Replacing an undersize rusted out culvert pipe under a driveway that could not keep up with the water flow. Installing a 2'x20' pipe with a 1990 Yanmar b50 excavator.

Outstanding! Excellent reasonable effective solution! I agree it should be deeper, but bedrock is bedrock. Another usually less effective option would be to use two smaller pipes side by side so the top of the pipes would be lower. Perfect slope on the pipe. No wasted motion with the excavator. Great job on delicately moving the tree limb twice, and great packing with the bucket. And you included your trademark stone wings and caps on the pipe ends. The land owner is penny smart and dollar foolish. What old pipe? It was long gone. It is always frustrating when the customer will not let you do what needs to be done for the best result. Some people refuse to understand that cheap work is not good and good work is not cheap. Going back the second time, your price should have been higher because she wasted your time the first time out. The limestone finished off the job beautifully! You made the most of that limestone. Nobody gets out of the truck and hand rakes limestone! The landowner should be delighted with the beautiful result. Your video production has become very polished and professional! Happy Thanksgiving!

You really are working hard and going the extra mile of actually getting out and building the rocks around the pipe. You are a hard worker sir, much respect.
glad you mentioned it's not deep enough so people don't get confused. Also worth noting from an engineering perspective a pipe is treated like an arch. The backfill and compression of solid 3/4" or 1" stone around the pipe walls while putting it in is way way way more important than putting gravel on top. The load should get distributed around the sides if done correctly.

Great video. I've been maintaining my 900ft gravel driveway through wetlands in New England for the last 18 years. The best thing for stubborn potholes is the scarifier teeth on a box blade. Set them deep. I found if you don't tear up at least a couple inches below the bottom of the pothole, it will consistently keep coming back. I picked up a cheap rosco 1-2 ton, split drum roller, between the box blade and the roller I can keep my gravel driveway like pavement pretty much all year long.

Its so refreshing to see an excavator actually go back with hand tools to put the finishing touches on a job. I maintain 600 feet of complicated driveway with a few woods roads. I have installed perhaps 10 plastic culverts. One trick I learned if possible is to dig a silt hole on the uphill side of the culvert to catch solids before they enter the pipe. I also hand set the culvert with a level. I suppose its just inexperience with my back hoe. I can never get the ditch right with just the machine. I tend to over dig and then adjust the set of the pipe with what ever is laying around so its got a few degrees of tilt. This is by far my favorite channel. My grand son loves the machines almost as much as Micky Mouse.

I have come back to this one several times. I like it when Andrew puts stacks of rocks at the ends of a culvert when he installs it. It reminds me of the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps) back before WWII. They did work on what are still many of our national parks. They built cabins, hiking trails, bridges and other early infrastructure projects, before the war. Andrew is like a one-man CCC. --

