Ever since I left my circle of friends who would constantly berate me with negativity, I have experienced such a increased quality of life. Got a great job in my career path and met wonderful and genuine people from there. Honestly, if you hang out with people who treat you like crap...just cut ties with them and find new friends.
So true, I had the worst time ever with my 3 years best friend in school last year, she used to make fun of me as hard as she can,EVERY SINGLE DAY she used to throw 2 or 3 jokes at me and embaress me. I had confidence issues but then got over and she came and destroyed it again. I don't know if I'll ever gain the confidence and courage I had but I hope I will just as u did

So true! I very recently left my toxic friends who assumed everything about me, spread rumors about me, and called me toxic mean and rude. After I left I started to focas on me and who I was as a person and I feel so much better
What if those people are colleagues? I m a graphic designer who ended up being a freelance cause I don't find the right people to work with.
In my own experience i have come to see that creativity is the ability to find "a" solution for a problem instead of "the" solution.
Most of us do this all the time without noticing, but we do not consider it creativity because misconcepcions and prejuices.
I used to feel blocked when had to be creative and consider myself an analytic person.
I read a lot about it, to learn on how to unblock myself. It was helpful but not much.
The big change happens when I started to pay attention how i felt the moment i had to be creative. I notice sometimes i got angry or anxious because i was trying to find "the right solution" instead of the solution that fits me . So instead of avoiding the task i just tried to do my best and it worked most of the time.
I did this again and again and again and became a practice. Now, i do not call this creativity, the kind of Picasso's creativity ( i do not think that can be taught), it is just kind of a skill.
I can totally relate to that.. Always refreshing to learn we're not alone in this.

it's funny you say that the kind of picasso creativity cannot be thougt. There's another ted talk in which they talk about the quantity of his works and how that relates to him making great art. It's also in a way thaught :)

Throughout my career my biggest obstacle has been people discouraging me from my ideas. You have to ignore them in order to succeed at anything.

Inspirational, when I was younger, I used to draw mangas, but, everyone around me used to say that being a manga designer would be a good choice as a profession, it wouldn't give me enough money to survive, unhappily I believed it and because of that I never developed my drawing skills, I really regret of having listen to them, as I've learned people, Never let the others say what you have to do, if you accept their opinions, you will end up like me, follow your heart, everything else is bullshit.
But you learned something valuable Ronnyere...
You observed your error of allowing others to decide your path for you and now you'll always be one-step-ahead in life. So, surely you see that you have nothing to regret?
Try hard (and smart) to accept that part of your past - regret only sucks on energy like a leech.
So free your mind and be happy that you learned this now instead of later - you're human, we often make mistakes in order to learn... and you have certainly done that ;) Well done. Stop by my channel sometime?

reading this really made me identify myself with your history. i aways loved to draw but people never seem to recognize this on me, even my parents who were so supportive for me in the beginning told me to work on something else when they realize that i actually wanted to do it for a living. despite what they said i got in art school 2 years ago, and even if im still here i aways wonder if i made the right choice or if im just wasting my time. Thank you for sharing your story, really, it renewed my confidence

I have the opposite story. When I was younger I used to like drawing, then I got interested in graphic design. All that time I was encouraged by my mother, and noone said anything about that people don't appreciate design and that it's not a low paying job. Well .... few years later I'm bitter because "I do the thing Im passionate about" and can't provide enough money for my family to live a good life. If only somebody said to me to invest my time in programming when I was younger...

This talk is great. It brought a tear to my eye. I remember being little and getting tired of being scared of the dark. So I directly challenged it and went for a walk at night by myself. I faced my fear directly and came out of it more free than ever.
The video left me in tears, the story telling was super told. We've all been told at different times, that we're not good enough, not creative enough, there's been different label at different times, change comes when you begin to see yourself outside of those labels and you take baby steps to changing the status quo
This is a wonderful speaking and it helps me a lot with my confidence while doing art. Whenever I was working on a project and my friends start to give out comments like hey that looks funny, or when I see other people work. I start to feel bad about my work and sometimes I just quit. I start to think that I'm one of those non-creative people. And I'm afraid that people might judge me so I stop sharing my ideas.
Now I know that, what I did was wrong and this speech give me the motivation to be confidence about my ideas and work. And not to be afraid of being creative

I was more distracted by the fact that he looks so, so much like the teacher in high school who mocked my writing in front of class and shattered my confidence, which I am still trying to pick up the pieces of. Lol.
I just thought it was funny how he mentioned teachers discouraging students and the first thing I thought about, when I saw him, before he opened his mouth, was that teacher.

My problem is always confidence. In minor everything, although I prepare detailed part and practice carefully, whenever I stand before the audience the tension and fear ruined me. But, after watching this video, I realize the reason why I have lost my nerve. And I feel that I can get creative confidence, bury myself in important things and come up with interesting idea. thank you so much!

