Did you notice that all the severed heads were only singing in head voice? Kind of a cute inside joke. Geoff's ability to sustain those super low notes always blows my mind.
😂👍
Geoff and his heady remarks and jokes lol. 😆
The low note on this one is around F1, or F#1, I forget. Definitely subharmonic, but not his lowest at the time it was recorded. Geoff's only been doing solo work since 2020, but I think he and VoicePlay have always been the types who embrace Halloween. I mean, they get dressed up and put on makeup for their day jobs! But seriously, that's exactly why I feel like I connect more VoicePlay as a group and Geoff individually than any of the other a cappella giants out there. They aren't 'too cool' to embrace their silly, youthful side, and that kind of joy just shines through the music they create.
100% you nailed it
If you haven't checked out Blackbird or High and Dry I'd suggest it. You get all 5 of his octaves in one song. Mind blowing.
I agree with Candi! High and Dry is absolutely amazing!! There are no bells and whistles. No multiple Geoffs. It’s just Geoff and his piano, and it is my favorite cover that he’s done.
So glad you enjoyed this. Voiceplay have always done great Halloween songs, Geoff's only been doing solo stuff since Covid so there are only two but VP have at least 5 out there. He said he filmed this at his parents house & all the props were already there so maybe the family are Halloween fanatics!!
Voiceplay generally loves Halloween. Geoff is no exception. In a recent Patreon stream he struggled to choose between Halloween and Christmas 😂
3 Heads are also Geoff... and are all 3 are using his head voice only.
That’s because they have no chest!
Thurl Ravenscroft is Geoff's idol. Thurl did the original on this (for Disney's Sleepy Hollow Halloween movie) and this was Geoff's version was kind of his tribute to him.
The singer for the Disney cartoon from 1949 was Bing Crosby.
he filmed this in his house with the assistance of his wife Kathy which is awesome
I thought it was his parents’ house.
On the subject of a Halloween album, Geoff has also narrated some stories by Edgar Allen Poe like "The Tell-Tale Heart", "The Raven", and "The Masque of the Red Death".
His "The Masque of the Red Death" is simultaneously so terrifying and so incredible.
Voiceplay Kidnap the Sandy Klaus is a good Halloween Song too!!!! It has a groovy bass line!
From 2017 - 2020 VP had a Halloween release, all from Nightmare before Christmas, and all arranged by Layne. So there's a history of VP doing Halloween, and most of them pretty theatrical. (2017, the first one, was the least theatrical, with What's This? Still wonderful, if with minimal effects. ) So they're clearly on a roll and I'm hoping they'll release another one this year.
Geoff goes all in on Halloween, but look at Misty Mountains! Seems like "all in" is his default these days, and I LOVE it! But I also appreciate that neither Geoff nor VP forces it, but when crazy costumes aren't called for, they find an appropriate setting without going beyond.
I keep thinking both Layne's and Geoff's kids are growing up in a pretty interesting environment!
VoicePlay will premiere their 2021 Halloween video later today. Get ready, it’s another great tune!
@@majonkie Thanks for making sure I saw it.... will be so great to hear/see J again! From the photo, looks like he's singing the lead.
All of the members of Voiceplay including Earl and Tony worked in shows at either Disney World or Universal Studios before and at the beginning of forming the group.. Some both. Where they had to dress up in costumes.
Geoff for instance worked 10 years at Universal Studios in the Beetlejuice Graveyard Revue as Frankenstein. His wife Kathy was Bride of Frankenstein(where they met. Tony was Dracula. So doing the videos they do where they dress up to the theme of the song is in their blood. It's also why their words are so clear and audible.
Both Voiceplay and Geoff will be releasing videos the end of the month or beginning of next month. Voiceplay is filmed and ready to go when they are.
Geoff is still working on his.
I'm in both patreon so I got to see the early access and behind the scenes videos of Voiceplay.
Title of Geoff 's.
Great reaction. I love these videos. You might want to try Grim, Grinning Ghosts. Its an older video done with Voice Play but its really well done.
All their stuff is good, but as far as Halloween content that you haven't seen yet, "This is Halloween" stands out because the video is so awesome and it gives everyone a little moment to play with the character voices.
