After spending nearly 1 year of my life in the Philippines, I have noticed several wacky things about Filipino culture. Here are 5 of them that stand out to me the most about Filipino Culture!
Do you have anything else to add to this list about the way of life in the Philippines?
P.S. This video is not intended to be rude or offensive -- it's made out of pure good intentions. As many of you know, the Philippines is my favorite country in the world and my second home!

cough cough streotypicial Filipino cough
you tell yourself your introvert, so you are just making yourself one.
Im socially awkward but its actually hard being able to stay alone here, i dont usually strike up conversations first but its easy to get along with someone.. sa totoo lang mas mahirap maging introvert kesa sa extrovert para sakin hahahah
Hi
Lol
I didn't know spoon and fork is weird
levitator45 hahaha you're really pinoy
I really thought using a spoon for eating solid food was normal Until now
Alangan naman we eat rice with a knife
Kapag kumakain kami sa fancy resto ganun akođ€Łđ
+levitator45 you do 0.0
how even
The last one actually is really us Filipino. we didn't mean anything bad when we ask stuff like that. it's like a normal comment to a friend. but yah in other nationality it's like rude or as what u said being nosy..
Cris Minabrie17 to a friend, sure! no prob. but to strangers? asking them if theyâre married or have partners, kids, income? naaaah. thatâs just too nosy!
@@hawthornroot no, its just us sure we are pretty nosy but thats just to ensure you if you ok or comfortable its not really to insult
icey melt nganga! u just said ur nosy sabay âwe want to ensure you...if ur okâ abaw! those personal questions to strangers wont ensure no stranger, they will certainly make no one comfortable!
@@hawthornroot well you have a point but other than that its really not our intention to be rude on other occasions we dont really realize if were rude or not so basically its not really our fault for being like that also sorry if sounded like a hate comment
icey melt itâs ok. i didnt take ur comment as a hate comment. all im saying is that strangers getting asked too personal question wouldnt wanna answer them and will consider the one asking nosy whether the one asking mean it in a âgood wayâ. just dont ask personal question like if someoneâs married, how many kids he/she has etc. lol
I am a filipino and i think filipino time is so disrespectful, especially to those who make an effort to get ready really early just to be on time.
ikr? finally, someone agrees.
Iâm Filipino and my parents are always super early to things that happen like an hour later
lalo na 5 ka nagising para pupunta ka sa 9 am shift kainis
Sometimes i wake up early and be late bacause of traffic, so i get to wake up late now
Tangina hahahah
I completely agree. I fucking hate it and it's a waste of time. Plus the person who arrives late just laughs it off.

I actually like it when my filipino friends tell me their honest opinion about what they think of my current look. Back in the US, they will just say "it looks good" almost everytime even if my new appearance is bad so I wouldn't lose confidence.
My filipino friends may poke fun of me when I change something that doesn't suit their taste but at least I get an honest unfiltered feedback. And even if they may laugh at my current look, deep down they are deeply concerned and is just looking out for my greater good.
I'm from the Sultanate of Oman. We have a lot of Filipinos here. I can say that they're very friendly and welcoming.

dark side of the Philippines:
1. 3 million hungry children
2. Corruption
3. Pollution
4. Unavoidable deaths due to ignorance
5. slow internet
6. Technology is surpassed by other countries
7. Third world country
Definitely number 5
Blame PLDT
I blame duterte
I blame Cory Aquino
Being a 3rd world isnt a darkside.....
Egg well ya canât blame on us,we had to blame the Spanish assholes for using up our resources
Being introvert is difficult here in Philippines, people will ask you things you'd rather don't talk about like personal life and you will be considered bad mannered if you directly say you don't want to talk about it. And the selfie culture is quite annoying, there is no purpose there, i still don't get it.
Carmela Camba not all the videos are truth. Sure we ask sometimes like that, but we understand the so called "privacy"... and we value everyone's feeling.
Aries G. Raymundo no need to defend people, if it doesn't apply to you then you are not who i'm talking about.
tbh i can relate

What? Nope, the toilet paper is a must in the West. Also in Hispanic countries rice is eaten a lot, as much as in Asia, but knives and forks are widely used, spoons are heavily used and its the most normal to eat only with a spoon without forks and knives, but using forks and spoons? That's odd as fuck my dude. Also I like spaghetti and sausages, they're great.
The Philippines are looking really cool. Hope to be there one time
Penetrationskommentar yeah,really cool!!then try balut
Do not forget to visit Palawan when u come to us! It's a must visit place here in the Philippines. Also Cebu (not just a good place but also very cheap there).

