We’ve got a nice little present here from JZ Microphones. They sent us a Vintage 67 microphone to try and they have rather generously given us one to give away!

This is a 1 inch cardioid condenser and it’s got this thing that they’re calling “Golden Drop Technology.” What that is is that the capsule itself is super super thin making it ultra sensitive. It’s got extremely low “self-noise” which is really good. This is especially good when you’re dealing with acoustic instruments such as acoustic guitars that are very dynamic, you’ve got to boost the signal quite dramatically on the quiet finger picking parts as opposed to the loud strumming! The last thing I want to do is compress that and turn up the quiet parts and that the “SSSS” sound! (Imagine air leaking out of a balloon)
This mic would be very very good on on voices that need a little bit more presence and a little bit more low end! - It’s a great mic for a voice like David’s! (The Workday Release!) and for female vocalists as well!
The best thing about this episode is you can enter to win a Vintage 67 (Scroll up to enter!)

Produce Like A Pro is a website which features great tips to help the beginning recordist make incredible sounding home recordings on a budget.
How would you use this mic in YOUR studio? Let me know below! (AND make sure to enter to win!)
I would use it as a room mic.
Mainly on female vocals I guess. But I would also give it a try on anything else. Very unique design. I'm not even sure, if I really like the look, although the color is nice and it looks expensive.
that will be my first mic on vocals and on accoustic guitar. I heard it personally at Thomman shop (germany), I couldn't afford it that time, but I was shocked, how big and open, but gentle this beauty sounds.
I would be interested in OverHead application for drums or even a small to medium string ensemble as a stereo pair .
Not sure I'd have a use for this as there seems to be better options for recording amps and cabs and my voice is too deep... maybe as a room mic. How would it sound on a kick?
I'd leave it in a drawer and when people come to record say "You know, I never pull out this mic for the other bands, but I think I'll do it just for you guys" then proceed to do this for every session.
I am from Latvia and very proud of these guys! Amazing! Did you know Sonarworks and Game Changer Audio are also from Latvia? Amazing inventions happening here :D
He probably does, at least for Sonarworks, since Lee was in one of his videos.
Yes! I do know Sonarworks are from there! Great company!!
Yes, you are correct Kaspars!!
@@Producelikeapro Couldn't agree more, can't live without their software, great people there as well!
Some GREAT guitar playing, Warren.
Just got the V-67 in. Tried it out this weekend. It's very, very nice piece of kit. You can get a very crisp, clear, present, well balanced, pro sounding vocal with the JZ Microphone V-678 at a fraction of the cost of any of the other big names in the business. I'm very happy with this purchase!
I think it suited David's voice really well. I work with some singers that definitely would sound great with that gentle low mid push. Warm but still transparent. Thanks for the demo Warren!
I agree! It was perfect for his voice and also it would be amazing on a girl vocal! Just to have this in a versatile mic collection is quite amazing indeed!!
I have one of these mics and I love what it does for my voice. I don't have the most powerful voice but what I notice on this is that it smoothes out my tone. I don't need any eq to speak of to make it fit into a heavy rock track. I don't notice an increased bass or treble but it does take the fog horn out of my tone. Also I did a live broadcast (2 acoustic guitars and vocals) with the v67 as my only mic and it sounded absolutely brilliant with all the sources being about 18-24" away. Previous to this I used a U87 (on the record you mixed) but I have to say I like this mic better for my voice.
I'm a Male singer with a high voice that does a lot of falsetto. I have been using a Blue Yeti in my rock productions until now and I'm finally moving to a new place where I can sing so much more often and this mic would be a great place to start off.
Sounds like a great match Sean! Good luck!
My partner, Nathan Phillips, owns one here at Leftfield Recordings and this mic is one of my favorites we have at the studio. I often use it as a room Mic but it works well for a lot of sources. Excellent video as ALWAYS, Warren.
I dig the tune. Great vocals and tasty guitar licks.
Thank you!!
Wow this sounds so clean!
Indeed Navid!
Acoustic Guitars and Vocals for sure.
🤘🤘
Just just just just beautiful Botton end. And the song is amazing, the guitar, vocals everything!!!! Beautiful!!!!!
