  • I'm off on a new extended travel for 2 months. Today's my first day and I'm traveling to Saigon with a 14 hour layover in Taipei. It's also an overnight layover.
Combined, the travel day is 31 hours, but luckily, the 14 hrs layover in Taipei will give me the opportunity to go out into the city and visit a couple night markets, the Raohe and Shilin Night Markets. I try all types of delicious street foods.
When the market closes, I return to Taoyuan International Airport at 1:30am and sleep at one of the many comfortable benches until I can checkin and leave for Saigon. What a day!
    Come get lost with me!

CAMERA & AUDIO EQUIPMENT I USE:
Primary Camera: GoPro Hero 8 Black (7 Black for this video) ► amzn.to/2XYwrEe
Secondary Camera: Apple iPhone XS Max ► amzn.to/2B35lD2
    Microphone: Rode VideoMicro ► amzn.to/2XV87Di
Mic Adapter: GoPro 3.5mm Mic Adapter ► amzn.to/2Yus8Q5
REASONING: It's taken me some time to figure what I need to make the travel videos I like. I've not had any photography or videography training; so I've not gotten into higher end mirrorless or full framed cameras. I try to keep my equipment as simple as possible. 85% of the time, I film with my GoPro Hero 8 Black, and I recently began using the Rode VideoMicro for my audio, which I use to record voiceovers as well. Occasionally I use my iPhone XS Max to change things up or when an extra camera is needed.
    GOPRO ACCESSORIES:

Mouth Grip: GoPole Chomps - Hands-Free Mouth Mount ► amzn.to/37pbZzz
Underwater Grip: Movo GB-U70 Underwater Diving Rig ► amzn.to/3cZH3XR
Pole/Stand: Smatree S3C Carbon Fiber Detachable Extendable Floating Pole with Tripod Stand ► amzn.to/2XUIVg2
    Lighting: Litra Torch 2.0 & LitraPro ► amzn.to/3fltGTu / amzn.to/2MQKlSF
Lense ND Filter: K&F Concept 52mm Fader ND Filter Neutral Density Variable Filter ► amzn.to/2UEAXFI
Battery Charger: TELESIN 2-Pack Replacement Batteries and Waterproof Allin Box Charger ► amzn.to/2zqAeRc
Power Bank: RAVPower 26800mAh Portable Charger ► amzn.to/2XXq444
Carrying Case: Large Carrying Case for GoPro Hero ► amzn.to/37nt6BQ
REASONING: I enjoy using GoPro cameras. The GoPro Hero 5 Black was my first action camera and liked the ease of using it. It also helps that it's rugged and can take a beating. I'm not too good with fragile things and lots of cameras are fragile; not to mention expensive. And those are the reasons why I began using it instead a traditional camera. Since then, GoPro cameras have have become more sophisticated and with the right setup, vlogging can be easy and fun. Also, I tend to go for extended travel and traveling light is an important factor. I currently have two GoPros, the GoPro Hero 7 Black and 8 Black; so my 7 now acts as my underwater camera.

Hi David, I really enjoyed watching your video! Next month, I'll be having a 23-hour layover in Taiwan, 8:55pm to 8:05pm the next day, and I was wondering how long did it take you to get to the night market from when you got off the plane? I was planning on trying to go right when I get off the plane, but have enough time to catch public transportation back to the airport as well. Thanks!

Hi David, thank you for your lovely video and great tips. Can I please ask you some questions about the layover, because I'm going over to Taiwan next month. 1) When you enter Taiwan do you need to pay any fee? visa fee or country tax? because my airline said it might change me about AUD 20 for a country tax. 2) when you get back to the airport where to stay? is T1 the departure terminal? 3) is all the shops open 24hrsly? 4)do you have to wait till the next day to check in? or have they already given you the boarding pass? Thank you so much. Look forward to your reply 1

Hi David! This is a very informative and very helpful for my trip in March. I was wondering if you can help me with some questions of mine. (1) do you have to get your checked in luggage even though you have a connecting flight? Doesn’t EVA keep the luggage until your next flight? (2) what is the max you can store your luggage in the lockers? I think I saw someone’s video that shows the max hours is 3 but it seems you were out more than 3 hours? Thank you so much
