why was the bass drum part written all on one drum? it should have been 5 basses going up and down the entire song.

why are the alto saxes and horns on the same part? One is in F and the other in Eb

They probably condensed the conductor's score but the actual parts have their individual sheet music. Like some scores have 1st, 2nd, and 3rd parts on the same line in the conductor's score but the sheet music had it separately, if that makes sense.
horns and altos have the same part for most marching band songs