Indonesians got it from the dutch and Thais acquired from the british guests.
But then we also use hands to eat sometimes

I love indonesians and thais đ I am a filipino.

Jochelle Golez Actually when you are served with beef steak or big chunks of pork, you don't slice them with spoon. You use knife to do that. That's the proper way than struggling with meat.
silent watcher I am so very sorry for not being proper and ignorant Iâm just use to spoons and forks instead of a knife Iâm very use to spoons and forks as I said earlier.
Thank you, love Anonymous Replier
im kinda used to spoon, fork, knife plus the spork the mixed one
In my experience, Balut is supposed to be a drinking food. Like, when you drink beer. I've never seen it being eaten so casually like an everyday snack. tbh the Philippines has SO many delicious street food that isn't a delicacy. I was hoping that those would jhave been highlighted as well instead of just balut XD
And Very Nice Foods
YASSSSS ! totally agree
NickKamekazi every critic I saw says that it taste bland I disagree never let someone decide if you like it or not because these critics have to mind .filipino food taste so gooooood
Just don't buy food from people that makes them in a disgusting place.
Yes thank you for saying that
Filipino food tastes weird in a good way
1.balut is so good
2.some people obseeds of it
3.were lazy as lazy
4.we use only spoon and fork
5.we are friendly
6.and no bad guys in filipino
Ashley kate there are bad guys in philippines alot of killing and things
6 is dripping with sarcasmđ
Ashley kate
As far as I know, the Philippines is suffering from lots of druggies and poverty.
6. Ey, not true.
friendly? is not a excuse it's called manners some are overly nosey in a weird way, one guy working in a store said I see u walk with your girlfriend ...do u have sex lot with her ? she's pretty ( mid 40s guy ) ...one guy said I see u with lot girls ur a good player man I like u.:) ( a cop) and those girls were my friends and none of his business to assume things , one guy asked me if I use condom with girlfriend (stranger againnn) haha these are first time meeting conversations may I ask to locals where I stayed in a silent area in safe davao

As an Indonesian, we share the same traits with our filipinos neighbour. Particularly regarding the "punctuality" issue (an Indonesian friend says "i'm otw" when you call him/her to an appointment, it is very likely that he/she is still in the bed). And about being nosey, i think it is a common trait in South East Asia. In Singapore they call this trait as being "kaypoh" (please correct me if i'm wrong), and in Indonesia they call it as being "kepo".
Interesting similarities
We're not offended Drew because we thank you for sharing our culture to the world. Looking forward on more travel vids.

#3 is something I despise. It's lateness. When I plan things and I specify the time, I might be inconsistent. Sometimes I might be there ahead of time, while at other times, I might end up late because of an indirect reason.

Spaniards forbid Filipinos from using a knife because they knew we're good with knives as weapons.
That's why it's not common for Filipinos to have knives as utensils.
Ah salamat ate
naaaaah, that's just manufactured story during the seventies that through repetition the generation now believes. Why would they use knives as a weapon when everyone have bolos slung on their waists.
that is Bull Shit. How many Bull shit Trivia do Filipinos have. They should really write a book about the 100 Bull shit Filipino bar girls tell foreigners about Filipino Culture. Not Personal! Its just sad how Filipinos have so many Bull Shit Trivia! But Thank You... I will put that on a list of Mythology.
tuks kano And how Moronic is that story! So many Bar Girls tell that to white men who they hope will lift them from poverty.