Oh yes! JZ mics all sound great! Eastern Europe (the baltics in that case ) have no forgotten craftmanship !
I just got one of these in today, and so far I really love it. I’ve followed the rather crazy history of this company. They used to be named Violet mics, then there was a shake-up where the mic designer and founder left to start his own company (JZ), then he passed away. So I was taking a risk but I always wanted one of the Violets. Still testing but what I can say is that A.) there’s no noise issues at all. I have a wireless printer at home that interferes with everything so I keep it off. Turned it on to test.. dead quiet mic!. B.) it’s got a very natural feeling and sounding response. Doesn’t seem hyped up anywhere. Top end is smooth but very present. Not dark, just balanced well. Bass is round and warm, and mids feel nicely detailed. Sounded fantastic on my acoustics. Think it will serve me well :)
Brent Handy, CTS indeed! I don’t know if you’ve tried any of the recent JZs, but my v67 is impeccable. I know at one point years ago a few people had some issues with noise but my experience this year was fantastic (dead quiet, can take a ton of SPL). I can’t see me *ever* using another mic for acoustic guitar. It’s heavenly. Problem is I want more of them 😂
Very nice! I'd use it on everything!
Marvellous Chris!!
Wicked guitar part and performance. So tasty I no longer need lunch.
Thanks ever so much Jon!!
Great video as always! It looks great and sounds great. Love the playing and singing. You guys are very gifted. Thanks always for reviewing gear that's not in the local stores.
Thank you very much for the kind words Michael!
@@Producelikeapro thank you very much. Your teaching is a great help to those of us who are just learning to mix and produce. Since I started watching about a year ago my mixes have gotten much better and your passion is contagious. I have fallen in love with music all over again. Thanks a million.
Wow, the low end on that is blowing me away! Always been told that the thinner diaphragms will typically lack that 'cause they must be cheaper, but this has blown that out of the water for me! Definitely entering the giveaway
WOOOOW that mic sounds amaaaaazing.
Looks as beautiful as it sounds!
Acoustic guitar all day! Also maybe as a third mic pulled back on electric guitar with a 57 and a ribbon on the cone. That might be fun.
Wicked mic!! Wicked game mic ;)
Nailed it
I might say, that mic was "ideal" for his voice. Really nice
World was on fire. Noone could save me but you.
What a wicked tHong to do .
Mega Chris Isaak vibes on the demo track. Love it!
Because it's the exact same chords and tempo?
@@TonysMusicChannel I'm unsure why you framed that as a question.
It is a pretty good mic, very clean and full, I like it!👍 I would use it for vocals))
Best of luck Denis!
@@Producelikeapro Thank you =)
very nice guitar solo
I love all of the random giveaways of cool gear. Fingers are crossed as this would be a wonderful 60th birthday present. Ha ha ha
Great Song. 👍🏼
Thanks ever so much
@@Producelikeapro You are welcome. Great review as always. Best regards.
would use it as a room mic for my dwrums
Love the tone and golden sound .. I'd use for ac guitar, voice and I think it would give my banjo a depth I can't seem to get easily.
Awesome!!! Thank you Warren!!
A great video and another amazing giveaway... Thank You Warren and JZ
Thanks ever so m much Shawn! Glad to be able to help!!
Perfect match of the mic housing and your shirt Warren, haha :-) Great song, love it! Thanks a lot!
cool track well done fellas
Sounds really good on the vocals for me, another great video and great little song too....thanks
lI ove the design and I like how it sounds, thanks for the multitracks again!!!
oops, I meant: "I love" hahahaha
You can only choose one, TLM 103 or JZ V67 what would you pick?
Love you Warren. Nice Work. :D
Thanks Josuezt!
Hello Warren!!! From Russia with love!
Hello Denis!
Assuming the mic is good (listening on an iPad) but the music is terrific!
haha! Thanks Michael! - The mic is absolutely wonderful!
