  • This drone is awesome! DJI just came out with a firmware update with cool new features, one of them being Active Track 360 full auto mode, where it will do circle, dronies, helix, and other modes at random intervals while continuing to track you.

      Thank you very much! I'm still going to try to avoid those small bare branches though. Other than those, this is an awesome drone! I've only had it for a couple of weeks, but I believe it's going to give me years of fun and beautiful cinematography. Take care and Happy New Year!

      @@gama45 No it doesn't but you fly in googles and you see everything up close and personal if you like. It's much more interesting, fun and immersive. My mini 3 pro is sitting on the shelf since I got the Avata 2 🙃

    Wow that ability to get out of that mess was awesome.

      Yeah, I thought about that when I saw how it came out to the road.
      I don't think collision avoidance would work quite fast enough.

      @@gama45 I'm absolutely disgusted with the new Remote ID requirement in Europe starting 1-1-24. I have a Fimi A3 and cheap L109 Pro that both are over 250 grams. And both have an excellent follow-me feature that works exactly the way it should. I can have the drone fly in view far away from any danger and it will never lose me. Yet I need to spend 240 Euro on a Remote ID module to be legal.
      But you fly your Mini 4 pro right where all the hazards are while crossing a road. I've seen other use active-track at eye-height on a busy bike trail with joggers etc. And that is supposed to be safe? The drone is going left right up down. And I don;t know about you, but I don't have eyes in the back of my head. Try staring at and operate the controller touchscreen while riding a bike! I prefer to watch where I'm going.
      And it's not that I don't like active track with the obstacle avoidance. But politicians are absolute imbeciles. They don't have the faintest clue how things work in real life. Same for DJI and many of the so called 'expert' drone fellows here on YT. Active-track is way less safe than follow-me. And perhaps even more important very annoying if you have to stop and stop and stop again on a bike.
      But OK. For walking in a forest this Mini 4 Pro is indeed a wonder of technology. Just don't get too brave!!! You can still crash the thing.
      And soon as Maven, Litchi, or Dronelink is available for the Mini 4 Pro please please buy it. You're be surprised by how user friendly follow-me is compared to active-track. Even if it mean you won't have obstacle avoidance. Use it in the open field nice and high so you can see the landscape. A good drone should have both. Why DJI keeps refusing to add follow-me as well is beyond me.

    • @gama45
      @gama45  Před 8 měsíci

      @@driewiel You have some very good points there. I have the Maven and Litchi apps already, and I use them with my DJI Mini 2, but I don't know the difference between active track & follow me. I'll have to Google that. But thank you so much for your input. It is very much appreciated. I didn't mean to laugh at you first comment because it was funny. I meant it as nervous laughter, as you are so right. Active Track should be used in places away from people and traffic.

      @@gama45 BTW. although I hate people getting neurotic about a tiny drone, a Nazi cop could easily write a couple fines after watching this video. First the drone is behind you so not VLOS. Then you are not paying attention crossing the road but watching the screen. The drone is close and almost flying onto cars. It may not hit the car, but the driver could potentially be distracted or do a panic action right into oncoming traffic.
      I watched another video and he had the Mini 3 or 4 follow his bike on a path next to a busy road. A couple times the drone avoided a tree and was right over the road at 1.50 maybe 2 meters height or something. Just by pure coincidence it missed a bus by a couple seconds. Guy didn't even notice.
      So if I were you I would fly your precious Mini 4 pro manually along a road. Just put it up nice and high so drivers won't see it. one of them may be Karen. Before you know it a police car stops and you're in trouble.
      Know what I mean? Be careful what you post on YT.

      @@gama45 Follow-me follows the GPS location of your phone or smart controller with built-in GPS. All three apps have what I call 'compas type' follow-me. The drone will fly in straight line north south east west wherever you put it. If you fly it in front of you and turn right, it will continue at your left. Turn left and it will be at your right. In all three apps you can still use the sticks to do fly-by's and other stuff. And of course steer it around trees etc.
      With follow-me you often get smoother shots with more landscape in view.
      Active-track is optical. You need good cameras for it to work and a huge amount of programming to recognize the subject. this is why you won't find it on cheap drones. Some try like for example C-Fly Mini and Potensic Atom thinking they should be a DJI wannabee. But without obstacle avoidance it's asking for trouble.
      Unfortunately very few drone have the follow-me programmed correctly. I'm still looking for a nice cheap drone that follows as my 350 grams L109 Pro with poor quality gimbal and fish-eye camera. I don't need 4k 60 fps or a perfectly straight horizon. In fact I prefer EIS only so it's easier to carry in my pocket or bike bag.
      More important for me is I can put it in the air fast as possible. If it takes minutes to wait for satellites I won't bother and ride on. A good optical flow could be great. Lie my Tello. But the Tello doesn't have an SD card and using the phone with Bluetooth controller is too much work for a quick shot. When you are a hiker or biker the faster you can launch a drone, the more shots you will have to pick out the best. I may buy a use Mavic Mini 1 to see how quick I can launch it.

    My mini 4 pro unfortunately crashed into a tree. I was doing the same thing, active track. It didn’t see the smaller branches of the trees. It was also a gloomy day. It seems to need lots of light to work properly. I have sent it to Dji. Luckily had Dji care refresh.

    • @gama45
      @gama45  Před 5 měsíci +1

      Sorry to hear about your crash, but glad to hear you had DJI Care Refresh. I have used them several times with my Mini 2. My Mini 4 has crashed into those small branches several times, but with me in control. They just jump out there so fast, and too small for the obstacle avoidance to see. But up until yesterday, it had never crashed on auto flight. But yesterday, it went into lost connection auto RTH, and it turned around right behind a small dead branch. Fortunately, it had just started to return at about 4-5 feet off the ground with soft leaves to land on, so no damage.
