50 Years ago I was an 18 year old from Queens NY. This movie, in my opinion, is at the top of the all time greatest list. It was a much different time in our Country. Michael, It is a pleasure to listen to you. Getting this insight from a guy who lived it. From one Italian American to another. God Bless You And Your Family
My first exposure to The Godfather was when I was 18. Just dropped out of university and I was lost. When I saw the movie, I truly felt the passion of Italian Americans and how it relates to Latinos and our American Dream but I connected with Vito because he was a great father. Better than mine and the lessons I learned forced me to take action and be independent as much as I can.
It's really impressive how you talk about the lifestyle, without glorifying it. It's better to learn from other's mistakes, and adapt those lessons. I know I really enjoyed the Godfather films, and the true stories behind it make it so much more interesting.
My favorite movie of all time. I haven't watched it in a couple years, but if I sat down and watched it right now I could probably still recite each line along with it. I've always had at least one Godfather poster on my wall since I was a kid. Such an iconic film.
I watched this movie for the first time at 13, almost 20 years ago. My parents always told me that movies and music were art and I was a good enough kid to not emulate what I saw or heard in movies or music. That being said, the godfather is my second favorite movie of all time, scarface being my favorite. I liked al in scarface, but his portrayal of Michael Corleone is what actually made me fall in love with the man's work.
No one, and I literally mean no one, has ever seen any movie anywhere near the amount of times I watched the Godfather. I LOVE that movie. The house used in the movie, where Vito lived, is an actual house on Staten Island. My grandfather built that house. Being from Italy, my grandfather hated that movie, and how he hated they used a house he built for that movie. In an interview with Francis Ford Coppola, the reason they chose that house was because he felt it looked like the type of house an Italian family would want to live in. I remember laughing when I heard that comment, thinking my grandfather hated they used that house and the only reason they used it was because how he built it.
@cool guy from 2007 I Drove by the house, but I was never inside. I remember them filming the movie, I was just a kid. My neighbor had a few bit scenes in the movie, and Marlon Brando. Al Pacino, & James Caan drove him home a few times.
A great line in the movie that I think captures the essence of a mafioso that is generally overlooked. “It makes no difference to me what a man does for a living.”
godfather was a masterpiece you know when it's real, when the actors manage to get under the skin of one, so that it feels real ⭐ its a blessing that I can share my excitement with you Michael, a man who has his finger on the pulse, and who have known people I have only seen, through the films, as well as documentaries. ,The internet brings people closer together and it is marvelous and wonderful just important people always remember to live in the present, and be present for their loved ones.. I was able to see The Godfather in a movie theater a month ago as part of the 50th Anniversary of its release. I was 1 year old when the movie was originally released, so I only saw it on video prior to that. Seeing it on the big screen was well worth it. The Godfather, Parts I and II, are the two best movies ever made in my opinion. Thanks for pointing out the similarities with real life, Michael!
Michael, I don’t remember how many times I saw The Godfather, but it is one of those movies that if I am watching TV and changing channels, if I come across it, many times I will leave it on and watch it. It didn’t matter how far into the movie, I would see it through to the end.
Most certainly one of my favorite films and fifty years since it was made it's held in such high regard. Thank you Michael for this and of course, all of your other video.
I remember my parents took me to see it when it came out. I was only twelve but for some reason, I was able to convince them to take me. My mother was fascinated with the book, and I still have the first edition today, looking like it was never read.
I was eight years old when this masterpiece came out and I remember the commercials and the ads that were playing on TV back then and I was hooked and wanted to see it badly. I’m familiar with that culture and I would go to the local library and listen to the soundtrack on vinyl with headphones….both sides…every other day as a release from my craving!😎
I can't believe it's been 50 years! I was 6 when it came out. My parents and uncle and aunt went to see it, and we sat home with a babysitter. This is a timeless movie, and one of, if not THE best!