Nice tasteful playing & arrangement of the song! 😎👍
I like it. I can tell that you used the mic on everything.... which I actually would not do in this circumstance... but obviously its for that reason haha. Its response seems to make all the instruments have a similar color, where I would maybe have only used this mic on the things I wanted to sound "big", as this is a big sounding mic. Great demo
Sounds fantastic! -James
Sounds like it might be useful for recording acoustic folk instruments--guitar, mando, banjo. Doubt it would work for the majority of what I record though (strings, grand piano)
My maternal grandfather was born in Latvia, so I'm definitely entering to win this one. Plus, you've got David singing in the demo, and my paternal grandfather was named David, so I'm liking my chances. 😎
I notice David tracks vocals with one naked ear. How common is that among pro singers? I find that I can't sing in tune unless I've got one ear naked when tracking. (I'm just trying to confirm that I'm not as odd as I thought I was.)
Hi Adam! I've always been the singer that has to be able to hear myself really well to keep pitch. For the most part, I do always have to take off the left headphone to really connect with my voice. The only time I don't have to do this is when singing on the Lewitt 440pure mic. For some reason, that mic allows me to keep both headphones on. You're not alone! haha. Do what you have to do to feel comfortable and confident.
@@theworkdayrelease Only difference is that I prefer to take the headphone off my right ear. I guess it doesn't matter which ear I leave naked, but that's what I've gotten used to.
Beautiful Guitar Warren.
Thanks ever so much
This mic would be lovely to record portuguese guitar
Nice Warren thank you.
This really nice sounding mic! Thank Warren and JZ Microphones for this great opportunity! P.S. Send something in Serbia it's really poor here. :)
It's really good looking! 😍
For the price of this microphone, you would think they would send you a box to keep it protected. Nope, they would rather charge you $89 for the case. Speaks volumes. I bought the Vintage 47, really bothers me that they didn't include the box in the asking price.
Hello sir ! Please try 🇮🇳 viewer also v all love u. We all are very thankful to u and ur team which makes our life easier in mixing and mastering the music at the industry level thank you again 🙏 for ur efforts and keep on going sir.
Its very good for acoustic guitar and vocal (male) so it will add dynamics in my mix that is required for a great mix.thanks sir
Is it just me or it has the same kind of vibe as Chris Isaak had in his debut single Wicked Games . It's nice though sounding really really good .
“And I never dreamed that I’d sue somebody like you...” 😂
@@kennethmcclure3715 Laughed out loud.
@@kennethmcclure3715 XD
Sounds extraordinary. The boosts appear to be mild. Actually, a, slight boost of a dB or two around 125 Hz doesn't hurt my voice. And also a great performance of you two. Thanks.
Yes! Jürgen! It's a marvellous mic!
If they can take the SPL, a pair of those might be an interesting overhead experiment. I think they would shine on a piano during a quiet part of a mix too.
cool mic and beautiful song
When an artist wants you to produce his single, what would be the things you would talk about in a first conversation with him?
Payment
This sounds like the ticket for me. I can use more bass in my voice takes.
Good luck Doug!
Produce Like A Pro thank you!
You're very welcome Doug!!
Produce Like A Pro btw, that track you guys put down is cool. Can't wait to mix it. Warren, your guitar licks are the bomb! Davids got a fantastic singing voice! Keep it up crew, you're the best!
Very tasty guitar licks Warren !
I want to try from field recordings to room microphone, want to capture all the sounds with the microphone
Great idea Dax!
Looks a like a great mic for Overheads :)!
I’d love to hear this mic next to Neumann’s TLM67. I’m curious how they compare to each other, particularly because the TLM67 is multi-pattern.
Seems to work well on stuff with not too much natural boom and fizz in them, your electric guitar sounds lush, otherwise as with the male vocal here, it kind of sucks the life and character out because those boosts equate to a big fat mid cut. Would love to hear it on an aggressively bitey female vocal though.
It matches your shirt.
Haha thanks Doug!
Hi, I could take only one and as I have Rode NTA-1 which captures the high end, should I go with v11 or v47/67? Please suggest? I mostly record female and kids vocals and mostly have trouble with sibliances and harsh high-mids.
Warren, is that a new Yamaha Bass??
It's pretty sweet!
I would record vocals and acoustic guitar. Maybe other intruments as well.
Might be just me but I felt like I wanted a touch more de-essing, as the s's and t's were coming through a bit strong. But it sounds nice.
Zeb-ra (zεbrə) :D This mic sounds great and feels like you could get some really good intimate performances. I would love to hear a nice slow jazz singer on it. SOOO WARRRRM.