Another inspiring ted talk! I fully believe everyone is born creative. It's lifes circumstances and the people we encounter that either quell or nurture that creativity.
I studied for my exam and pretty good on it. I understood the subject and did some examples which i did well.
But i failed.
I am not extremely sad but I've been thinking a lot and i came to conclusion that i Failed not because i am not smart enough or not mentally-ready but because I'm not Creative at seeing things. It gives me a new experience and i am thankful for my Failure. I am creative and i believe I'll make it next year.

@@InefficientCustard its obviously not their first language man .... why do you have to be like this on a video that literally states how detrimental external negativity can be to people
even though its kind of necessary for college, this is why i hate grades in school! im a good student and i get good grades, but i think they limit us. they tell us to think outside the box, but then say we're wrong in the way we're thinking. especially in language arts. I get the corrections on grammar, but what about the content? its like a picture where there is a line of students thinking about different things (and the thoughts are in the shape of a cloud like we'd draw as kids) and the teacher was going down the line of kids, one by one and cutting those thought clouds into squares. i really liked this ted talks btw.
Go tell your teacher to be Optimistic and Motivate the students to think more and more and it will automatically lead to the creativity part being emanated out of all of you!!!!
I have the same thought as you are having right now and I also feel the same for the GRADE system.It should be abolished and thrown to dustbin!!!!!!
I hated school in general because of this.
My elementary school teacher actually brought me onto the creative path, just because she wrote "You're especially good at drawing" on my graduation paper.

This is on point. Feel very lucky to have had so much encouragement and freedom growing up to let me push my creativity enough to try building awesome stuff.
I have recently been studying the most amazing material on the mind and my creativity has shot through the roof. It's been an amazing journey and it's fascinating to realize that we ALL have the same creative potential if we simply find the same tools and opportunities to tap into it.
Without hearing this talk I very much doubt Id have found the confidence in going forward as to creative side, like urself I had a rare brain tumour which shattered my confidence. Now Im able to start a fresh, all of the limiting beliefs I had installed throughout the years have been wiped. Rather than replacing them with newer not so nice thought ones, Im able to start a new journey of exploration 🥳🥰🤩 Thank you so so much x 👏💐
Touching the snake is not only a wonderful analogy, it says a lot at how the self has to stop reacting and learn and be enabled to recognise. Self efficacy is in understanding ones true nature and calling. Our brain tends to avoid displeasure and in fear of failure choose a path which is not aligned with the self. Observing objectively and removing the veil of feelings is the key. Thanks for this clarity

This is great. I agree wholeheartedly with the notions of creative mistrust. I consider myself a creative person, however there are so many out there who have never fully tapped into their potential because they perceive themselves to be less creative people than others. If your gospel is that of instilling creative confidence back into others please continue spreading the word. The world needs at this time, more than ever, a creative revolution that will spark something wonderful. What ever this may be, I am not sure. All I know is I support your message.
Well said Christopher. Creativity knows no limits - too many people around the world operate from a limited mind-set and this is a huge cause of the imbalance that's rife today.
Maybe creativity will become contagious-like, one day... as soon as more people subscribe to the idea that creativity exists inside us all - just needs to be "unlocked/tapped."

Creative confidence is really the need of the our. I see its importance in Indian corporate life where people are discouraged to voice their opinions & try new simple stuff over fear of challenging status quo..

Very inspirational. I loved the illustration of the breakthrough design of the MRI machine to make it more entertaining for kids. People are naturally creative. Yes, you can do what you set out to do.

Speech Given by David Kelly was insightful. He said people are all naturally creative and we should not opt out because of fears of being judged by other . Best part of speech was how creativity helped transform a terrifying experience for kids who needed an MRI scan into an experience leaving kids wanting more. There is a great lesson for how to bring out your own creativity.
That's an interesting word.. creative confidence! I had a similar experience with it back in younger grades as well.
This guy was clear to a point that he used less words than the one he needed. Completly agree that we should all built our creativity and helps others been as creative as they could!!!
The example he made with the MRI machine redesigned into a pirate ship adventure is amazing. I loved it so much that i told my girlfriend to come look at this. And while i explained it to her (she didn't watch all of the video before) i broke into tears because the motivation behind this designprocess moved me so much. You have to know that i studied design. And this is probably one of the best examples of design i have seen in the last four years. It just works in every aspect.

+alotan2acs It was thoroughly implied through his anecdotes, but let me rephrase: be emphatic, compassionate and selfless so creative confidence and courage can flow upon the self. The "why" is with the "how."

