Mate that vid was extra special. Had a smile on the dial the whole time. These vids help me keep focused on what is to come after these trying times pass. Working my arse off in aus atm and haven’t seen my wife and stepdaughter living in Pakse for over a year now. Keep the vids coming. Cheers Craig. 👍
Well I hope things change and you are safe to travel here soon. It's comments like yours that make it all worth while... thank you 🙏
@@NowinLao , really good to see you help buy a knife from that poor old man. It's worth the money based on the hard work, amount of time and energy he spent making that knife. Thumbs up. Luk Kheur Farang Jai dee lai.
Hey Craig. Keep punchin brother. I already see your a Champ do not give up ok
@@LukeyBoy78 Thanks Luke 👍

My pleasure 🙏
We love Hmong Village so beautiful and People so nice and friendly 😊🥰
@@neeneelaolife7131 , mia kor dee, Luke kheur Farang kor jai dee. Ok ok.
Great little village, beautiful people and kids,as always. The Covid 19 had a huge impact on these poor people as,Todd respectfully acknowledged. Todd picked up a very special item,in that hand-made ,full day, crafted knife. Wonderful to witness an old Hmong Blacksmith tradition .No fancy tools there to craft it . Thanks Todd......Kenno...West Aust
Another fantastic video Todd. You capture the people and their culture so well. What I like most about you is that you obviously have a big heart, you treat all the people you meet with respect. The fact that you try to speak their language is an act of utmost respect. I like that Respect is something we are missing here in the USA at present.
Thank you so much Billy 🙏
Stick around my friend, this trip has only just begun 😁👍
That elderly Hmong Knife maker reminds me so much of my dad. A blacksmith and looks just like my dad... 😥
Awww...the little girl tells the little boy, be careful the white man might steal you at 24 minutes....just melts me heart. Thnak you for sharing, this makes me want to visit Laos and see Hmong people. So humbling to see them.
The "American" man haha so cute
Those Hmong knives are super scary. It’s so sharp I’m scared to use the one my dad recently made for me. Thank you for visiting the Hmong village and supporting by purchasing authentic items! Much love!
Deadly bit of gear those knives! So glad I got one. We always try to help when we can. Thanks for watching 🙏
Nice that you visit my Hmongs people.
You 2 should taste our foods...😊
The metal knife are very strong and good quality. 10 u.s is cheap. In the u.s is about 150 u.s
Very good quality 👍
Yes that was special, kids shake hands amazing, ohhhh love the knife too , your really showing us some great places and people , thanks Todd and neene
Hahaha so open and friendly aren't they!? Love my job Jenny, hope you're well and carefully planning your next trip when things open up. Update video coming on Sunday 👌
So good to see my hmong people and the little girl at 24 min is so cute and wow what a good price for a hmong knife.
I visited that Hmong village back in 2013 and remembered having a conversation with that older Hmong lady towards the end of the video. Yes, she is super sweet. I am Hmong myself so that trip meant a lot to me. Thanks for this video, it brought back some good memories.
So glad you enjoyed it 🙏
I'm super jealous. Gotta make it out to Laos one of these years.
Me too. I'm one of this special group that God so loves his people who are Hmong. Thank you for filming their lifestyles so the world can see to appreciate their existence. Many thanks 🙏 to you, sir ...
Love being given the opportunity to highlight and show the world these wonderful and resilient people 🙏

Best knives ever! Use it almost on a daily.
Agree! 👍
19:12 "that's me and you". imagine this boy stumble onto this video when he grows up. Lol
Wow, Todd....that is some quality knife he got there. We pay like $50-$60 bucks in USA for that. That knife going to last you a lifetime if you take good care of it. Great video, happy you go to Hmong Village. You're gonna get new subscribers/expand your subscribers too. So interesting videos.
Thank you for visiting my hmong people. The knife will last. Again, thank you for sharing the love.
Thanks for watching Benjamin. Love my Hmong knife!
Stick around, more of this trip to come 👌😁

@@yoojyim9560 thank you! More Hmong villages to come. 👌😉
I love this video! My father-in-law was a black smith before the Vietnam war. My husband told me they buried a lot of precious metal knife under their house when they fled Laos. I will never complain about buying a $25 dollar Hmong knife ever again! It’s hard labor.
