingdom of France on numerous occasions. In fact, Venice had one time or another to fight against all major European powers.
Just in that period:
first Italian war - 1495 - the league of Venice fought against France
war of the League of Cambrai - Venice fought against France from 1508 to 1513
After the war of the League of Cambrai, Venice took a neutral stand in the European theater of war, concentrating primarily in defending against the Ottomans (there were some exceptions due to force majeure like the naval battle against the Spanish fleet at Gibraltar in 1618).
Not to mention when fighting against its long time rival and enemy Genoa many of the troops and commanders were French, and on top of that the French were regularly allied with the Ottomans.
So no, Venice was not a traditional ally to France, Venice was a much more consistent ally to Florence, than France.
Not in the slightest dude, The Republic of Venice was an England of the mediterranean always against popery and France. France was ally of the ottomans during the war of Cyprus.
The Swiss mercenaries were quite important in the French army during the Italian wars so it’s natural they’re represented here
Hit me up I have something for you 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎊🎊🎊🎊💯💯💯❤️❤️
yea, but they look funny (somehow...)
@@mandranmagelan9430 They always do, look at the later Reisläufer: They basically went to war in the most offensively garish pimp-outfit they could find.
@@mnk9073 yea, you're right 🙂
but these (modern) code of arms on their shields are still kind of funny...

Ahhh after so many months finally MKTW 1212 AD video thanks bro I really enjoyed it.
Thanks for heart bro I have so many hearts from you

We need more Byzantine plays
Hit me up I have something for you 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎊🎊🎊🎊💯💯💯❤️❤️
Agreed, and i love how the MK1212 modders added exclusive or have units that look different for the successor states of Epirus, Latin Empire, Nicaea and Trebizond to stand out
@@OperatorMax1993 yeah , based ,but every time I see Byzantium or the rump states in action, they always lose , like if it was a historical battle ,fine , but not in every single match dude ! I can't enjoy the game if 1/10 matches has my no1 nation in it and it always loses
@@sotirisl9388 yeah man! It's like original Medieval 2 where they always lose 99% of the time! I can't a enjoy the game if 1/10 matches has my no1 nation in ot and always loses neither!
as far as i know, on Pavia there was only frenchies and Habsburg troops (both spanish and austrian ones, mainly spanish tho)
No, it was mostly French, Germanics and Italians.
Germans and spanish allies vs French and italians supported by swiss mercenaries. it was a big melting pot
there was definitely plenty of landsknechts and swiss mercenaries and I´d assume thet wouldnt be all of it.
I´ve always love the way this battle is depicted in M2TW where the Spanish instead of capturing the French king (thats what historically happened, btw), flee the field of battle just to give credit to the player for his death or capture XD
By 1525 Knights/men-at-arms no longer used shields. French infantry no longer used pavaises and spears. This type of infantry was used at Crecy and Poitiers but by Agincourt they were not used.
@@josephwalukonis9934 i suppose they use those units just to show the more poor equiped troops in the field.
I love this historical battles and the way Apollo is commentating them.
No overanalysing how players use the games mechanics correctly or incorrectly. Just focusing on the battle and how it is playing out.
Appreciate it bro!
I'm so proud of apollo. Only if he would bring back his Atila series

"The HRE is neither Holy, Roman, or an Empire" -Voltaire
In the words of a brilliant man, Voltaire can choke on a baguette!
He made an excellent point though.
I don't much care for Voltaire as a historical figure, but analyzing the late Holy Roman Empire would most likely lead one to the same conclusion
You have to be Centrilized to be an Empire
@@louisryan5815 I analyzed it and i figured it to be the best empire in medieval history
@@mlibo5868 It was
Thanks again man always such a joy to turn on one of your videos

Historical battles never get old !
My God what an intro! I haven't watched you in years but I finally remembered you and this is the first video I'm watching!
What’s the map?
Congratulations apollo for 900k subs keep up the good vids
Hit me up I have something for you 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎊🎊🎊🎊💯💯💯❤️❤️
I can’t get over how good and shiny that armor is whenever I watch videos with this mod. 1212AD is by far the one I watch the most.
In fact the so called Holy Roman Empire would at that time be named Heiliges Römisches Reich Deutscher Nation which translates to Holy Roman Empire of (the) German Nation so HRE is still correct if you just use it as a shorter nickname ♥
If this is the battle of Pavia, I'm a pink flamingo. XD
"God I hate Mondays" - Franch
21:00 I don't know who the saint on that flag is, but he looks high af. "Give peace a chance, you guys." Great commentary, Apollo, as always!
I think its Santiago as a pilgrim, patron of Spain and knights
Excited to watch my yearly apollo video
I live close to the castle of mirabello, where the battle happened, in one of the farmhouses next to the one Francis the I was held prisoner in.
Can say it doesn't/didn't look like this at all