Hi Warren. Thanks for the reply. I have just purchased the JZ V67 mic, and it is superb. Could you possibly tell me your go to chain, when recording vocals. Compression /etc.
Love the song :D
I'd love to have this microphone! I'm slowly but surely building a smaller home studio so it would be a huge help!
Due to my limited mic choices I’d probably try to use it on just about everything haha!!
That was a nice sound. I could use lots of cliches, but I don’t. I just sounded great. Now, where to enter the competition...
Sounds very nice. Is there processing of any kind on the vocal? EQ? Compression? What was the chain?
Thanks!
I could use it for everything especially in vocals with 6176 and LA2A huuuuuu!!!!!
Wicked game
"Gold drop" different from "gold sputtered"?? Or similar??
it has a different sputtering pattern
Hi Warren! Pretty please weigh in this quick question: are there any SIGNIFICANT differences between the ssl 4000 and 5000 buss compressors? I was told by the seller that his 5000 is essentially identical to the 4000 bus comp (circuit and performance wise) except the 5000 has a limiter section one may engage. He’s selling the two components I’ve been waiting/needing for a minimal outboard mixer use the gear prior to purchase since its being shipped internationally.Cheers Warren!
Friday question: have you ever had outside noise issues while recording (loud birds, cars, etc)? If so how did you handle it? Having issues with loud birds with my home studio.
Try waves c1 gate compressor
Hi I'm just a lil human, who have big passion in animating, dubbing, and making videos. And always entered mic giveaway but never win. Hope i'm luck this time :D
Btw his voice was clearly nice to hear 😄🤣
That bass guitar looks SICK! Fingers crossed for the raffle, would be nice if the mic travelled back home to Latvia : D
Really rooting for the company, our boys doing real well, although quite bit out of the average local musicians budget.
Good luck Kaspars!

Why do you never show raw vocal takes?
link to enter doesnt seem to work ?
omg so expensiiive holy! it sounds so clear too, man I am BROKE! 😂😂 I ENTERED THOUGH. When's the winner announcement?
Holy Batman! That fretless yammy. Tasty! Vocals were nice a little too close maybe for my taste but nice. Whats the mic position on the Marshall Cab?
Hi Warren, please can you level-match your intro music with the content, I have to turn down the volume every time. Awesome work! Thanks!
It kinda looks like a flask!
I think it has a secret opening at the top! haha! Kidding! It's a marvellous sounding mic!
Record my Writing partner Danny Flanagan who has one of those operatic rock voices
Marvellous! Looking forward to hearing that! haha
@@Producelikeapro our latest track releases may 29th we used a Shure PG58 on Dannys and my vocals on it. My mics are where my studio still falls short basic cheap mics nothing 9ver $100 we have learned to make due with and get a good sound so its made us get creative
#FAQFriday
What’s the easiest way to isolate the vocal mic in a rehearsal space. The room is treated, DIY style, but with live drums and guitar/bass amps I was getting entirely too much bleed in the vocal mic. I was recording vocals with a Blue Ember should we have used a dynamic mic instead?
Always dynamic especially for Vox. Use an Sm7b. Point the back of the mic where you want rejection. Use amps to block when possible.
Hello Warren. I haven't got much to say, but please respond to this comment with a heart, would you? Things are pretty fucked in my life right now, and it would mean a lot. Cool? Thanks in advance.
It sounds amazing. I should use it for everything. Bass, guitars and vocals mainly. I like also the black hole. Nice design.
Lol I know this is a four year old video but u won’t get as many plosives if I move bac an inch or two from there and let that pop filter do it’s thing. I’m brok af and don’t have a pop filter and I stand back and almost no pops and hisses hitting my mic
😃
I was thinking this was going to be a modded V67 (MXL) by someone called
JZ 🤷🏻♂️ oops
Me too. I have one and I'm modding it myself
The Chad Pad , I have a modded V67 as my main vocal mic. All I’ve done to it is replaced the capacitor between the capsule and the circuit board - it opened it up a bit. The cap they use is a small cheap one so I replaced that with a bigger and better quality one.
You dressed to the mic… :)
nice song, Warren where's drums ? )