Being a Filipino, I am a balut addict, I can eat balut continuously until my neck hurts, but really, i don't tear it piece by piece and eat it, nor examine the egg while eating. Its really delicious by just eating it and not anymore examining it. And for me I have limitations, I don't eat balut when the chick is already a chick - complete with beak, feather and wings. foreigners, Americans in particular should know how to pick the right balut like how you pick a good wine hehehe

What was the hardest part about traveling after college? Did you have any debts to pay off prior to traveling?
There are so many good food in the philippines, i don't understand why they always push the exotic ones like balut, dinuguan, isaw and also jollibee to the foreigners. Not all filipinos can eat balut, dinuguan and isaw while jollibee is just a normal fastfood chain. Not all can speak fluent in english but majority can speak and understand english. Not all filipinos are open, friendly or sociable. Yes we do have friends and we treat them like a family, but some still prefers privacy and space specially those living in the city. We use not ony water, but we used soap when cleaning our butts.
So on point. And I use wet wipes, lots of it if outside or when water is non-existent. Toilet papers are only for wiping the wet butts after cleaning with water.
THE SPOON FORK GOT ME~ THATS SO TRUE! LOL. I CANT XD
in the Philipines it's normal to say Bad Words about the internet provider because.......well internet is slower than a turtle.

If I get to recommend one Vlog topic you should feature on Filipino Culture... Boys Circumcision at the age of 8 - 12. This normally happens during summer vacation where the kids dont have to go to school and will have time to heal after the circumcision... Procedures could be the traditional circumcision where in there's no anesthesia and only using guava leaf as disinfectant. Other procedures are done in Medical clinics but the most common are Mass circumcision usually done by the army or some medical volunteers. Every Filipino young boys go through this as a right to manhood.

Who washes their but with toilet paper in asia
My friends and I were supposed to have an hang-out because it was summer time...the day after they asked me why i didnt come...i always say i was sick(out of laziness)
Wow I'm Filipino living in the Philippines and yet I'm very different XD
1. I don't eat balot. Never have even tasted one in my life actually XD (And yeah here we call it balot, I guess its either the dialects or it's interchangeable idk tho)
2. While it may be true I am online often, I don't actually spend as much time as I used to in FB, I've been spending more time on Twitter. (And even my time in G+ may already be starting to surpass the time spent on Facebook...)
Also I don't like taking selfies. Look through my pictures and you'll probably see 75% anime, 15% memes, 4+% other stuff, and I only have like, 7 or 10 selfies in the entire memory lol
3. As much as this still poses an obstacle for me, I'm actually taking effort to rid myself of this habit I consider idiotic (Sometimes going even to the extreme that I want to isolate myself from everyone else, and I sometimes feel like I do better with time when no one is around.)
Well anyway, since I'm practicing to beat even Japanese time (Even the most exact time, even seconds late not tolerated), so I'm actually taking effort at that.
Lets say you'd invited me for dinner, I'd try my best to make it early or exact time, but assuming I'd mess up and be late, I'd say I'd be at the least less than 1 minute, and at the most, 15-30 minutes late, though assuming nothing can delay me, it would be 15 minutes.
4. Well.... not really much difference, but yeah I use a spoon and a fork here. And if its not that, its chopsticks.
Though worth noting, I will *NEVER* use my hands to eat food. While my crazy brain would sometimes go "Its uncivilized" (Which is rude and arrogant to say tbh), I think its more of I'm like a cat, when I hold food with my hands, within a few seconds you'll see me washing my hands, sometimes with soap. Cause its kinda uncomfortable to have the feeling of food touching your hands, and smelling like food too, so I wash it like how a cat cleans itself by licking its paws.... yeah I'm weird XD
5. Well not much difference here either tbh XD
Yeah I'm chill when you talk to me lol, although I'd probably be more shy and introverted at first. Although obviously I'd be very cautious (or even creeped out) if you were a stranger that just casually approached me. Buttttt yeahhhh glad you enjoy our country, most of us are pretty nice, I guess XD
Ok u are reallu different!!! I thought u do the same things!!