Everyone is gifted in different fields. Look for your bliss, and the God must prepare the doors for you where there used to be walls. What the speaker had said did touch my heart and inspired me a lot.
Yes, I agree with you Sir. Thoughts are creative. Words are creative. Actions are cre- ative. These are the three creative forces of the universe. Master these and the world belongs to you.
Wonderful speech. There still seem to be too many people out there who mystify creativity and believe it's a have or have-not innate gift. Why not engage in the creative process and allow yourself to get surprised by the results? Could certain video games stimulate creativity?
I feel that i can relate to the way he describes a person who is discouraged because of judgement. I feel rejected most of the time with my personality, because when i feel that any attempt i make (which is like a milestone) to open myself up to people or the world; most react in a discouraging manner towards the way I
present myself(I know they think I'm wierd) and often give me disdainful looks because they are obviously not comfortable around me and it becomes into this awkward situation. This video helped me in understanding as to what I am doing by closing myself off
I've had a similar experiences all my life, but the more I set small goals and accomplish them, the more I realize that I truly like myself and it doesn't matter so much what other people think of me. Sure, it hurts when someone calls me weird because it's kinda like them saying they're slightly disgusted by me. But that actually has a lot to do with them and where they're at -- and I try to remind myself that it's only through "weird" people also becoming strong people that the world really changes. And it changes one person at a time.

Thanks for the speech. It's so inspirational. The technique of helping people regain their creativity can be applied broadly it's like helping people reprogram their mind.
Remove all the blocks out of their mind and have a free soul. That is the ultimate life style I've bee chasing.

wow, I had this really low self confidence in my artwork that i had quit for 5 months. This regained my self assurance that I can do more as an artist.

“Turning Fear into Familiarity”! So simple yet so cathartic.
This happened to me in 3rd grade too.
I did a drawing of a Picasso tribute piece.
My art teacher saw it and told me "Don't Quit your day job!"
Then, I walked past the classroom
on the way to gym class.
Him and a bunch of other teachers were standing around my drawing.
My art teacher said "I have been doing art for over 20 fucking years! This kid is 9 and already he draws like Picasso."
He never told me to my face.
So, I never thought much of it.
Then, in college, my Art Mentor asked me if I was familiar with Pablo Picasso's work.
He felt I drew like him.
College was awesome!
I found my true artistic voice.
Thanks to My art mentor and several other teachers.
I now have creative confidence!

The thing I think I really like about this guy is that he knows some people are not "talented" but also knows you shouldn't limit people to what YOU think they can do.
Sometimes, someone who may seem to be horrible at something just needs to be given the chance to explore their options and find what makes them happy.
Hey, who knows, some of the worlds most creative and amazing poets might never of been able to draw as much as a stick figure.
Probably one of the most inspiring talk I've ever seen.
Thank you for making me aware that as an educator, i should be cautious to make negative judgements about any student's effort. Also, It is always at one's crossroads that one has to make a choice and thus it goes to prove that an unexamined life if not worth living and after examining it one should be creative whatever one decides to do.

Yay ! David Kelly starts off a TED talk with a mind map !
First of all, I like your talk, I am not a native English speaker, but I can totally undertand you, the speed is just fine. Second of all, I believe the points David wants to convey is to overcome your phobia, then you can got your confidence; confidence is the way led to creative thinking, learn to igonre others' judgement, just stick with what you believe is right. You will never know how creative you and your team can be. Snake touching experiment, MRI machine re-design both are examples of how to treat your fear, how to deal with your fear. Self-experience is to tell us the motivation, the purpose of his speech. What I get from your speech is to conquer your phobia by guided mastery, build self-efficacy, confidence becomes part of you naturally. With self-efficacy, stick with what you believe is right, never fall into the habit of stranglling your creative thoughts because of others' judgement, and you will be creative.
This guy’s like straight out of the 70’s, it’s all slower, more simple, but more honest. This is the world l knew, lm an 80’s kid.

Everyone is creative are made in the image creator. Artistry and creativity are not the same thing amd artistry is not the only type of creativity. We are all creatives.

I don't know if I had zoned out when something relevant to the statement was said, but when he said reach out and touch the snake, my immature creativity took over and my creative confidence went through the roof.

When it got to that part where he said the little girl asked her mom if she could come back tomorrow, I burst into tears.
I know this feeling. It's like living with a backache every day of your life thinking that it's a normal sensation that all living humans deal with and finding out that there is a species of humans out there who do not have to live with that backache because they were intelligent enough to find a solution to it forever. Do you know how cheated and unfortunate you will feel about yourself?? That is exactly what I am feeling right now.
A more intelligent human being who recognizes that feeling and created a solution out of it. But I had resigned to the assumption that there would be no solution to it. My current environment, physical and social reinforce that assumption in me that I will never get it better than I already have it.
But it's a lie. There is a solution, you only have to be intelligent enough and innovative enough to find it.
I wish I were slightly more intelligent than I am. Perhaps lucky enough to be born Caucasoid. It is what it is.
I had a similar childhood experience relating to creativity. Up through middle school I considred myself a VERY left brained person, very analytical. Now that I'm in high school, I act, write, and draw. I'm still a left brain, I just enjoy endulging my right brain :)
this helps me because im a writer I always am afraid about my book I write will be bad
