    The information boards have been updated at central with the station map showing the metro platforms and an updated sydney trains network map

    Bit annoying how metro platforms are 26 and 27, but they’re situated between 14 and 16. Obviously you can’t call them 15a and 15b, but it’ll be confusing for firstcomers and tourists

    Excellent update, Phil and I actually enjoyed the walk around from the Grand Concourse tram stop to "the balcony," where in years gone by, there was a huge staircase to Eddie Avenue. I am surprised that you didn't get a coffee from CJ's or give them a shout-out as they have been there for more than 40 years. I noticed the doors off the balcony to the abandoned "refreshment room," which should be reopened and named "platform 15" to retain the now defunct platform 15. Great video, Phil, without the usual tile inspections 😂

      Thank you John!
      Ooooh i heard that there was a staircase somewhere!
      Was it near where the escalators are now?
      I’ll have to find photo’s.
      A bar named Platform 15 would be cool with a mockup train car inside :)

    I can’t believe the metro has opened. This should have been done years ago. Now that 26 and 27 are being used it feels like central has finally been completed to the original design.
    Bradfield would have been excited that his dream has finally come true. It only Took 100 years.

    Hi Phil, thanks for another great video. It is amazing that where the light rail comes into Central Station, I can still remember seeing the former trams there quite well, which actually ceased running in late 1957. I must have visited the area regularly, as I was only five years old back then. I remember my dad taking me into the city on day outings, which sometimes included getting off the train at Central. The former trams at Central, used to run in the reverse direction to the current light rail trams. Anyway, take care. Rob in Melbourne Australia.

    Anyone who comes across another CZcamsr named Neil Forbes he hates the term light rail he thinks its a BS term because using the name Tram is tried and true but there is a difference between a tram and light rail and this is what i was trying to explain to him Generally, tram systems operate in a mixed traffic environment (road / rail / pedestrian) and are required to operate safely at speeds for which driver braking is acceptable. Light Rail systems are generally segregated. Segregation permits higher operating speeds using signal control and automatic braking systems.

    • @flamingfrancis
      @flamingfrancis Před 28 dny +3

      He is correct to a point in that these Light Rails operate in and amongst traffic and pedestrians in a few areas. We have already seen accidents between them and road traffic. In Paris, where there are 13 systems, they are referred to as trams even though they are running more in their own corridors

    • @aussiejohn5835
      @aussiejohn5835 Před 28 dny +3

      @top40researcher31 Neil is correct with his terminology, and the only reason they are not referred to as "trams" are the lollypop signs that have already been used for "T" trains. The "L" is used for the trams to avoid confusion and, therefore, referred to as Light Rail.

    • @sydneytrainsvlogs
      @sydneytrainsvlogs  Před 28 dny +1

      Lol yes i sometimes get flack so i just alternate between calling them Trams and Light Rail even though there is a difference.

    I still feel they botched the design of the North Concourse, very cold and sterile with all the stark white and grey that doesn't compliment the sandstone and brick of the historic buildings.
    Meanwhile in Central Walk they've struck a perfect balance between the white panels, warm sandstone and grey tiles/concrete.

    • @sydneytrainsvlogs
      @sydneytrainsvlogs  Před 28 dny +1

      Agreed! Central Walk feels more welcoming and not like a hospital haha
      I still do like the North Concourse but not as much as Central Walk.
      There is something else that will be happening to Central which i will cover in coming weeks
