I learned to love Array Mbira through your channel! I hope we have that here in the Philippines. I wonder how much it would cost though. God bless you for sharing this wonderful instrument to us!
The creators of the instrument live in California, USA but they do ship. God bless! Glad you enjoy. It's a beautiful sound.
This is my dream instrument 😍. Yes it's so pricey....but someday I must have the 5 octave, at the right time...😊😊😊😊 💪💪💪
Thank you for sharing...
It will be both worth the wait and worth saving for 🤗❤️😊 Best to you
I think I'll just watch your videos...😁😁😁🙏😉💞
Lol And I appreciate you so much!
Ah, my dream instrument!!!! 😍😍😍

Such a lovely instrument! It's nice to learn about it. Thank you so much, I'm very interested! 💖🤗

@@puppetpatti Whats the difference between a
Mbira vs array Mbira vs Kalimba ?
@@magnified4827 Hi there! Well, the difference in them is that the Array Mbira is more of a westernized instrument. influenced by the authentic African Mbira. Using the same idea of the kalimba or mbira, the Array Mbira is definitely not traditional. The authentic mbira has its roots and origin and traditional music. I would have to say we are extremely blessed to have the authentic mbira on this earth. Without it, the Array Mbira concept would never have been invented! So thank you to Bill Wesley and Patrick Hadley for creating these newer aged mbiras. There will never be a replacement for the authentic mbira. Nothing can take its place. But its lovely that so many similar build instruments because of it. Thanks for stopping by!
Great video! ❤️
Thanks! Be sure to check out my music too 👍🏻 I just love sharing the beautiful sound of the Array Mbira. And thank you so much for stopping by. I truly appreciate it. 🤗
I love your videos❤️❤️❤️
Thank you so much! 🤗
Wonderful video Patti! Now we can answer the question; " do solid bodies sound good unplugged?" these are unplugged and they sound great.
+bill Wesley rd they do! Sitting in my sound sponge with it also helps resonate the sound too👍🏻. I’m having fun doing these informative videos. I still have some more music to upload too though. Working on my next music video now. Hopefully Tuesday it will be ready to share.
Aww😍 i love this instro! I don't think we have one of those! Here in our country😢This is amazing!! I wish i could have one😘
They do ship internationally 😉 I love it too! Its beyond my favorite instrument to play ❤️ Thanks for stopping by!
I started at the kalimba, I hope to play this beautiful instrument one day, although I would have to save up money first.
I hope you someday have your own Array! You can do it. Saving is very important. Keep up your kalimba! I started on kalimba and still play a bit of them. Thanks for stopping by!
I cannot afford one I'm sure but I bought three kalimba and two sets of keys and I am going to figure out how to build it. Thanks, I'm at the very beginning of my journey.
Best to you on your adventure! I'm sure you will make a beautiful instrument with beautiful sound.
I'd really like to learn😊
How can I help? 👍🏻
Great review, thanks for sharing this. How did you learn is the next question.
Hi Gary! Not sure how this comment was missed by me so PLEASE except my sincere apologies! I actually have a video answering your very question. I'll link it here! Thank you again for stopping by. I truly appreciate you! czcams.com/video/CsJIl_GTQ94/video.html
hii i love how you play mbiraa. it's very beautiful. i wonder where to buy these instruments? i really want to have someee
Thank you so much. You can contact the builders of the Array Mbira at www.arraymbira.com 😉
These are beautiful! For a beginner, do you think that the 5 octave one is necessary? Personally, I dont think that I would need all five.
They are beautiful! Thanks for stopping by. If you are really interested in an Array Mbira I would suggest a 4-octave semi-hollow. Reach out to Bill and Patrick at www.arraymbira.com 😁
Es parecido a la kalimba esta bello
Yes, it is similar but more massive. In size, sound and the ability to play more notes. All notes are available on the Array Mbira.
Do you have instructional videos for teaching the array mbira? I am planning on getting one some time soon.
I have a playlist titled “Array Chat” with some informational vids😉
Always wanted one of these, I got a hugh tracey karimba (yes karimba not kalimba, karimba has two rows of tines) some years ago and they are very fun, but you need dem nails and the stress on the thumbs is quite strong, I actually find it easier to play with the fingers... it's great for improvising and playing real driving rhythms but limited by having only 17 tines, so when your boy wants to play mozart it requires mid-score retuning which kind of ruins the experience. Where the hell can I get one of these?? The karimba i got was from kalimbamagic but I was only visiting the US. Also since I know the struggles of travel, I am curious to know if there could be a way to build one that is disassemblable, it would make the travel much more convenient, and also I figure replacing tines would be easier.... Basically I want the MMX version of this instrument (Marble Machine X, a great music/engineering project)
Hi there Marco! You can see these instruments at www.arraymbira.com
I know of a few folks that have created their own, something similar. But the sound is never as enchanting as the real deal. To create one to disassemble? 🤔
I’m wondering if you listened to some of my more recent music recordings on my channel? I’m also SUPER curious how to came across this older video lol. Were you searching Kalimba? Karimba? Mbira? Fascinating you found this video. Maybe it came up in your recommended?
However I’m glad to help answer any questions you might have about the Array Mbira. Take care!
@@puppetpatti sorry i didn't reply earlier, but yeah, im always curious about non-conventional instruments (at least not western ones) like the harpejji, hammered dulcimer, hang drum, theremin, all that stuff. Eve the electronic boards like the tenori-on and the linstrument, cool stuff. I think I just found you because there's not so much out there on this instrument?? If I could find a way to experiment it would be interesting to try to build one, but yes, for reference I'd need the real one, and then I would just be playing that all the time.