Another great video Apollo keep it up
I love the excitment and energy pixie is showing here
Can you do a 1212 ad campaign but you probably wouldn’t finish it
Probably lol
1525 Jörg von Frundsberg a commander of the HRE with 12,000 men and 29 flag-bearers, relived Pavia an save the duchy of Milan. he won most his battles and captured the french king. he is a important figure in the history of the landsknechts next to emperor Maximilian I. unfortunately one son was killed in 1524 an his grandson in 1586 dooming his family branch to the sands of time. also the swiss mercs and the landsknechts had a intense rivalry to the point if they came across each other, they would engage in Bad war and give nor take any quarter
Actually it was not the SIRG, it was spanish Empire

I'm pretty sure Charles V was not at the battle. However, Francis I was, and he was also captured.
Totally unreal. I was there and I didn't see me running like crazy over the hills and dales back to mama.

This was unexpected

Amazing!!
''This might be what France needs here and here comes another Rally charge by the Holy Roman Empire...'' Nevermind...
There needs to be a morale debuff to having thin long lines of only 2 men deep. If you charge the center of a unit using a deep ranked regiment of men, it should auto kill all the men in the middle of the enemy formation, since their line of only 2men deep could not resist a 5 man deep charge, as well a unit should immediately route when it's center gets blown out after that.
some more 1212ad love it
There's a pretty dark manga called Wolfsmund where the Habsburg-appointed villain is facing the future Switzerland's insurgents.
That sounds cool, any more information on that manga?
@@declanjones8888 It's written by Kuji Mitsuhisa, a woman who was Kentaro Miura's assistant. Kentaro Miura created Berserk. Wolfsmund ("the wolf's maw") is a rather brutal no-magic medieval manga with a cunning and vicious antagonist whose work is to suppress rebels and enforce the Habsburgs' laws. The manga has several arcs which are rather stand-alone ish though it helps to have read the previous one to read the next ones. The arcs are a crescendo of violence (and I'd argue sadism from the villain) where "good guys" and innocents get crushed (for the most part). The reader might think that there's nothing these poor lads can do, but actually these people's struggle does get a payoff since the population gets fed up with both the Habsburgs and the villain. An uprising starts and his castle gets besieged. He can no longer send twenty guys after one schmuck in a village where everyone is too scared to resist when said village grew so resentful they'd rather fight to the death.
@@destroyerinazuma96 Man that sounds cool, I've got to read this.
Long time no see, my lord.
People Who can play this are on their prime of enjoying what a fun and beautiful game really looks like cause its not call of duty or gta or the Kids fortnite
Thats awesome
Man I would love to do some historical recreation videos with y’all
Hello, I am from Spain and I have an ancestor who was the one who met the King of France Francis on a farm. Thanks to that, and through other exploits, he was knighted. It's very funny to see a representation where he could be represented
Love the video
Gotta love a bit of blood and gore
funny we just spoke about this is history... In connection to the peasant wars and how the the payed soldiers than went back to massacre the peasants after this battle... And even made it possible for the peasant to even uprise...
Its not the holy roman empire in fact the majority of the army was spanish. We were under the rule of EMPEROR charles I of spain and V of germany son of juana la loca (daughter of spanish kings elisabeth and fernando the catholics);and Felipe el hermoso (hasburg) the names are in spanish and in the game u can see the simbols of castille leon and aragon
I've kept historical multi replays for years. Never seen them on any channel lol.
Sick nice vid

what a video, nice
So sweaty
I’m just here for the butterflies
this game looks cool af lol

No the Imperator Carlos wasn’t present.
Charles de Lannoy and Antonio de Leyva were two generals commanding the imperial forces
Bro the battle of Pavia was Spain settling it’a argument with France about how the split the kingdom of Napolis
Venice fought with the french in the League of Cognoc alongside English support and support from Pope Clement VII
*"I'm just kidding"*
He's not
I would call it High Medieval.
We need life of a soldier back 😭
Love later period tbh
You are right, Charles the 5th was not at tha battle. Something else to noet is that the swiss comander the players used died 47 years before this battle.
4:25 Focus 10/10 :D
I miss 1212ad pls post more
Still dont know about those big goofy shields at this time period.
Sitting here and waiting for the new biggus video

Guardia ducale means guard of the duke
Amazing battle!
4:30 these are indeed darts, very underrepresented in videogames and pop history despite being all over the place in sources, particularly pictorial. They're definitely not oversized here, mount and blade just got them wrong lmao
8000 Swiss mercs and 4000 Italian mercs in the French army
Fun fact : It's not a coincidence that "Francis" sounds like France. In fact, his name in French is "François" which is the old way of saying French (Français in modern French).
François le français.
