Centipede feeding time

  • Feeding (almost) all my centipedes.
    Species name, size and age at the time of recording are shown at the bottom.
    Since I recorded this video I've taken care of the mites you can see on one of the E. trigonopodus by putting in predatory mites (Hypoaspis miles). It works great and the mites were gone in less than a week, I highly recommend this method.
    Music: W. A. Mozart - Piano Concerto No. 21 in C major K467.: II. Andante.

    @David Donnell It seems I can't reply to you directly because of the cancer that is Google+
    Still, to answer your question: I'm fascinated by arthopods in general, they're one of the biggest, most diverse (and pretty imho) groups of animals, and by centipedes especially since, when kept under natural conditions, they exhibit a wide range of interesting behaviours that you can't see in the wild or even in documentaries.
    Also I attempt to breed them in captivity, something only few people do, so that the demand for wild caught specimens goes down and fewer get imported and instead people can buy and raise animals that haven't been taken from nature.

      Extreme PETA people and such, they don't like human interference in any animal affairs no matter what. No doubt they see the feeding of one animal to another as something to be hated. These people are extreme, and also stupid, but you will see the same kind of dislike ratios in other perfectly normal videos.

    This is a pet that needs live food, people. And you're complaining? Same with snakes/carnivorous reptiles, some falconry birds, and these guys. Seriously. I've never seen anyone complain about live crayfish being fed to oscars. Or about crickets being fed to snakes and lizards. And, they actually do have a brain. They just evolved to have the capability to ignore pain. That's why we supposedly "hate" them. If we squish the end of one, it still moves, hoping to escape. And we as humans do not like to let our prey escape. Their and other Arthropods' ability not to die instantly is terrifying to some.

      +masha misha Two words. Exotic. Pet.
      Lizards, hermit crabs, fish, hell, MANTIS SHRIMP. Mantis Shrimp are way worse, they beat their prey to death. With club hands. Exotic pets have nothing to do with companionship (I mean, octopi, hermit crabs, and tarantulas can befriend you). They're mostly for show, and for pet keeping.

    • @Fruchtpudding
      @Fruchtpudding  Před 9 lety +10

      Donna Boucher They all do behave differently, you could call that 'personality' if you really want. Touching or even holding them is a terrible idea and also a good way to loose them, even if they wouldn't bite they would run away and you'd never find them again and they'd probably die of dehydration. Bad idea all around.

      Whoa, that escalated quickly. Why would they run away, and dehydrate, if you just touch it... I mean, it's not like anyone suggested to have it sitting around in the middle of the desert and start stroking it until it bites you so painfuly that you throw it agaist a rock heated by the sun to 9000 F.

      They usually don't exactly feel compassion but they do experience remorse. If you look close enough you can see, deep into their eyes, the sadness that comes with taking another bug's life. They will often prey for hours after finishing his/her meal, hoping to find forgiveness in their bug-religion......
