- Wilma's First British Eventing Debut! đ Solihull Riding Centre - Can We Qualify for Regionals?
Welcome back to another exciting eventing vlog, and this one is extra special! Today, Wilma is taking on her first-ever affiliated British Eventing event at the beautiful Solihull Riding Centre. đ For those of you who have been following our journey, youâll know that Wilma has previously only competed in unaffiliated Cotswold Cup events, so this is a big step up for her.
Solihull is a fantastic venue, but itâs also known for its challenging and full-up tracks, so we certainly had our work cut out for us. To add to the excitement, I set a rather ambitious goal for the day-to see if Wilma could qualify for the regional championships in September with just one BE event đ
Tune in to see how we fare against the competition, the ups and downs of the day, and whether Wilma can pull off a surprising qualification. Itâs a day full of learning, excitement, and some nail-biting moments.
Donât forget to like, comment, and subscribe to stay updated on all our equestrian adventures! Let me know in the comments if youâve ever set a big goal and how it turned out-Iâd love to hear your stories!

The absolute best thing about Meg finally owning a Bay... The quarter marking challenge!!! You did great Meg especially with Hobbit commentary đ
You threw your confidence forward into Wilma's brain, and your focus was on helping Wilma. For me, this is one of your best events ever! Onward and upward. Great job!
Wow, thank you!
@@elphick.event.ponies Honestly Meg. I'm still "buzzin'"". No need to reply
Nice to see you applying the suggestions Simon made for riding Wilma. They obviously worked well for you. What works at home doesn't always get remembered during a competition. Congrats on the third place finish, too! Wilma is really coming along beautifully.
Simon is such a good teacher. He sees the things and is able to communicate it well.
I donât think Iâve ever seen you ride so forward in show jumping. Well done. I think Wilma liked that much more than riding cautiously.
Goodness me Wilma is improving - absolutely a different horse by the end, and well ridden Meg. Really well done.
Thanks so much! đ
@@elphick.event.ponies Just telling it like it is! xx
How she sticks her tongue out when you salute at the end of dressage is just the most precious. Such a cutie!
So happy to see Wilma out and about, shame about Jam and Winnie! But it happens, horses are horses đđCan't wait to watchđ„°
Wilma is such a smart girl. She has curiosity. You can see she wants to figure things out. She is going to be such a rewarding pony.
1.Hobbit I feel ya. Iâm a âvintageâ mom. Bend down, back feels like youâve been stabbed. Bend at the knees and the crack is audible. Then (for me) can I get back up!
2. Meg, incredible change. Not sure exactly when it happened but you had a handle every bit of the way. That relaxation and confidence just filters down to Wilma. You ask and she tries. She asks and you try. Itâs a beautiful ever changing dance. A give and take that you donât always see. Itâs here with you and Wilma. You two will go as far as you dare.
Wilma woo is so special, I think sheâs gonna go so far in your hands â€
You can see the rise in confidence in both of you since the training at Simons. In my opinion you guys make a great team and can go further than you think. I love the fact that even though she is careful she is getting quite bold and enjoying herself. The increase in her fitness is helping her confidence also. Well done Elphick Event ponies xxx
Looked like such a great course, lovely to see how much Wilma seemed to enjoy it. she is defiantly a badminton winner in the making!!! Very well done Meg your riding seems to have become so much more positive after your camp with Simon, you have come so far and should be very proud of yourself. Lots of love Esther xx
She really is settling into her job! Really an amazing thing for me to watch. I love how you guide your âbabiesâ with such care. Thatâs what makes you such a great rider. Itâs all about growing together. Just like you said. Riding each pony knowing each of their quirks. Congratulations on your 3rd!!đ„
Look at her! She's coming along so nicely. It's really remarkable considering you haven't really had her that long and she's still quite young. Congratulations on third place!
100% agree with Hobbs at 39:30 - you rode Wilma so forward and the mare responded!
Love this sensitive little horse, the quarter mark shenanigans đ
Meg huge huge congratulations. Great test and so improved with jumping. I can see you winning grassroots at Badminton. Well done Wilma. So excited for the future for you. Again congratulations your an amazing team.
Meg YOU and Wilma are getting such a great partnership . And how watching her ere's go for woulds. When she see the WATER, you and Wilma have come on such a journey ,too gether. That's such a great dressage, clear s.j. and a fantastic x.c. đđđđđđ Take care and all the best good luck for t fucher. đđđđđđâ€â€â€â€đ¶đ¶đ¶
Absolutely a confidence issue - Wilma looking to you to be 100% positive. Well done.
Wow!! you rode so positively - that'll give Wilma a lot of confidence. I think she might keep you on your toes, just because she's Wilma. thanks for your videos.
