Arma never has had the best sound effects. They simulate the effects of distance on sounds quite well, but over all they're not really all that good. DICE, for all their faults, are pretty much the game industry's masters of sound design.

All the sounds in BF (since BF3 anyways) are field recorded, including tanks, explosions, whatever. It's the sound engineer that really gets the job done, though.

I own some of the rifles ( although not with automatic fire ), and the one thing I am impressed with his how relatively close the sounds are on BF. If you fire an AK or an M-14, or an AR - you know they all sound different. BF4 captured that well, so that when I fire these rifles in-game, they sound fairly close. BF strikes me as more of a simulator with a game on-top, whereas COD is just a game period.
This being said, I was also surprised how well the guns sound in Battlefield 1.

Actually, it's pretty easy to know which fun is being shot in COD thanks to the different firerates, loudness, and pitch of the weapon, even if they're around the corner

Those were rly good elements and ideas. Ghosts had the only good idea that you could drive a tank like in cod1 or cod2 or in even w@w. The rest is a typical how to make a simple story.

true. they dont sound like paintball guns. gun shots echo and have a mechanical sound due to the action on the gun itself. cod makes every gun sound like a surpressed gun in a movie, or a pellet rifle. also having been around audio techs most of my life bf4 gun sounds have infinitely more recording quality behind them.

If you think recoil = skill then you're not thinking right. Its teamwork, knowing how to flank, probably use cover, when to engage and disengage. But both bf and cod has a low skill ceiling, but I agree bf definitely has a higher skill cap but not by that much compared to other games.

Battlefield feels and sounds more realistic, when you fire a gun the recoil shakes the gun around which actually affects your aiming and also when you fire off a shot it actually feels heavy.
Meanwhile in COD ghosts you have barely any recoil because you know *Physics*

The COD sounds are kind of tinny and don't sound like they have any 'oompf' to them compared to the BF4 ones.
That's because BF4 used the closest to the real sounds the guns make, alot of BF4s guns sound the exact same as reality too

Well there's no comparison really. COD looks, feels and sounds like a retro game from the 80's that looks like it belongs on an amstrad cpc 464.
Bf4 on the other hand feels, sounds and looks amazing and really feels like a next gen game.
im not a battlefield fan boy as i have been a life long COD fan and hated all previous battlefield games until both COD ghosts and Bf4 were released,
i got ghosts as i was a cod fan and felt massively let down so thought id give Bf4 a go and have never looked back....and COD in my opinion is now history.

You forgot to put in sounds from bf4 when you are shooting inside a building. The echo is unique, especially when you shoot an rpg; the sound is amazing. Meanwhile, the guns from any cod game sounds like a fucking BB gun outside, inside, and in general just sounds what people already mentioned: like repeatedly hitting a cardboard box really fast. WOW!

In cod ghosts each pistol sounds the same. Each assault rifle sounds the same. Each smg sounds the same. And each lmg sounds the same. They literally copy and pasted sounds for each genre of weapons lol
If you ever heard a real gun before you would know that if they are the same caliber then they should should roughly the same to other guns in the same caliber.
+JIMMY DD as someone who has shot many guns this is absolutely not true. So many factors go into how a round sounds. Caliber is a big part of it, yes. However, you must also take into account barrel length, gas tube length, compensator pattern, rate of fire, bolt design, etc..
Biggest factor is "where" you fire it. If you are in a room it'll sound 100% different than in an open field.

Termutis lol you're going to instantly assume i'm a battlefield "fanboy"? I barely play battlefield kid. If i play a shooter, i play ArmA III. The sounds in that trump the sounds in all of these arcade shooters. Call of Duty's sounds are pretty bad. They're compressed, and they dont have realistic locational reverberation. What that means is no matter where you are, a small closed room, or a large open field, they'll sound exactly the same.

Swaggi Boi i've played Battlefield 3 and I love Battlefield Bad Company 1 & 2, I saw that I had to use strategy. I may be not as good at Battlefield than COD, but I'm not stupid enough to not see any strategy in BF. Only a n00b would not see/use it. Btw battlefield recoil is HORRENDOUS
why dont compare the sounds of the Apache helycopter of COD or the F35 jet, the T-50 sukhoi or the tanks sound or the quads or the snow motorbikes? oh COD dont have anything of this ???

The key difference is that BF4's guns sound like fart pellets while COD's guns sounds like toothpicks.
Battlefield 4 has a much smoother and realistic Sound, while Ghosts has a more Direct Sound
Honestly, I don't care if the sound effects are super realistic or not, I just want unique, distinctive sounds.

Not to mention the sound is basically gas being dispered out of a barrel, so of course guns would sound the same. (mostly, depending on the cliber, barrel length, etc.)
And also, the audio of the same guns are quite different depending on what audio equipment you're using, have you ever seen that video of DICE recording a PKM burst using different audio equipment? Each burst sounds drastically different.

Ghosts sounds alright, but it's the CoD's after it that will have more impressive sounds from now on. Still, for a custom engine it's still impressive especially for the time, but Battlefield 4 just sounds better.
