- A profile of silversmith Ubaldo Vitali, winner of a 2011 MacArthur Genius Award. A fourth generation silversmith from Rome, Vitali moved to the US in 1967. He's been producing his own art in a traditional studio in Maplewood, NJ, while also restoring the work of others with an art historian's attention to detail -- his clients range from the Metropolitan Museum of Art to the Vatican.
Produced by Christopher Benincasa for State of the Arts.
What a wonderful video! I’ve been working with silver for about a year, I love it and seeing this man and what he does was very inspiring.
What a wonderful presentation. I have been "tinkering" with silver for nearly 20 years. Very little mentoring included. Left to my own devices of limits, it is amazing grace that ever produces any item for sale. I am always humbled when the silver bends to my will in a pleasing way to the eye. Not my eye, for I never see perfection. Perfection is a goal, not a destination. That is of course unless you are Ubaldo. Yet, it is most certain he would disagree with me as he is humble and understands growth is constant. May he live forever.
Larry Lund , Well said sir! I have learned more humbleness in the last 7min than the last year...
I guess Im asking randomly but does anyone know of a way to get back into an instagram account?
I stupidly forgot the account password. I appreciate any tricks you can give me.
What a fascinating video. I wish it were an hour or two. Thanks for posting!
I grew up in Maplewood for the first 20 years of my life...would love to learn from him....
