The minigame with the lava and the spinning stick, being at any of the distances from the center to the end of the spinning stick does not make any difference in the time you have to jump it. It has to do with the fact that the rotational velocity of any point on the stick is always the same. While it may seem like you have more time, you really always have the same.
I think the difference is when you are at the end, it'll be easier for you to time your jumps