Yeh you can never predict her next move đ
The confidence! Itâs wonderful to see. I think youâve clicked with her, excited to see more of Wilma xoxo
My goodness Megan!!! Wilma looked AMAZING! You were riding so confidently which is such an inspiring thing for me who has a horse that spooks like Wilma, you have helped me massively with my riding and having someone to look up to and take notes from. She will 100% hold down the fort while Jammy and Whinnie are poorly
You two are becoming such a cohesive team!!! Well done! BIG fan of this horse, the potential is so exciting đâ€
Great result. Solihill is a brilliant venue. Wilma is a changed horse!.....so forward XC, just needed to get the steering in orderđ . Having watched Justine and Lucy Counsell go novice, it was a huge course for them, but the whole XC is so interesting and asks the right questions. Very well done. Oh, the 10 mins of quarter markings was hilarious...đ.
Well done ladies! What a great outing. Loved the look of concentration on your face, Meg. Your confidence is so improved. Fun to see Hobbs and Pete. â€â€â€đđđ
Hello! Meg you are such an inspiration after watching your journey from your confidence knock it really helped me with mine, you helped me find my love for horses again â€â€â€
Best wishes for your future. I hope it's upwards and onwards for youđ€
Wilma is a star. Sheâs a baby still but I love the fact she wants to do it but is scared at the same time - bless her!! Fab riding Meg - she needs to be told itâs all fine and you did that exactly with your riding. Best way for increasing confidence and it showed đđ
Well done Wilma you looked fabulous and great ride by you Meg. This partnership is really coming together and great third place đ„ too. Loved the boot walk and they look like a really great product all in all another fab vlog đ„°â€ïžâ€ïž
you are a good pair , Meg learning to connect with wilma with a really good mentor Simon. It takes a family to rise a baby. Meg you have the support of people that loves you and your Wilma. Love your equestrian couple to brings you as far as you both feels like to. By being simply amusing yourselves with what you learn. I love you guys!!! great job.
Wilma is beautiful, a very pretty mover and has so much talent and potential - can't wait to see the video of you both 2 at Badmington someday!!
^Badminton
Wilma is an AMAZING pony â€x
I love the new boot walks. đ Fantastic job!
Well done meg! You guys are such a good pair and I can't wait to see more of Wilma's progress!! She is doing super well very proud of you both!!†We love you guys so much!! â€ïžâ€ïž
Wilma is definitely starting muscle up noticeably.đđ»
What an amazing day. She looks absolutely amazing and incredible riding from you Meggy! What a superstar sheâs going to be đ„čâ€ïžâ€ïžâ€ïžâ€ïž
Proud of you for that flyer. Not a pull in sight đđđđđ
Wilma has improved soooo much since you got her , I'm so proud of you both â€â€đlove the new song btwđ
What team. Your lovely hands are what gives her the courage and confidence. She knows sheâs not going to get a jag in the mouth when she lands. Brilliant video. Well done all.
I love Wilma!
Loved the quarter markings! Wilma looked so happy out there. Great job guys!
So pleased to see a long vlog đđđđ
That show jumping round!! Well done Meg, you rode her so well!!
Great job, Meg! Such forward and positive rides over both jumping rounds! You never took your focus off the fence, o matter how wiggly Wilma got- beautifully done!
Oh my goodness Meg you and Wilma look spectacular! Your communication and partnership shine in this video and it truly shows how amazing of a rider you are and how amazing of a horse she is. I 100% agree with what Lucinda said am so happy youâre taking the time to apply Simonâs corrections. Beautiful work from you both! (Wilma licking and chewing at the salute during your dressage test was adorable)
So kind, thank you so much!
She stood back off a couple of the showjumping jumps but you both still took them in your stride and with positive conviction. This all bodes well for when you put her at higher jumps.
yayy! Welldone wilma and meg!! â€
You guys looked great!! Youâve got so much potential I canât wait to see where this new partnership goes. She seems like sheâs got a great brain and getting the drive. You also seemed more confident, too. Rode through a couple tough moments
So pleased to see, that Meg and Wilma came to an agreement half way through the cross country.
And a much better attitude from Meg about her experience on Wilma. Well done at Solihull.
With both Winnie and Jam on rest, perhaps Meg can make the most of this time to develop some more understanding between her and Wilma.
Wilma: "I want to go again, when is the next XC?". Well done both of you
Very even dressage, lovely forward SJ, and looked like she needed to get close to the XCountry fences that she thought were scary!
Lovely to see Hobs, well ridden Meg, and congratulations on the result! đđ».
Great to have Hobbs back with the team.
Congrats! I absolutely LOVE the Connie cross TBs. Thoroughbred gameness and Connie native ability to get out of trouble. Loved how she was really interested in everything that was going on.
Love seeing all the hard work you are putting in with Wilma! Sheâs so talented but a new kind of ride for you, and it takes time to grow and develop those partnerships. Well done for putting in the time and effort and Iâm glad you have her to focus on for this season. Congrats on a fabulous day!
Omg! After all these years watching, I am beginning to actually understand the dressage scoring and what the different scores mean! And YOU are really riding with control of the mount you are on. Your hands are much better...yep...really pleased with Meg too!!đ
I am so happy taht you can ride after what happened
Nice to have Hobbs back :) well done Meg and Wilma
Hehe. Hobs was just about steaming out of her ears.
