I have a MK4 Golf, 1.6 petrol, 105 hp. My speedo is very accurate, +1 kph at any speed compared to the GPS. No surprizes here with this car.
@@RK1FX well 17 with a 205 40,...yeah it's small by today standarts...but the speedo is really accurate...i have a 1.6hdi and it as +/- 1km/h to gps...so...mine when going 220km/h normaly others are doing over 230 on the speedo...
You do not need even 180 HP to feel like a race driver :) The cleanest interior I have ever seenwith new steering wheel leather, owner really loves his car :)

That would make a fine replacement for my first car when I'll be able to afford it. Its got most of the things I want and not many that I don't need. And my dad would approve of it, which is important, since he would be the one repairing it. I got two left hands when it comes to cars.
That's exactly what I replaced my first car with. It's perfect for my needs. Decent performances and still daily drivable. Even run mine on E85 so not much gas cost as well. I really love this car but boy! if you intend to repare it yourself be prepared for long hours of crying. Everything is thight, hard bolted, impossible to get off... You have to be 3 people pulling on some parts to get them off while it would just fall when you unbolt it on another standard car.
I've spend hours in the rain and dark trying to fix things left and right. Biggest suffering was the suspension parts... But all of this was worth the effort.

RC's are getting more rare and expensive. Honestly its way cheaper to buy a gti and do a couple engine mods if you can do that.

Had a Peugeot 206 GTI for a year and a half, sadly this end of the summer I got hit and the repair would be too expensive. Still amazing car, I had the bad luck of buying a really badly maintained vehicle. Never the less really loved the little guy gave it a straight pipe and it was screaminggg.
You didn't have bad luck. Old Peugeots overheat alot so if you drive them alot after overeating the head gasket will broke and cooling water will go through your oil.
The oil will lose viscosity and you brake your bearing. 😑
The repair costs alot considering that repairing a Peugeot is a mission impossible 🥲

In the Netherlands the regular model was very popular. Many of them you will see drive around.
So not that underrated. The GTI was not that special and a has been a little forgotten between the Polo GTI and Clio RS models.
So they are more known as a decent affordable car without expecting sporty performance.

I passed my driving test at 17 in 2008 and really wanted one of these.
I am 34 now. Looking at porsches what i might buy. But mannnn this was my dream car back in the days. Especially because of need for speed underground 🤣 now i am reconsidering buying one of these for fun a couple months and then resell it.

So the exhaust really is restricting. I've got a deleted middle muffler and an aftermarked end muffler on mine and I managed to get it to 235, almost hitting the rev limiter.
Why would you want to drive 235 with such a car?
@@Jeroensgambling Only did it once to know its top speed. Unless you're on a track there is no point driving so fast anyway
@@benjidu78440 Top speed is relative, and a track is'nt the place either to go top. Ive bin there, from a Golf VR6 wanting it to be faster and owning a RS4 B5 with 500HP. World of difference if you ask me. Bottompoint if you want to go fast grab something thats designed for it.
@@Jeroensgambling I see your point but we don't all have enough money to buy a "designed race car" and I don't have any use for a 500hp car, although I'd love to own one. I rarely go fast but it's nice to have a car that can do so when asked while being practical on a day to day basis. You can argue that's exactly what an RS4 does, yes on a bigger scale. It also drinks way more fuel.
I didn't bought this car because it can go 200+, I bought it because it's fun to drive. Being able to go 200+ is just a bonus that I only used once.
@@Jeroensgambling not everyone here is able to buy an RS series audi with 500+ hp. Pretty pointless of you to come up with all this "Want speed? Get a car that's made for it" argument just to be able to brag about the cars you can afford to own. No one is interested.

206 RC is perfect daily drive car for make you smile every time you drove it except fuel consumption. =) At least mine was perfect daily / work car over 8 years. Now its sitting in garage for WRC and turbo conversion.

I have a 206 2.0l HDI remapped and lowered and it's such a hoot to drive around the windy back roads, deffo not a track car imo.

I bought the 206 1.6 GTi at 19 and now after 2 years I started to enjoy it more and more while i learned it fully i can say its something near to RC but with less power,for 18 years old car i have it like new outside and inside.
@@Unloosedscc my fathers 306 1.6 never showed any problem and still goes fine at 217.000km,sometimes it depends how we use it or how the previous owner used it.
I have a 2.0 GTI/S16 138bhp, my first car... Sadly I'll have to get rid of it sooner or later since old ICE cars are being banned where I live 😞

I remember this car being very popular here
Its really a good and forgiving entry into performance cars on a budget for young drivers. It’s very forgiving and has decent security. I think it’s as fast as a 150ps 2.0 tdi.

i own a 140ps 2.0 tdi, this seems way faster, but less torque ofc. i wouldnt compare the two engines cuz one is a daily driver and the other is a sport variant.

i had an seat ibiza with the 1.9TDI totally stock. with only 130hp, he had more than that top speed. i believe something is wrong with these 177hp of the rc

It looks a fun drive. I nearly bought one of these but ended up with a Clio 182 and loved that instead
I had to chose between the 206 and the Clio when I wanted to replace my 1.4hdi 206. What really made me chose the 206 is the interior. Renaults interior are bad and look cheap, everything is missplaced in it. The 206 is more practical and as I already had one I knew I liked the driving position. But the Clio is still a great rival on the track

i have a 208 gti with 1.6 turbocharged, but... sometime i would like to drive this 2.0 without turbo !
Something is wrong, that vmax is the gti 136ps not the rc, uphill maybe or Something else... Strange
For a 2.0 with 180hp weird it doesnt even reach 220...seems fast until 170/180 then it just "stops"...
Gearing, engine probably looses power fast after 6k rpm.... should have bought a honda lol

Could be that this example's speedo is extremely accurate. Some would show 230+ while actually being travelling at the exact same speed

This dude has balls. 210km/h in a small 206. I not sure how the engine did not blow out. I like the car stylish but definitely is not reliable engine
This engine is pretty reliable (ew10j4s), actually it has some common parts with the engine used in 206 wrc car that period. It has a bigger oil cooler than the "normal" versions, and it has a much bigger oil capacity (5,5+ liters vs. 3,8-4,2 liters), and also the camshafts, pistons* different, and the water coolant holes are bigger than a stock car. It's made for high revs, it's made for fun ;)

Yeah, I thought that too! Especially when comparing it to my own Peugeot 206 1.6L petrol 100hp, it felt like the only difference that was notable (to me) was the higher gears giving a bit more speed but not much

I really like this car! It handles so well and this one loods very good.
However, I am a bit dissapointed about the performance. 215 km/h top speed is too low... it must be 225 from factory.