Oh I love the odd and unusual instruments too! I gave my son a theremin for Christmas one year😊 I know if you in California, Bill and Patrick would allow you to go play and get your hands on one of their Arrays. I hope you eventually own one. They are not only beautiful but FASCINATING to play😊
I'm in germany and that instrume t is soo beautiful!. sadly i can't afford to spend 2000+ $ on something even that beautiful. how did you learn to play it? i doubt that there are music schools that teach mbira?
maybe i should start with a 17 tone kalimba to see how much i really like it?
In handarbeit
@@Angelika5378 Danke, könntest du mir bitte schreiben wie sie heißt?
@@outlastfan leider hab ich die seite nicht gespeichert
@@Angelika5378 Schade, aber trotzdem danke.🤗
When you go from a 4-octave to a 5-octave, is the new octave higher or lower?
The new octave would be the lower bass one 👍🏻
Very intereſted in this inſtrument. Haſt thou euer tried putting one of theſe array mbiras on a dꝛum head to make them lowder acouſtically? The larger ones look like thou wouldeſt need a huge baſſe dꝛum oꝛ timpani, but the mini arrays look like they could ſit comfoꝛtably on a 10 oꝛ 14 inch hand dꝛum or euen large cowbell. I know the interuals are tuned in fifths, but hast thou euer tried tuning ſome of the interuals in iuſt intonation, like making ſome of the fifths pure and others impure foꝛ the ſake of hauing pure thirds foꝛ other choꝛds? The incredible ſound and timbꝛe of the mbira I feel would be amazing in iuſt intonation.
Hi and thank you for you very interesting post. The Array tunings cannot be changed. They are set for the life of the instrument. And even attempting to change the position of any of the tines would not be recommended. Bill Wesley, the creator, tunes them himself. And it takes much time. But I do have every note available. There are also two piezo pickups in the instruments. So sound is not an issue really. The acoustic can really fill a room even without an amp.
70 going on 71 on my back much of the time what is good when laying down?
Hi! If you are asking about something to play while bedridden, I highly suggest a smaller kalimba or karimba. My friend Mark Holloway at kalimbamagic.com is selling his stock at 1/2 price. I bet you could find a beautiful kalimba at a great price from him. Hope you get to feeling better. Take care!
I wish I could get those mini array ambira😭😭😭😭 I want it so bad
You can, just start saving. No matter how long it takes, set some money aside each week. I know you can. 👍🏻 My first Array I saved and saved. I actually put it on lay away with the creator. Knowing it was there just waiting for me drove me to save even harder. Maybe you can do the same thing? Pick one out and put it on layaway?
Can you just create music as you go with this like one can do on the Native American flute - or do you need to follow music sheet???
Do you mean improvise? If so, yes. This instrument is great to improvise on🤗
Where can you get the small 1 please & how much are they?
I'm not sure if they are still making the mini array mbiras? But you can definitely check. Here's their website
www.arraymbira.com
Hope it all works out for you!
Is this the same like kalimba or different?
Its is the same. concept. To play using metal tines. This is just a larger instrument, with tines that are laid out much differently than a smaller kalimba. It's a lovely instrument! I adore it!
@@puppetpatti if you can play a kalimba will you be able to play easily the array mbira too? Or there's a little difference on tines arrangements?
They are different in layout and also how you pluck the tines. BUT if youre a go getter then of course you can play both👍🏻 I started out on kalimba 😊
Where do you buy the 4 octave array mbira
You would go to their website. arraymbira.com 😉
Can you make a music using this instruments; Glass Piano, Mbira array, Zither, Koto, Pandrums, Harp and nose flute?
I don't have those instruments. Other then the Array Mbira..But I'd love to have them. 😁
@@puppetpatti is Mbira array is a new invented instrument or already old?
It's just not well known. The guy that invented it made his first one on the 60's so it's been around sometime. Just recently there has been more interest in the Array
Where do I buy one?!
You would contact Bill Wesley, the maker, through his website www.arraymbira.com 😉
I'd like to buy one but don't know where... Do you know where can I buy one that can ship here in the Philippines? (Sorry if my english is bad)
Your English is well! You can talk to Bill, the creator. Contact him at www. arraymbira.com
Yes they ship everywhere👍🏻
@@puppetpatti thank you! 🥰❤
@@puppetpatti they're out of stock😢
@@ToniToniiToniii3 they make them as they are ordered. Just contact Bill and he will be happy to hear from you👍🏻
Does it ever go out of tune so you have to tune it by yourself?
No not really at all. I did send my acoustic back to the makers one time for a tune up BUT that was really because they had improved the design and wanted to improve my Array. All my other arrays I’ve had for years without any tuning issues 👍🏻 Thanks for stopping by! I’m here if you have any more questions 🤗
@@puppetpatti
Thank you.
@@abisha6166 You bet! Are you considering getting one of these Array Mbiras?
@@puppetpatti
I would love to, but I'm not in a position to at the moment. I'll buy one after I finish my studies and get a job.
Do you play the kalimba?
When you do have the Array you will LOVE it! I'm sure! I played Kalimba back in the day. Then I began my search for something bigger and found it in the Array Mbira. My kalimbas sit nicely on my piano now, gathering dust bunnies unfortunately. I do pick them up occasionally but my passion now is for the Array. Best to you in your studies! Keep it up!
Hi 🙋 were can I get this instrument?
arraymbira.com 😉
@@puppetpatti thank you so much! 💕 I am really excited to learn this instrument 😊
is the array dangerous cus it looks like knifes
No it's not at all lol. It's a beautiful instrument with an amazing one of a kind sound.