Wow.... beautiful video. I have never seen how our Hmong knives are made. Thank you so much for sharing!
Your hmong is getting better
Let me help with a little pronunciation:
Not the correct spelling but just for pronouncing purposes.
Nyo zone = hello
Oo-ua. Chow = thank you
Zone shia = happy
She chee dua = goodbye, you see again
The hmong black smith making our infamous hmong knife, very unique in style and shape. That knife will bring you much luck with it’s usefulness.
Little girl at 24:08 says, “you guys watch, the American guy is going to kidnap you..”. 😂
Another great video, mate!
Some sounds just aren't meant to be said by me I'm sure. Kinda like those Lao words starting with Ng.. lol thanks anyway Supra, will keep working on it 😁👍
Lol. I heard them kids say he's going to kidnap them too lol
Real old fashioned blacksmithing. This is way cool. Thanks you guys for this video. Keep at it. Out.
Happy you bought a Hmong Knife! Those things are hefty knives!
That knife is one of my favorite possessions 👌
Enjoyed this video, one of your nicest to watch.
Great video.... great for people watching.. Thanks mate !
Hey Eddie, cheers mate 👍
Great vlog of the blacksmith. When we see this I think of the place we come from near Richmond, Va. Jamestown. The blacksmiths of old Jamestown operated the same way as present day Hmong. Well done my friend. Harriet and Jim Richmond, Va.
So happy we stumbled upon him and I was able to purchase an authentic Hmong knife. All the others I have seen on our travels have just been lightweight cheap mass produced things. Will pay him a visit next time we're in the area and pick up a couple more 👌
Thanks for watching Harriet and Jim, take care
Kiangsu falls looks like another world , Bears Wow ! - the knife & the process is amazing - good video again 🇦🇺🙏👍🍺
It does! Been there many times and each time still leaves me in awe 😲
you guys are a great couple,, she takes care of you and you take care of her, very beautiful couple .

Wow great video ! Thanks for sharing ..
I was in laos twice last year. Can't wait to come back.
I bet ya bloody can't ! 😁👍
Really enjoy seeing the villages. I also spotted the Carlsberg girl at the end of you video.
Haha yep, she was disguised as a Beerlao girl this night 🍺😁👍
Amazing how strong the human spirit is.
I love the old way of life in the villages, so simple but happy. I have found some great tools traveling in the villages of Thailand. Keep the great videos coming.
Yep, love looking through those 'Alladins cave type shops'.. never know what you'll find 👌
Very interesting, love your documentary
Really nice video......so nice to to see the blacksmith and the traditional crafts and handiwork. The falls were really amazing too. 👍👍😁
I think somebody else commented.. the falls are like another world...they are!
Thanks Peter 🙏
What stories the musian could tell of his life nice vid Todd
👍 awesome
You make the best videos, you always makes me smile 😃 please make 1000 more ❤️❤️❤️
Good quality hmong knife. They are very versatile.
Great knife mate 👌
Much love to you good sir for the exposure of the hmoob people and the culture.
This was lovely. I was so pleased to see the old musician. He is usually at the night market and I wondered how he was managing with the lack of tourists. So happy to see he is OK. We have visited the Hmong village many times so it was interesting to see it with no tourists and wonderful you could spend some money there. It would be difficult for them. A tip for anyone planning to go, visit on your way to Tad Kwuang Xi as it is quite early on. And the bears are fed around 11.00 if I remember correctly so they are quite playful at that time. Particularly if it is hotter.
Yeah Todd,,you were right. I was gonna love this one. What an interesting instrument that old guy played,,amazing the sounds that come from a simple instrument like that. His eye did look very painful though. As a dabbler, I truly appreciate the trade of blacksmithing. It's hard at any age let alone 70. I have a friend that made Damascus steel with over 500,000 folds. He has an old ,small pneumatic hammer. The most folds I've made is about 1200,, by hand , no pneumatic hammer . I've made hinges and brackets, simple stuff. I've made a few knives,,but not many. Most modern Smith's use big power tools to help them along. There is an English kid on here that I watch regularly called Alex Steele. Pretty interesting! I loved that nice grandma,,she was a sweet lady. Made some interesting stuff around there. The wife shopping began at the bear center. Lol both pretty women. I love bears,,are those bears native to S.E.Asia or Lao only.they look like bears I've seen from India. Usually I go down to Yellowstone park at least once a year to try to see Grizzlies,,but not this year. 2 weeks ago a father and son got torn up by a pissed off mama grizz. They were elk hunting,,so they had guns and they managed to kill her. I'm hoping the Cubs got captured or were old enough, past 2 , so they might have a chance to survive. The U.S. has had 100,000 plus cases of covid each of the last 2 days. Probably from breathing shitty air at election events. New record highs while trump claims it's been stopped and the numbers are falling. More utter horseshit on his part,,like usual. Around 1000 a day in Montana. Thanks for the awesome video Todd,,much appreciated. You and Neenee take care of yourselves,,Ttyl,,,Marlon
Awesome vid
Great video Todd , 👍👍⁉️ Mr No Pants was funny 😄 Stalking you 😂😂😂😂🤔
Thanks Tim 😝
Very nice score on the knife! Great video!!