*"NEVER MEET, DEAL WITH OR TALK TO MOBSTERS"* .That was the rule Francis Ford Coppola (the greatest director ever. Apocalypse Now, Godfathers, Rumble Fish) and Godfather author and fellow screenwriter, Mario Puzo, specifically said they lived by. Puzo based the Godfather on his Italian mother and never met a mobster when he wrote it. Coppola and him turned down drinks, meals and meetings with everyone from Columbo to John Gotti. In fact John Gotti came to the set and Francis refused to meet him. They did not want their story tainted by interaction. The story was based solely from their mind and loose research. I love this video Michael, loved being on the call with you this morning hearing your personal thoughts on the Godfather. Very special opportunity and I thank you for the opportunity to hear your thoughts on the call. This is my favorite mob movie, followed by a close tie of Goodfellas and Casino. I go back and forth between those two. Favorite quote I posted today, one of my personal life quotes - in the garden- I will not be a puppet on a string - whatever it takes. God bless!
I’m 54 and have read everything I could about the mob and the different people involved since I was a kid . Ironically until about a year ago I had never seen The Godfather even though I had heard about it for decades.
@MichaelFranzese: I did not know that about Don Vito Genovese, that is very Interesting!, about Lucky Luciano, I did because I did Read about his Life where He stayed there halfway through his Life for being convicted and that is where He died in Italy.
You can tell Michael's been working out! Got the bicep veins! Looking good! And while it's not my favorite movie, I do respect & appreciate The Godfather. It was stellar filmmaking. Also, I can't see a cannoli & not think about "Leave the gun. Take the cannoli."
A fascinating presentation of movie history, Michael. Although Joe Colombo did personally get involved in the making of The Godfather, in my opinion, he made it better. The movie does tend to glamorize the Life, but because the film took the point of view of The Family, that decision was a sound one. One other interesting fact about The Godfather that many people don't know was that author Mario Puzi did not personally know any people in the Life when he wrote the book and all of his material was drawn from secondary sources, such as published accounts, and so forth. In many ways, The Godfather is one case where the film was better than the book. Mario worked with Francis to improve the story, arc, action, and dialogue, so they had that opportunity to improve on the book. But I believe another reason the film was better than the book was that Mario, Francis, and several of the actors did get to meet and work with people from the Life, lending greater authenticity to the final film.
The movie was MUCH better than the book, primarily because the book spent a lot of useless time developing the character of Johnny Fontaine. One of Johnny's girlfriends was getting vaginal reconstructive surgery and about 1/5 of the book spent time on that. A total waste of time that the movie script chose to ignore.
@@danmcn61 You don’t believe that 40 minutes of screen time devoted to the condition of Lucy Mancini’s twat wouldn’t have improved the movie? You must be an insensitive caveman. 😔😔
@@pheunithpsychic-watertype9881 I actually liked that storyline how the doctor fixes Johnny's throat as well as Michael's face and the aforementioned giant vagina. They both played a part in the move to Vegas which I thought worked out well. It's curious whether this storyline would have gotten cut without the Columbo connection which according to The Offer cutting down Sinatra's part in the movie was a requirement.
I remember sitting in my soon-to-be first car reading “The Godfather” because my Mother wouldn’t allow me to see the movie. She didn’t know I had the book. Needless to say, I finished it and Loved it. Fast forward 10 years and I saw the movie too!
While I agree on 1 and 2, after all, they both won best picture... it "can" make 3 , pale in comparison. But as a standalone movie, it was good- not great- but good enough. The character developments of all involved was interesting, as was the tie in, to the Catholic church. I didn't mind it, like so many do.
I have watched all the Godfather movies but the first one is the best in my opinion. I love listening to your stories, incredible insight, and intelligence concerning the movies and how they relate to real life events! You are one highly intelligent and intersting man! The Godfather films are sort of a rite of passage. Everyone has to see it once, and when they do, they'll have a new perspective on life by the end. I watched it with a group of friends many years ago who have never seen it, and we talked about what we took away from it all the way until morning.
I've lived, loved, avoided danger and built businesses based on my takeaway from this movie. It's my favorite of all time by far. The lessons have taught me so much it's incredible. So little of that felt like acting to me. It's like you were there watching a family in that life try to move forward and were awarded cliff notes on life's best practices from the wisdom of others in the process. Outstanding.

@@danmcn61 and the only payoff it amounts to is that Johnny knows said doctor to fix Michael's face. It's like a rube Goldberg machine of a joke.
Hands down the Godfather is definitely the best movie ever made, I don't get tired of watching the movie thru the year's over and over and over!
I’m same way. I LOVE this movie
I remember sitting in my soon-to-be first car reading “The Godfather” because my Mother wouldn’t allow me to see the movie. She didn’t know I had the book. Needless to say, I finished it and Loved it. Fast forward 10 years and I saw the movie too!
Always appreciate and respect your content Mr Franzese!
Thank you. I was so looking forward to this video after your survey yesterday.
This definitely the best movie of all time!! Thanks for the insight! Have a good one!!!!
Hey Michael! Great video!! I hope you have a great weekend my friend. God Bless from The Bronx 👊🙏🇺🇸
It was a great movie. Loved the 2nd Godfather film too. Godfather 3 was an abomination though
@@tonkatrucker I thought the concept of bringing the Vatican in was genius it just didn't work out.
One of the greatest movies ever made! Hands down! Love your channel Mr Franzese!
Great show ..once more . Much Peace ✌️
you are simply AMEZING dear brother Michael !
'The Godfather', No 1 film of all time and I read the book before the film came out. Michael, your family is also the best; So Good!
One of my all time favorites!
I am astonished with all the facts!
I am happy for you are blessed with a beautiful life!

