  • I explain some of the basic measurements required to check to see if your cello will fill into the case you are considering buying. I show various cello designs and some common problems that come up when shopping for a case. What fit problems to be aware of and what to avoid.
You can find a handy measurements sheet on www.LindaWestCellos.com on any of the case pages.

When I was in middle school, we didn’t have enough cello cases that were full size, so I used a 3/4 cello case, closed with foldback clips. That was one of the only times I regretted being so tall!

I thought you were going to show me how to measure the case, my buyer wants a case that is good for a full cello 4/4 and I think I have one but I’m not sure and we are in different states?

Hi Linda, I just ordered a Gewa Air, where the upper bound is reported either 36 cm or 355 mm. My cello seems to be 355 mm. I am a bit worried it wouldn't fit. I checkedmultiple options, but since my total length is 129 cm, I need the 130 long case that Gewa can offer. Bam models seem tobeonly 124 long. Any thoughts?
The case should arrive in the next days, but my instrment is abroad, so I would travel the empty case by train to the instrument. Therefore after trying and realizing it isnot a good fit, I won't be able to return the case as it would be already used.

Is there a GEWA Air near you that you can check fit? FYI our dimensions are usually conservative.

It depends on which Gofriller pattern and final dimensions. Usually the lower bout is wider and the lower corners are positioned higher. I would need their width as well as the lower bout width and how high the corners are up from the cellos bottom. If the lower bout corners are not too long it may not. So I can’t say definitively yes or no without your cello dimensions. I’d be happy to help . You can chat with me at www.lindawestcellos.com