The kids smiles, priceless. My fav vid so far Toddy. I'm 42, lotsa travel left in me I hope.. your gettin real good at this gig Todd, Quentin Tarantino like bruvva
Just a pup... still got a shit ton of travellin left in ya mate 👍
Thanks Luke
I love those knives! I got me a few of them. We use them daily for cooking and cutting up larger chunks of meat.
I have seen them in at markets, but nothing like the quality of these. So happy to have found this guy 👌
@@NowinLao I wouldn't mind a good quality Hmong knife, your's looks great. The blacksmith had a decent tang on the one he was making, would be a durable knife.
Lovely people!
Omg I want a home made knife too from them. I like their knives. Have a few at home.
My Hmong people.....🥰🥰🥰
I am Hmonh but that Hmong knife is pretty scary. 😆
A great video Todd, like to have seen more of the bears, but the Hmong village was wonderful. Also thanks for the mention ha ha. Cheers mate.
No problem. Did you catch Neenee's video on the bears?, I think she spent more time with them 👌
@@NowinLao No I haven't Todd, but I will look for it
Reminds me of how Lao was when I was first there in 1999 the locals were so happy just because you wanted to come to their country tourism had just opened up then and the Lao people had such warmth and love that it is still my no 1 favourite country but I do tear up when I see the negative effects of mass tourism
I agree, I am not happy with how quickly Vang Vieng is changing either. It's much nicer traveling to the villages and seeing real people. Their warmth and happiness 🙏
@@NowinLao yes vang Vieng is a prime example in 1999 had 2 restaurants and no bars the difference by 2002 when I next visited was very disheartening and when I see it now through your vlogs😪
That’s super cheap for a good quality knife! And the locksmith is amazing for his age! Thanks for sharing your video!
These type videos ...story telling videos with SPECIFIC ANCIENT LOCAL culture, RARE HARD TO FIND SKILLS & local ancient crafts R up my alley...
(15secsAdsTempurpedic,investorplacefinancial2,01minsAds)
Even Paul Hogan would approve of that knife. 😂
Such a beautiful location there. We’ll have to do a road-trip when things get back to normal.
Hahaha that thought did cross my mind...it seriously IS A KNIFE! Yeah we'll have to do something mate 👍
Great videos
Cheers, glad you like 👍
That's a nice blade specially getting from the source itself. I like to get one but it needs to o be original as well nice blade and enjoy it
Nyob zoo, Great video my friend.
OMG, just discovered your channel. Love how you travel to some of the Hmong villages. I don’t remember much but it’s good to know and kind of sad how to see how they live.
Welcome aboard Kaolee.. many more videos of this trip to go and many more villages planned to visit. Where abouts in Lao are you originally from?
she was a very happy person
Great video🥰🙏🙏🙏
Thanks Jake 👍
Now that was a Nauif!!🙂🙃🙂❤
I seriously got to get to Laos one of these days. Maybe next time I go to Thailand whenever the covid is over here in Canada and I can fly in a plane again instead of riding on the back of the Canada Geese as they pass by. I'll stop in and buy you a beer wherever you might be at the time.
Hahaha you're on brother 🍺😁👍
Just saw this video now and I caught the part where the elderly lady brought out a photo of herself when she was a big younger. Unbeknownst to the traveler, the reason why they do that is to try to reach out to their distant family. Hopefully, someone will come across your video one day and recognize her from her photo because she is unrecognizable in her old age.
hi, just found you, very good vlogs, best wishes from London ,uk.
