I'm curious, how long/many hours were on it before you had to replace the starter? I think I'm have problems with my BX-25 starter which is 16 years old and 550 hours. I removed that "hot" shield to access the top mounting bolt for the starter. I don't know how else you would access it.

@@LetsFigureThisOut I solved the problem on my BX-25. It wasn't the starter but that dang safety switch for the PTO. That switch is sneaky. It loosens up, then slides backward away from the bar that engages it. Thank you for you reply. By the way, the dealer told me that a new starter for the BX-25 is $500! They also sell rebuilt ones for $200.

I have a bx2230 and the starter mounting plate broke off yesterday. Do you if i have to remove flywheel to replace starter plate? Tia
