In his letter to the Galatians, the apostle Paul wrote, the core christian values were the fruits of the spirit. Those fruits were identified as peace, love, joy, faithfulness, forbearance, kindness and goodness.
I wouldn't exactly rely on Paul for kindness and tolerance. He seems to have hated women. (word has it he suffered from a botched circumcision and was infected and in pain because of it most of his life. Hence the source of intolerance for most acts of sex in general in Christianity) Blamed women for the original sin and all the terrible punishments including death by stoning for women. Paul is the original intolerant.