Big big congratulations đ! Absolutely love Wilma and great to see a good day out with all of lifes challenges lately!!!†Lovely
Well done, you two! Team work is making the dream work!
Aaah dude, that looked like such an incredible day!! Well done to all involved for the event, I can't wait to see what you've got up your sleeve!
Good result. She was so sweet going in the waters without turning a hair.
Wilma is looking fab! I was also at the same Taylor night at Wembley and also sang Taylor to my horse none stop đ you belong with me is our SJ song đ
20:24 that horse in the background was stunning
Omg, you're killing me with the quarter marks. đ
Wilma has a brilliant canter. Love the duelling dressage commentary!
Mother, puulease! The two of you talkđźng together is level 10.
Wilma is spectacular! â€â€ The new boots may have caused some of her initial spookiness?
Wilma is such a legend horseđđ
Very well ridden. That xc clear was down to you, a lesser rider like me would never had gotten round!
I do think with plenty of training across the next few months she could do really well at Bramham. There is going to be a moment soon where it just clicks with her. Itâs certainly coming
The missing sparkly stick is peak Veronica, love it đ đ
Well done to you and Wilma you did amazing
Ahaha yay!!! â€â€ so proud! Under a minute too
22:56 Iâve heard quarter markings on only one side makes you run a faster XC course đ€đ€đ€Łđ€Łđ§Ą
Well done Meg!!! Amazing job, sheâs coming on leaps and bounds xxxx
I'm laughing so hard at the sight of Wilma picking up her back legs like "What are these things you've put on me??!" đđ€Ł She looks like a dog that you've put booties on in the winter, so confused and offended. Great job to the both of you, that 3rd place was well-earned. â€
Wilma woo looking fizzy! Nice to see your going to be a great team â€
I was at that concert too! it was amazing, I died when she brought out Ed
So fun to have Hobbit and Pete's Eats in the blog at the same time! Wilma does have a lovely big stride. She does seem to like dogs, maybe a shetland for Hobbs and a dog for Wilma? Very pretty eye-catching frilly.
Well done!! I really enjoyed watching đ€©
I think the Judge wrote ".... to improve throughness." Many congratulations, Meg & Team Elphick đđđđ Meg, you rode so positively & Wilma is starting to become so much more confident. She looked really chilled (during the quarter-markingsđ«Ł & getting tacked up) bless her†Loved the vlog & all banter - Hobs is a real sweetheart. Looking forward to what's nextđ€
Well Thoroughbreds have the canter -usually-I had one mare who did not but had an exquisite trot. Wilma has a gorgeous trot and exquisite canter-it was lovely -the dressage
OMG I am so invested in the mystery of the sparkly stock! No spoilers plz...
Awww you guys did so good and Meg was so good with Wilma
Well done - but main point is LOVE Hobbsâ commentary and back chat. Someone who does that for us keep us all honest ;-)
Oh, Meg. I love your peanut gallery, but I don't think I'd want to perform under their wickedly funny comments. You are a real pip, Meg :) I thought Wilma looked fabulous in her test (the quarter markings especially :). I totally agree: she is looking relaxed and flexible and has so so much potential -- she is gorgeous and you ride her beautifully.
Well done Wilma is a good horse. Great job
Meg, you both were brilliant!!
Meg the quarter marks looked straight every single time you did them ahahahaha! Need to have more confidence in yourself!!
Isn't that Meg's character though! Lacking confidence. I can hear Rich, Simon even Lucinda tell her to be more positive about herself and that she can ride, very well. I know nothing about riding but even my ignorant eyes can see her skill and talent, and that she treats her horses with kindness and respect. Meg is a gem and I hope she achieves all her heart desires.
Do I dare admit that I don't like quarter marks? I'll just slink, quietly home now.
Loved this! Alternate title could be "How a Team Develops Trust". Conratulations. And BTW, I love "Pete's Eats".
Congratulations on third place đ.
Wow terrific round, she did the waters fantastically đđâ€
oh my i am so sorry Meg about Hob's commentary. I so love and adore you both Hobs and Meg! Wilma looks fantastic and seems to be on the up and up getting more and more skilled by the day. Whatever you are doing keep doing it
"I don't know who this girl is that we're watching, but it is NOT Meg Elphick"
NAH GIRL, it IS Meg Elphick! It's the Meg Elphick who's always been in there, you just didn't know it! KEEP GOING!
awe!! i loovvee wilma!!
She made you work Meg over the first few fences. Once settled she was dead keen to get on with it. Great job.
Gorgeous Wilma đ
Iâm so excited
â€Congratulations Meg.Love from Texas
Looked like you had a blast out there!
Love this Meg!! Wilma isn't my horse so I don't know how she canters normally but when she cameout of the start box for xc her back legs were very happy and it almost looked like she was very uncomfortable with back boots on? Obviously she has to get used to but maybe whyshe was but distracted at the beginning x
Well done, onward and upward.
Do judges even notice the quarter markings? The looked great!