I think an entire album would be great! He's so good at what he does! Great reaction!
I love this, it was the first I heard of Geoff’s solos (I think he had done two solos before this, “Bare necessities” and “Blackbird” - he’s only done solos for little more than a year). The heads are singing in “headvoice” - what else could they sing in 😁. I guess that explains the range gap between the lead and the bv in this song. You actually don’t have many songs from his catalog left - 5 perhaps? But hopefully he’ll continue releasing new ones! They’re all great, right now I want to recommend “Saddle Up”, it’s fun! He doesn’t have any more Halloween-y stuff, but VoicePlay does!
Thanks for your reaction. You're awesome. Geoff said in an interview his favorite roles to play are the villain
Thank you Marsha! You’re awesome 🤩 🤘🏼🤘🏼
When you think about it, Halloween is the perfect holiday for VoicePlay. They're so good at the theatrics and that's just perfect. Edit: I especially appreciate how his voice floats back and forth between each side of your headphones. It adds to the ghostly effect.
This video of Geoff's is still my favoritest thing ever! 🎃 👻 💀 Thank you for reacting to it. Geoff does enjoy Hallowe'en. He is definitely a HUGE fan of Thurl Ravenscroft (whose version of this song he is closely emulating here). The song itself is from Disney's "The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad," where I believe this track is sung by Bing Crosby. Thurl covered it later.
As for other Geoff recommendations? I also adore his covers of "High and Dry" (I hate Thom Yorke's voice, but Geoff's version is lovely) and "Take Me Home, Country Roads." 💕
He and VoicePlay love Halloween, they always put their best effort in this time of the year. Btw, VoicePlay is releasing a new cover in a few hours, Friends on the other side, be sure to check that one out.
To be fair I wouldn't be surprised if he loves Halloween and monsters in general as I'm pretty sure he played Frankenstein at universal for about 10 years, I could be wrong though.
He and Kathy either met working Universal or actually became a couple while there. He has commented that he played Frakenstins Monster, while she played Bride of F, for a while. So yes, I would say this holiday is fairly special to him.
Well, VoicePlay loves Halloween. They did Grim Grinning Ghosts, Kidnap the Sandy Claws, What’s This, This is Halloween, and of course, Oogie Boogie, Geoff has the two. But he also has a reading of The Raven on his channel. Thanks for your reaction
If you like the lows, check out Sixteen Tons, Blackbird, or with the group he is in Voiceplay: oogie boogie (this one is amazing and really shows Geoff's range. But Voiceplay is a group that loves to do the full on acting and dressing up for videos.
You have to check out Voiceplay's "This is Halloween"!!! Outstanding!!!
Such a low bass cover. Geoff is great at sustained low notes. You may enjoy his scary/sultry voice narrations on his channel. He narrated Poe's The Raven and some other spooky pieces.
Geoff is so amazing! I’m constantly blown away by how outstanding he is. I’ll have to check out his Poe readings!! Sounds amazing!
If you like seeing Geoff have fun with Halloween check out Kidnap the Sandy Claws and This is Halloween by his friends Voiceplay, you've already done Oogie Boogie's Song so might as well do the other two Halloween themed songs too.
They've done quite a few Christmas ones too. But this year's VoicePlay song for Halloween is due out soon and it's great.
I am not sure that you caught it but all the heads (the harmonies) were Geoff as well.
GEOFF!! YOUR FACIAL REACTIONS ARE THE BEST!!😍😍😍
Geoff said in an interview that his favorite roles to play are the bad guys.
Wouldn’t he have to be the headless horseman? He has 3 heads on his desk, he disappears at the end and you hear a horse riding away.
voiceplay Oogie Boogie
" This is Halloween
" What's This
" Kidnap the Sandy Claws
I've been waiting for you to react to this. Thanks!
For Halloween, you should check out an older VoicePlay video.....with Home Free..."Zombies vs. Hillbillys" a few years ago, but if you like both groups, imagine them together.....hehehe.......>^^
Check out this song, i know it from it from Disney's Ichabod Crane animated feature from the past...may be seen on CZcams.
Please do a reaction video of Voice Plays version of The Dragonborn Comes . It will blow your mind.
