    Friendly reminder to anyone who needs it: YOU’RE ALLOWED TO SEEK A DIAGNOSIS. You’re allowed to find out if you’re just struggling for no reason, or if you’re struggling because you have a condition (ADHD or something else). Either is okay. Also, if you get diagnosed, you’re allowed to embrace it.
    I didn’t think I was “bad” enough or “struggling” enough to deserve this kind of help. If it weren’t for an encouraging family member, I would never have allowed myself to seek diagnosis or treatment. Now I am on ADHD meds and learning new skills; it feels like finding out I’ve had poor eyesight my whole life, and was given a pair of glasses I didn’t think I deserved. It didn’t happen overnight. There wasn’t a big magical moment where I put the “glasses” on and felt different. It took a few months of trying meds and learning and experimenting. But if I hadn’t kept going, I never would have learned I needed “glasses.” I can’t believe I would have denied myself this help.
    Consider me, a random stranger on the Internet, an encouraging friend: If you think you might have ADHD or anything else, you are worthy of finding out and seeking treatment. Don’t be embarrassed, don’t feel like a failure, don’t worry that “it’s a just fad” (like my first doctor said), don’t worry about not having “bad” enough symptoms, don’t just keep “trying harder”…
    Go find out for sure. Do it! For real! It’s worth it no matter what. Keep learning. Talk to a good doctor. You’re worth it.

      Thank you so much for this! I'm in the same place as you were right now. I tend to mask a lot, hide my feelings and struggle internally so that's definitely something I need to overcome when I see someone - to not just respond with "Oh, I'm fine" to every question about me. I have a referral to a psychologist, so I hope I'll have the courage to book an appointment sometime soon

    • @jnharton
      @jnharton Před 2 lety +49

      I would add that almost no one is suffering for “no reason”, there is usually going to be a reason. It’s more a question of what can you do about it, if anything. - Part of the reason to see a doctor or other medical expert is to move beyond deciding for yourself, whether that ends up at a diagnosis, ruling some things out, or advice on how to deal with it.

    I really needed this today. After YEARS of thinking I had ADHD, I got the results of my tests today, and they said that I don't, that my ADHD-like symptoms are more likely caused by anxiety. It felt like a part of my identity had been ripped from me. Like, if I don't have ADHD, then what is WRONG with me. I feel so connected with the ADHD community and have so many of the same struggles. She was saying that signs of ADHD can also be signs of other things and that you’ll still need to get a real diagnosis from a medial professional since ADHD presents differently in everybody. And, since it’s presents differently in each person even if you don’t identify with the signs listed elsewhere you might still have ADHD.

      It is saying that just because you have some adhd symptoms doesnt necessarily mean that you have adhd, and just because you have adhd doesnt mean you will have every symptom. There's a lot of overlap with symptoms of other disorders, so the best thing to do is see a mental health practitioner/psychiatrist if you are able to, so that you can better understand your symptoms, their causes, and how you can treat or accommodate for them.

    As a Gemini with ADHD, you may find that your natural curiosity and intellectualism can be both a strength and a challenge. Geminis are known for being versatile and adaptable, which can help you to thrive in a variety of situations. However, ADHD can sometimes make it difficult to focus and stay on task, which may require extra effort on your part to manage.
    It's important to remember that having ADHD is not a reflection of your intelligence or ability to succeed. Many successful people have ADHD, and there are many strategies and resources available to help you manage your symptoms and achieve your goals.
    Some tips for managing ADHD as a Gemini may include:
    1. Developing a routine: Having a consistent schedule and routine can help you to stay organized and focused.
    2. Breaking tasks into smaller steps: Large tasks can feel overwhelming, but breaking them into smaller, more manageable steps can make them feel more achievable.
    3. Prioritizing tasks: Identify the most important tasks and focus on those first.
    4. Using your strengths: Geminis are often creative and innovative, so try to incorporate these strengths into your work and hobbies.
    5. Seeking support: Don't be afraid to seek support from friends, family, or a mental health professional to help you manage your ADHD symptoms

    Aw man that "You deserve to know" message made my heart so full ;u;
    I'm saving up for a diagnosis myself but I've been getting questions on why I need to have one in the first place if I'm "so sure I have ADHD," and nothing I say seems to get the message through. Been watching this channel for a while and this short only just came up for me but I personally really appreciate the message in this one

    I love the pacing of the vid. I was actuslly able to read the stuff without getting panic or missing something. Since TikTok everything is so horribly fast paced. We're so used to it now, this normal readable pace of this vid almost feels slow.

    Got diagnosed a few days ago. Was relieved but know there’s work to be done. Going to go to my doctor and get a referral to a specialist so I can get proper help.

    You probably won't see this but, you've really helped me, I think I might have ADHD but my parents won't get me diagnosed, they don't want to "label" me, they also think that getting diagnosed is (basically) useless and only helps if I'm in school(I'm homeschooled), you're videos are really comforting and I'd love to meet you ❤️❤️❤️

    Most important is (as always) an accurate diagnose.
    First: I have to thank this channel for speaking up about ADHD!
    I was diagnosed with A LOT of conditions and left many doctors totally confused about my actual condition and necessary treatment. Leading to the try-and-error-method.
    It turned out to be a primary dopamine resumption disorder, causing so many symptoms and problems over the years that it LOOKED LIKE a lot of conditions piled up in a trenchcoat but in fact IS ONLY ONE.
    If your own diagnose seems too complex, try ask your doctor if it could possibly be a small factor influencing all the others.
    How this was diagnosed correctly in my case?
    My newest psychiatrist treated me with Medikinet (methylphenidate) and expected me to go bit manic (like most people would).
    Instead I felt like chilling for the first time in my life. All slowed down at once and 17 of 20 symptoms suddenly disappeared completely. For good, I hope.
    Actually (in my personal case) this confusion could have been solved DECADES ago by a simple DNA-check.
    There's several other mental health issues that need DNA-testing to find the ideal treatment. Otherwise you need to find the right treatment by accident (if you're lucky).
    If your symptoms seem confusing, ask your doctor about DNA-testing for some factors in particular. It might help finding your ideal treatment.

    lol Thank you for an accurate version of this trend. Your channel helped me finally seek a diagnosis late last month at the age of 35. Shared my diagnosis with family and friends who say things like "you can't have ADHD, you are so smart" or "I never realized you had trouble focusing". I have been able to share with several people about the process I went through to get diagnosed, and one friend is now going through the process now too to get the help he may need. Next step will be helping my own kiddos join the Brains tribe. We all deserve to know. :) Thank you for everything!

    I was surprised you didn’t start listing the signs but instead ended on the note of being formally diagnosed and treated!! Then you can recognize your own individual signs of ADHD or mental health condition with your physician! I’ve worked with two other individuals that have been officially diagnosed with ADHD and we were different because we didn’t have the same life experiences or symptoms! If anyone out there suspects they have any sort of “signs”, just talk to a doctor to be sure!
