Theres something so creepy about a gigantic great white shark just sitting in the water sitting in one spot just staring at you. Imagine falling off your surf board and when you surface you just see a 20’ great white sitting there staring at you. The anticipation of that thing just darting in at any moment would be too much to handle. I would probable pass out from shock and never be seen again.

So Wendy figures a shark hit her board, doesn't tell Anne as not to scare her, but stays out in the ocean longer with her friend in the dark about it...? I'd be upset when I found out later lol. That first hit without injury, to me, is a courtesy warning. But then again I'm not a surfer.

They are very intelligent yes but like most species that have advanced intellect they can be quite sadistic and exhibit cruelty for no other reason then boredom or murder/ sexual assault for their own amusement. I don think they intentionally save humans either I just think they really hate sharks lol alot of these stories about dolphins savin humans are grossly exaggerated or outright lies . If they do happen to chase away sharks , it's likely they didn't even notice humans in the vicinity. They aren't anything like Flipper. That dolphin story is some divine intervention level stuff! I read a book about survivors of Suicide attempts. One guy jumped off the Golden Gate Bridge trying to kill himself. That water is infested with Great white sharks as well. He said he put his hands on the railing, jumped, and the second he let go…he thought “Damn, I made a mistake. I want to live.” He hit the water feet first, shattered his legs, and went down deep under the surface. He said he couldn’t tell which way was up, but just started swimming. He finally made it to the surface, while he was floating, something hit his leg. He said it was a dolphin had swam up and was actually holding him above water because his limbs were broken and he couldn’t swim. It held him up until a rescue boat came and pulled him out. Remarkable and miraculous, period.

The first video I saw of yours I felt like you were judging the sharks and their behavior to harshly. As I watched more videos and learned about more cases, you are 100% correct. A lot of these are not mistaken identity or “whoopsies.” It’s like how a shark bites someone, fills the water with blood and chaos, other people arrive to try and help, but the shark can still detect which person they just attacked and go attack them again. This proves that these sharks can differentiate between humans, so I feel like they can quite easily smell and see we are not seals or fish. Have you all ever smelled a seal? Yea, you can smell them from 100 yards away so these sharks can smell the difference for sure.

Thanks Hal……just not sure I always agree with your attempt or not attempt to predate? Especially with some of the great white attacks. If a great white hits u as a surfer or even a swimmer it could most definitely be an attempt to predate but it depends on the results of the first attack. Many hit a bony area, less blood and the surfer can get to shore……. But if the victim were to be alone and go into shock or start to drown who’s to say that great white isn’t just there waiting for this to finish their meal? This is how they attack seals……often leaving the seal for several minutes after their first hit. Just another theory. I think most attacks are an attempt to predate.

Love your channel Hal! I’ve been watching for a while now. I don’t comment much but I certainly watch every episode and read through the comments. I’ve learned a great deal from them. Certainly appreciate the effort and research you put into each episode. Two things I wanted to mention regarding this episode…
    1) Regarding the Mako and the 12 bites… I would absolutely include that as an attempt to predate. I think if it’s continuously returning to bite you, I personally interpret that behavior as it’s trying to finish you off/consume you. Makos would be one of the last sharks I’d want to run into. I think if she wasn’t rescued that Mako would’ve continued to take bites out of her… I have to assume that with it only being 7 feet, the bites aren’t gonna be as damaging as the larger 3 sharks that you typically cover, which has to be part of how one could survive 12 bites. But again, I still consider that an attempt to predate. Glad she survived!
    2) The other thing I wanted to mention was in reference to the dolphins helping the victim. I would love to hear more stories involving dolphins if you can. I think there’s a lot of misinformation out there about dolphins and sharks. I remember always hearing if you see dolphins you’re probably safe from sharks (in other words, they wouldn’t be hanging around because of the dolphins presence)…. But, I later heard that’s false and probably the opposite is actually true (that seeing dolphins probably is more indicative of a sharks presence). Either way, I’d love to have some stats on attacks where dolphins were present, just to get an understanding as to whether sharks attack/behave differently with dolphins present (for example, do they attack humans less if dolphins are near by?). So yeah, any other cases involving dolphins would be interesting. Thanks Hal and congrats on the success and your clothing line.

    Hello Hal
Thanks for all the gripping shark stories you bring us.
I'm always careful never to listen in too close to bedtime as I know how vivid my dreams can be and I don't want to meet any of the sharks you describe when I close my eyes. Haha I bet you have other viewers just like me.
In one of today's tales I can't get over the lady who's surf board is lifted up out of the water, but doesn't want to scare her friend so claims it was a seal then *20* *minutes* *later* they are still in the water !
    How ?
Just how is it possible to not have rocketed out of the water and warn everyone too that there's a shark on the prowl ?
I guess I'll never understand the way some minds work.

      Bump from underneath, no biggy?
20 mn later, 'Oh look Wendy, a whale!'
'I'm cold Anne, are you cold, lets go in?'
This is and odd one. The (whale) comfortable next to them, eavesdropping for a spell?
Wow, mabye just a bit too much blue sky between the ears, all three of them.

So now we have Fight, Flight, Freeze or Just Carry On Til One Of Us Gets Chilly.
That works for me says the shark, peeling off it's whale suit,
I can't imagine having a friend who pretends nothing's wrong when you're both in mortal danger.

I wonder how the sharks handled Hurricane Ian? My mother and step dad have a home in Englewood FL (about 30 minutes north of where the hurricane made land) and they said the sea took over EVERYTHING! I've been listening for reports of all the sharks, rays, dolphins, manatees.... that inhabite all the inter coastal waterways. Wondering if they were washed into the city. Maybe trapped in ditches or pools? Haven't heard anything yet. Wonder if they all knew it was coming and headed to deeper water?

Ive often wondered about that too, and figure the ocean critters can likely sense the magnitude of the storms and must either leave the entire area or go out to the depths to avoid it.

Once the lines were cast , the school of yellowfin suddenly surfaced, obviously panicked.