I remember getting into this channel back in the early days when some videos only had a few thousand views. It was the shipping container building that drew me in and the other content was just a bonus. Now a lot of videos seem to be close to 1M views or in some cases well over, even simple culvert replacement videos. This channel is really taking off, and the likes to dislikes ratio is really good on most if not all of them as well. Congrats.
Where I am in Texas there isn't rock isn't as easy to come by. I can't be certain, but feel like the price of rock is likely a lot higher here. I have a half mile long dirt road that I had purchased a tractor to maintain. Wish I could get a lot of rock laid on it, but alas, half a mile of rock is expensive. Boxblade and grader worked great for what I was doing. Sadly had to sell the tractor. Next one I get will have a front loader on it. So many things I did with that 3pt that would have been tons easier with a front loader! Enjoy your video as usual. Great work.
You are better off putting some road fabric down first under the gravel. It will keep the gravel from sinking into the mud and ultimately save you money because you wont be buying gravel as often. Here it is here: amzn.to/2Kpg2QU
I would suggest at least 8" of stone on top of textile material.. Removing topsoil first will allow you to get the final elevation you need. I would also suggest renting a small compactor. Compact in 2 or 3 layers. Will prevent uneven settling or grooves. Also important to grade to prevent standing water. A flat parking area is a recipe for potholes!
dyke the water off than dig the pipe to grade and actually check the grade so the pipe is not bowed. deeper would be good also but may not be possible to get drainage. 2 12 inch pipe would work better for getting more cover.
Love to come back and watch your videos when I'm needing that extra kick to go get at it. You deserve all the success that comes your way brother. You've earned it.
I just found Andrew's channel a week ago and I am totally hooked as I go back to view some of his earlier videos. I really enjoyed this one. He isn't scared to try anything! I like that! You know, Andrew may do some things different than you would do them. And that is fine. Why do some people always have to critique everything? Why can't they just sit back and enjoy the videos? If they don't like what they see...then move on! Why publicly criticize anyone? I don't understand what 'throwing darts' on YT at other people accomplishes except make someone who is weak feel strong? If you can't find anything nice to say...don't say anything at all. Andrew...keep on, buddy! We love your enthusiasm and diligence!
Andrew you do great work. Not only you fix it but you also make it look nice, not to many people will do that. Also I wonder who picks out the music for the videos it's much better than watching a sped up video with no sound. Did you ever take lessons in podcasting ? You do great work.
Andrew you said "people would say it's not deep enough". Maybe so but who are we to question your work. You know what your doing. I'm sure some of us here don't even know how to work a hand shovel. I was a laborer years ago I did everything from laying pipe to building walls and laying asphalt. etc I've never seen one man do it all till I started watching your videos. I had an uncle with your skills. Unfortunately he never got his company off the ground.
"Maybe so but who are we to question your work." Might blow your mind to know that a lot of people with decades of experience in this watch this channel. Very shocking. Andrew didn't appear from the gods. He learned from others as well as experience. Its wise to listen to others and test. So stop trying to stop that process if you dont know either way. having said that, the people that have not done this should pipe down, pardon the pun.
Andrew ,I have total respect for your Work ethic ,Can and will do attitude and an infectiously good attitude towards life in general . We,ve installed 1000s of meters of Twin wall ribbed pipe ,Drainage ,Ducting and mammal passage crossings under busy roads . Trust me it's not indestructible. Andrew Camarata oops don’t tell Levi I messed up lol
Yeah, well they are all the same color.
Ha! I was thinking the same thing. Confusion cleared up.
Thorough and Complete!! like you style Andrew. Nice job
Congrats.
Good job. Happy Thanksgiving Andrew, and everyone else too!!
Congratulations on a 100,000 subs happy Thanksgiving Andrew
I appreciate the follow up several weeks later included in the same video.
It's always a nice touch.
Great work.
Thank you for sharing your amazing video. God bless you and your family
Happy Thanksgiving! Congratulations on the 100k subs, well deserved Andrew...
..... that was a great party !!!
A master at spreading gravel. you make it look so easy, and I suspect it's not so easy
Thanks for a great video
I'm surprised this video doesn't have more views. It's one of my favorites. The great ones always make it look easy
Nice couple loads of 2-3" rock...then a top-off of 1" crushed limestone... Perfecto !!
I like the way you held the pipe down as you back filled.
Nice job, your workmanship is worthy of praise!
That's really cool that you take so much pride in your work. Came out really clean and I like how you put the rocks back. Awesome job
Another Video by Adventures with Andrew...." Bloody Well Done "
We need to make a parking area on a muddy lawn ...can we directly lay gravel, or does it need some kind of underlay?
Professor Simon Holland dig the topsoil our lay in a load of stones aboit the size of your fist then over that lay gravel and your good to go
You are better off putting some road fabric down first under the gravel. It will keep the gravel from sinking into the mud and ultimately save you money because you wont be buying gravel as often. Here it is here: amzn.to/2Kpg2QU
Andrew Camarata thanks Andrew....that’s what I thought. I’ll make a short film about the project.
@@jacobkorn7153 Would it be OK to just lay the 2 grades of stone over fabric without removing the top soil?
I would suggest at least 8" of stone on top of textile material.. Removing topsoil first will allow you to get the final elevation you need. I would also suggest renting a small compactor. Compact in 2 or 3 layers. Will prevent uneven settling or grooves. Also important to grade to prevent standing water. A flat parking area is a recipe for potholes!
You are certainly an expert operator with all your equipment. That stone arch was dead-on, I would have thought it was hand-made.
You do a great job, Andrew. Thanks for your excellent camera work and time lapse editing.
That stone spread with the truck backwards was awesome !! Your my hero dude!!!
me: it's not de-
"everyone on youtube is gonna say it's not deep enough"
-_-
Lets wait for a bigger Vehicle :D
Jude Chauhan that’s what she said
Specs for that team come for a minimum of 12 inches of cover not even close I’m sorry that it’s a very poor installation
dyke the water off than dig the pipe to grade and actually check the grade so the pipe is not bowed. deeper would be good also but may not be possible to get drainage. 2 12 inch pipe would work better for getting more cover.

Great job Andrew! Enjoy all you do!appreciate you sharing and taking time!
Love to come back and watch your videos when I'm needing that extra kick to go get at it. You deserve all the success that comes your way brother. You've earned it.
Andrew, you're an artist. awesome channel, great content. good work, sir.
very good job I'm a big fan of everything you do, keep it up😃
Looks good that pipe is heavy duty and will see how it holds up the over time.
Nice to see how you solve problems. Good job Andrew.
yesss! :D i'll be back after the vid :P. Edit: great vid, that fixed the flooding problem right some good ! :)
Good job on the 100,000 subs! Happy Thanksgiving!
I watch all your videos Andrew. You do a fantastic job and maintain all your equipment well. Keep up the good work!
Fine job by my standards, she should be mighty pleased !
Those pipes are actually pretty strong my dad drove over one on accident with a 9 ton dump truck
Very nice work. The gravel job at the end was the icing on the cake. What a sweet driveway.
Awesome rock arrangement! You just made it fit!
Andrew you do great work. Not only you fix it but you also make it look nice, not to many people will do that. Also I wonder who picks out the music for the videos it's much better than watching a sped up video with no sound. Did you ever take lessons in podcasting ? You do great work.
@Amped Amped He does make some good tunes choices, though.
happy holidays to you and your family andrew, and to all your viewers too ;)
Big difference from before till now water is moving much better. Good job Andrew.
Happy New year.
Another great job completed Andrew thanks for sharing 👍

ayyyyye, I live in CT as well. Land of the taxes!
Love the channel and keep the Videos coming . Love from Britian 👍👍
Andrew - you take pride in your work, leave when it's done right. Good job as usual.