Always the BEST CONTENT IN THE GENRE!!!!
Great content, love you Michael, looking forward to next time.
YOU ARE SIMPLY THE BEST, MR. FRANZESE!🙌🏼
Hit me up👆.
I have something to share with you📊📈..
Awesome Work, Thanks 👍👍 Greetings from Helsinki, Finland 🇫🇮🇺🇸🇫🇮🇺🇸🇫🇮🇺🇸
I have watched all the Godfather movies but the first one is the best in my opinion. I love listening to your stories, incredible insight, and intelligence concerning the movies and how they relate to real life events! You are one highly intelligent and intersting man! Stay safe and God Bless you, Michael Franzese!
The third was the best
@@zenodotusofathens2122 That's a matter of opinion! The first ones are always the best that is why they have sequels!
@@sandyRndisco1 OK. If you agree it's a matter of opinion how do you then say the first ones are always the best. 😂🤣😂
@@zenodotusofathens2122 First, of all I was talking to Michael not you. Second, since you had to make your comeback that you thought the third was the best that is when I stated it was a matter of opinion! I just happen to think the first one was the best but I did watch all of them! Third, I don't think we should be arguing over such petty subjects on Michael's channel. I am sure he didn't bring the subject up to start an argument. So just let it go in Jesus' name.
@@sandyRndisco1 This is You Tube not the Queens Court at Buckingham palace with arcane rules of etiquette. 😂🤣.
I am not offending anyone here, just stating my opinion and pointing out the obvious logical flaw in your statement.
You apparently have very thin skin. I would suggest You Tube may not be the place for highly sensitive and touchy people.
Also speak for yourself...not for Michael. If I have committed some high crime or misdemeanor Michael will let me know where he thinks I have transgressed. Until that time suck it up.
Love your channel Michael
I am so obsessed with you and your content. You’re an absolutely beautiful miracle and testimony to what God can do in someone’s life. Also, your life is a living legend. So interesting, so unique. I am so grateful for your content. And you couldn’t be more good looking if you tried. Just a complete delight.

Fascinating insight into the greatest film of all time. Thank you👌
The Great Franzese talking The Godfather…..I’m all in !!!!
@@michaelfranzese Thank you. I most certainly will. God Bless 🙏 from Buckinghamshire England.
Thanks for another vid Michael! Always interested in what you gotta say 👍🏼
The Godfather is a classic! Thanks for another enjoyable video Mr. Franzese!
Hi Michael, thanks as usual for your input.. After 50 years the "The Godfather" doesn't get old by a long shot. I loved the movie then and still do today. A classic movie and coming from Brooklyn, well what can I say? I've must have watch it enough to memorize the dialogue. Take care and God Bless! Ciao
Always epic sit downs ! Keep up the good work
Love how you always praise God. I’m Muslim but this is one of many things we have in common.
Oh damn. How am I just now noticing that Michael did a video for the 50th anniversary of The Godfather. Can't wait to watch!!!
"Godfather" was great! I was a little kid when it came out. I saw it for the first time on TV in the early 70s. The sequel was just as good--if not better--than the original, which is unusual for a sequel. I loved Godfather III, too!
Grazie. I'm enjoying this so very much.
The Godfather--50 years!!! A cinema classic!!! Thank you for sharing the insight. Just one question Clemenza's sauce recipe whose recipe is that? I've used it so many times and there is never a drop left!!!
I love the godfather movies all three!!!
And I love this podcast.
Michael I love your story, redemption!!!
The Godfather was a lifechanger. It was the FIRST rated R movie I ever watched under the age of 12. Secondly, it and Godfather II were the ONLY FILMS I could stay up and watch on a school night. Matter of fact, my dad MADE ME watch it on a school night every time it came on network television. "THIS is HISTORY." he would say.
RIP, Dad. I will pass this tradition I got from you to my children as well.
Love the channel god bless you Michael and your wife and family
God bless you Michael !!
I saw The Godfather when it first came out! It blew me away. I have lost count on how many times I have seen it!
Again, love the first hand knowledge, especially on such an iconic film. Hoping to find your wine here in New Zealand ❤
Thanks Michael and for sharing your faith
Hard to believe it has been 50 years . I saw both Godfather 1 and 2 at the Theatre with my Dad, some quality Father/Son time together. Both are special to me , thinking back being with my Dad .
Great video and breakdown. My favorite film.
The legend is back!🔥🔥🔥🔥. T

I moved to NYC from Arkansas in 1976 to the Upper West Side. My apartment had 2 rest rooms, one having the old time water box with pull chain !
Beautiful family Michael . I loved the Godfather, it was an epic movie on a grand scale.
We appreciate the content, long may it continue.
Keep doing the good work Mr franzese 👍.. which part of the godfather you love !!! Thank you Michael 🇮🇹👍
Ah terrific video Michael, really enjoyed it and it was as you said, one of the greatest films 🎥 ever made, if not the greatest.
Thanks for another interesting and informative video