Hi Frank, and welcome. Thank you
the musician at the beginning is amazing
I have seen him many times up here, always helping him out. Our last evening there was a great time to capture him and give him his 5 mins. Oh the stories he'd have 🙏
@@NowinLao he really is a treasure mate. Great you got him on video got all to see
18:46 "Txhob noj noj tes maj." Or in English, "stop biting your hand."
That's pretty awesome. Its hard to come by real authentic hmong knives nowadays.
Thanks, gonna make sure I get a couple more next time I'm up there 👌
Missing Luangprabang xx💝💞💗
Those little girls so cute....enjoy watching your video. I will come to buy those hmong knife after the pandemic. Thanks for support the Hmong family.
Hey Ashley 👋 no problem, love being able to visit and help out, even if it's just a little. Take care 🙏
what a fun side trip....and you didn't even lose the wife shopping ;) I would have left with at least one knife also.....thanks for sharing brother
Yeah, im kinda regretting I didn't get 2 knives now... why? No reason 😝
How you going brother? Keeping out of trouble back home? Enjoying your time with the lil' one?
Take care mate 🙏
@@NowinLao yea, i think i would have walked away with a couple. ... Oh well, now that you know he's there, give you a reason to stop in the next trip that way.
Doing good here, having s blast with my little one and making up for the time that i missed. Sometimes feels like i have a loud piece of velcro attached to me. Haha but loving it ;) lots of storytime and cuddles.
Keep putting it the videos brother. Enjoying my time here, but missing SEA. No problems here in the land of crazies. Still warm here, but some time soon the cold weather will come.
Take care brother, keep enjoying those shopping trips with Neenee and making mom jealous ;)

About time mate! 🍺
I understand the need for the travel restrictions, but lift them already! These places look super interesting.
You understand why the restrictions are in place, but hey, let's risk these peoples lives because it looks interesting 🤔 hmmm
@@NowinLao That is not what I meant. Of course, wait until it is safe to lift the restrictions.
@@charchar8 yeah, these people relied on tourism so much.
@@NowinLao I wish we can do more for them. Without sea ports and better roads, it is difficult to attract industry.
Communist (Russian) transport truck leaf spring. I heard that commie spring steel is some of the best steel alloy ever made.
I have like 4 of those hmong knives at home lol, use em for butchering animals and cutting sticks. Anyways I like your youtube channel and the content you produce!
Awesome knife!Thanks 👍
keep up the great videos.. who wants to learn some hmong. "Nyob Zoo" hello
💯🔥💙👍
His anvil looks like it's an old 155 mm artillery shell that either wasn't fired or was a dud. Front end cut off and the explosives sweated out.
My FIL’s dad was a Hmong blacksmith. He passed away 80 years ago prior to the height of the Secret War in Laos. My BIL went to Laos for graduate research; PhD. Amazingly, he was able to locate grandpa’s anvil and brought it back to the USA. My first reaction seeing it was a giant railroad stake. But it was a Hmong blacksmith anvil!
"mr no pants!!! 😂🤣😂🤣 not much air time for u" hahhhhh
24:08 The little girl holding the fruit said to the little boy in the Spider-Man shirt to be careful before the American kidnap you, which she was referring to you lol.
Nothing chops up roast pork like a sharp hmong knife!
I love that you take the time to showcase the local crafts like blacksmithing, etc.
I'm guessing from watching a few of your videos that you understand quite a lot of what the Lao people are saying but you don't speak much yourself?
Thank you.
I don't know exactly what they're saying, but from recognizing a few words I sometimes know what they are talking about... that make sense?
Anyway, thanks for watching, great to have you along 😁👍
at 9:06 the lady's voice said, "they said there is a virus but Americans are coming back." It means they are elated to see tourists again.
I can understand their elation. Tourism meant so much to their village
Tourism dollar (kip) must help the village. I'm sure they're shooed away at night.
Dead jealous of your knife, looks like a lightweight Kukri.
Hi Todd. Can you Do me a favour? I saw interested your video walking in a garden for months, could you show the trees to which fruit belongs? Please 🙏🏻 I only know how Bananatrees look like. Hmmm, getting hungry... Good Video again, have fun with your knife (cutting fruits? 😉)
Sure, will show the trees whenever I recognize them 😁👍
Thanks Sascha
