8. Koala bear

KOALAS
Koalas live in grassland and forests in Australia. Koalas may live from 13 to 18 years in the wild. Female koalas usually live longer than male koalas.
They are herbivores and eat mostly eucalyptus leaves. They have sharp teeth to pull the leaves off the trees.
The leaves of the eucalyptus tree have a high-water content, so the koala does not need to drink water often.
Koalas eat a little bit of dirt.
Koalas are strong and have a good balance, which helps them when they are climbing trees.
Koalas don’t have many activities, so they sleep up to 20 hours a day.
Koalas are about 60-85 centimeters long and weigh around 4-15kilograms. They have thick fur that is brown or grey.
The koalas’ predators, which are animals that will hunt them, include owls, foxes, and pythons. They are most likely to go after young koalas.

On Kangaroo Island a few weeks ago many koalas were killed or injured when the trees they lived in were cut down. Please help to save koalas.
