Had a friend, he's dead now, but he wanted to borrow this album, until he saw the cover. He said if his Mom saw it, she'd go ballistic. So I just let him come to my parents house and listen to it. I got cool parents. They didn't care what was on the album cover, as long as we didn't play it "too loud".

i think the only people ozzy and dio ever convinced they were 'devil worshippers' were over-protective moms, super-prudes who thought anything harder than ricky nelson was just wrong, and religious types who saw satan in everything ala ned flanders. while we got that the album covers were worrisome to some ppl, we also knew the personas were just characters and the covers were for shock value -- i mean, if it pissed the parents off, it was that much more appealing, eh?

@@manlymcstud8588 That's what made it all the more appealing to the youth, they knew their parents wouldn't like it and ultimately we want what we can't have, so keeping it away from the kids or telling them that they will be punished etc for listening to it has the opposite effect, the kids will just want it more. I know I did.
As a British man of South Indian descent, it was unheard of for someone like me born into Indian Culture and an Indian Social Circle to get into heavy metal and all that comes with it such as growing hair, wearing leather, spikes, chains, going to metal shows until the early hours etc and choosing to spend hours listening to metal or learning to play my guitars instead of doing what was expected of me by a totally different mentality, a different mentality to the British Culture I grew up in. My parents never gave me much difficulty over it but their friends and some of our relatives really tore me apart about it. But I never listened to them because I knew I was too strong in my faith and they couldn't do anything other than attempt to shame me with nonsense words.
I had to fight to keep my passion for metal alive and to cultivate my identity from those who tried to turn me into someone else or those who tried to make my life a misery for being true to myself.

You don't have to worry if the man you've committed to is out fucking your friends, the babysitter, your yoga instructor, sister, etc. Which statistically is quite likely. We resist it emotionally sometimes, but freedom is as good for women as men. Often, even better. 😉

@@ella17734 I'll try not to be mean here because Dio wouldn't like it, but I respectfully think it's the dumbest thing ever to try to make anyone feel good about not being good enough for another. Having some sex is better than having no sex. It has a psychological impact for sure. Other than that, being cheated on is infinitely better than never having had an intimate personal experience with someone, generally, sex or no. That is all. It's like you're a cancer patient trying to tell the dead guy it's almost as bad for you. Ridiculous.

So the first verse is Dio singing what your internal voice says to you on a daily basis. It is full of negativity that prevents you to live fully. It's not life advice by Papa Dio. He really wants you to do the opposite of what this voice is saying. He is not "dropping red pills".
The second verse is Dio letting this inner voice speak. Its says "I am the one that makes you look and feel" which means I am your own mind. It says "I am danger. I am the stranger" which means as much as if you are so worried about strangers you should be worried about these thoughts you are having now. They are strange and unnatural. You should get rid of them. The first verse talks about the false dangers. Fear of talking to women or risk taking or daydreaming. You're just imagining that these things are bad. The second verse sings about what the real danger is. This inner voice which makes you live in fear of living.
"I am anger; I am pain" which means these thoughts come from the anger and frustration that you've let build up in your life. The source of which could be false friends, bad parents, no luck with women, you're poor, sick, unhappy, friendless whatever.
"I am master. The evil song you sing inside your brain. Driving you insane." You are not in control of your own emotions and thoughts and your own life. It's these negative thoughts that control you and are bringing you down. You must master yourself and take back control of your own life.
The theme of this song is similar to most other Dio songs. Beware of false friends and false ideologies. Get rid of the fear to live. Stop being meek and timid. Don't let people use you. Now is the best time to make positive changes. Cut toxic people out of your life. Go alone if you must. Be the best version of yourself. Be the star in your own life. Talk to strangers. Go on and explode. Go dance in the dark. Ride the tiger and so forth.

Just my piece here. Here's how I interpret this song:
This whole song is our inside spirit and soul telling our brain and mind-
Don't do stuff like wasting yourself over silly thing like a bad woman that would harm you, break you and use you up.
At the end of the day, it's just US. Our soul our mind our brain our body. Basically what Dio calls it real and forever that helps you look and feel. We are danger, stranger to ourselves not understanding our own worth and capabilities.
The inside is still dark, anger and pain. But at the same time it's master to all of this which indicates it can be controlled for our good. For this, don't let bad stuffs get to your mind. Run away from them. Protect your soul. Don't bluff and easily trust bad people, you are sure to fall next time.
And lastly don't dream of women. They will bring you down to their own level.
This is how I interpeted it. It may be completely opposite to what Dio would ve thought but this is how I m taking it while going through a bad phase.

I, like so many others, can relate to these lyrics a lot, in fact, even more now than when I was younger.
"Don't talk to strangers, 'cause they're only there to do you harm." (sounds like those moments where you want to argue against some Internet troll/asshole nowadays, but you really shouldn't, especially if you are too sensitive)
"Don't smell the flowers. They are an evil drug that makes you lose your mind." (Like when you watch any type of video on social media and takes it way too seriously, or even if you just get "manipulated" by some random troll post you've read. Some of the more eduactive videos are good to think of though.)
"Don't dream of women, 'cause they'll only bring you down." (Actually, that depends on how either man or woman handles the relationship. I for example don't want to bring my future girlfriend down, neither other women.)

    *MY TAKE ON THE LYRICS*
Many people think that Dio tells people what should they do in this song, but it's quite the opposite. He actually speaks about today's way of life that chained us and doesn't want to set us free, feel alive and be creative. Live the full life, people. Today.
    So:
    Do talk to strangers
    You may find a friendship
    For a lifetime
    Do write in starlight
Cause the words will set you free
    Do hide in doorways
    You will find the key
    To your inner strength
    Do go to Heaven
And then come back to Hell
    Do smell the flowers
    They're a gentle cure
To make you calm your soul
    Do dream of women
Cause they'll make you feel alive
    ...
    Do dance in darkness
You may learn the steps that will make you fly
    Do write in starlight
Cause the words will set you free
    Do talk to strangers
    (Do talk to strangers)
    Cause they're only there
    To make you rad
    Do dream of women
Cause they'll make you feel alive
    Don't run away, girl 🤘😄
