I've been discussing VR and AR with a few friends and wanted to share some thoughts on where I think Magic Leap went wrong and what the future of AR could look like. I really want to see these devices become widely adopted and would love to know what anyone else thinks could help adoption.
I was unfortunate to work for a company that did a bit of business with them. All I will say is observing that experience taught me to collect as much money as possible up front from clients either cash in hand, or through a rock solid contract.
Only one anecdote, but it was very interesting to see the media articles come out explaining the situation of how they were yet another company selling a concept of a product and just crossing their fingers that the engineering team would be able to meet the promises made by the marketing teams.
Be curious revisiting this now that Apple Vision has been announced
They have magic leap 2 and it makes rest of the ar products look like a joke
The vision of Magic Leap is still alive. If the iPhone brought computers into our pockets, spatial computing will make them disappear. Computing units will exist in the cloud, and the space itself will become both a display and an interface at the same time, so hardware will become immaterial and software will become tangible matter.
Excellent video. I’ve been following this company for a long time. Great breakdown!
Thanks a lot! Glad you liked it. I’m really excited for AR to become a reality. It seems like Apple is working really hard on it and when all of the tech companies are competing the technology will really accelerate.
But he ended up being wrong about magic leap
I can see a huge improvement in your most recent content from this one; it's truly inspiring! Lately I've been listening to your videos more podcast style, i.e. I'm not watching the actual video, and I feel like the content is well researched and engaging! You have a pleasant voice to listen to, and have great audio. Please keep it up!
That is extremely interesting to hear. I wonder if that means I could make longer and more detailed videos but with less editing. Something to think about.
@@JohnCooganPlus TechLead mentioned that his recent videos include less B-roll and editing because half of his viewers don't even look at his video, rather they listen to his content like a pure audio. Which makes sense, since his audience is techies who play his videos during their commute or when doing chores.
@@CharlesWeill that’s really interesting to hear. Definitely going to take that into account for future videos.
@@CharlesWeillso true
I had such high hopes for magic leap. What a huge let down.
AR isn't going anywhere. People think it's going to be APV that ushers in the new era, but it isn't. It's going to be companies like Nreal and Viture with there slim-lined displays. Most likely, they'll move into partnerships with Samsung and other companies to create more intricate and versatile HMD's. We can't forget Visor, either. We're not quite there in this space to allow for devices like magic leap and hololens to run the show. It's just too expensive. What we will see however is supplement devices that will accomplish half of what they do, and I think that people can accept that for the time being.
the good thing is its on ebay for only 199$ so its now consumer friendly, i get my weeks ago and its really great, sometimes little buggy but easy to fix with a simple rescan of the room or using another position.
Really is itm
I have been having issues actually setting up the one I brought, simply won't register it apparently its a known issue so I need to go and flash the Lumin OS myself, quite the faff I must say
@@robertmitchell5835what did you buy???
I heard its completely unusable now. Is that true?
@@FlockofSmeagles my magic leap one still works without problems, maybe the store gives no updates but my apps still work good. just played a round dr.grodborts robot invasion, 120fps with handtracking with all the portals and scanning in own home is still a arcade like experience even use it with my normal glasses under.
Thanks for this video! Helped in my research tremendously.
Awesome! Glad it could help!
Very good points, but just the presence of the iPhone when it first came out. It was like an alien technology. It was obvious things would change from there on.
Here watching this thinking about the value of the Apple Vision Pro
$2,500,000,000 spent (of other people's money) before a single sale......
You can't use the googles as an external monitor because they can only up to 720p
You can't use them as smartphone because it's easier to interact with a touchscreen
You can't use them at work because the marketing if too focused on gaming so employees won't adopt it
watched 3 of your videos now on the bounce. Good content esp the epic games vid and the Peter teil antitrust one. Good enough for a sub, so I did just that. You only have 3,600 subs as of right now, glad to add myself to the list, I like getting in early :)
Glad to have you on board! Thanks for letting me know what videos you like most. It’s always helpful to hear what people like.
@@JohnCooganPlus No worries, I'm thinking that if you keep up the good work, you could 100x your subs in maybe as little as 18months, good luck.
Love your content
what makes this a good overview?
With an atomtronic SQUID portability was promising
uncomfortable composition, too much head, too little background
Totally agree. Would love your opinion on one of my more recent videos. I’ve tried to improve as much as possible, but any notes are always welcome.
@@JohnCooganPlus my tip, just look at others how they do it, copy their style to the smallest detail and then build your own upon that.
Glass has no field of view its shit
What????
