- Of course, RuPaul was not quite ready when Nelson stopped by the former residence of Aunt Helen to pick him up. Looking fabulous takes lots of time. RuPaul was staying with Molli Worthington in the house she had inherited from her favorite aunt and was in Atlanta to do a weekend full of shows at Michael Khrongold's Colorbox nightclub in the Virginia-Highlands section of Atlanta. Video by Nelson Sullivan.
Nelson knew Ru Paul was going to be a star. You could tell he really loved him and looked out for him almost like a dad. I hope Ru Paul looks back at these videos and sees what a great friend he was. Ru Paul was the only real talent of that entire group, and always had such a great, positive attitude. I have a new respect for him after discovering Nelson's videos.

@@teeniebeenie8774 I don't understand the hate towards young Rupaul, it's obvious he is a kid in newyork who doesn't have anything and anyone but his friends. He's quiet and reserve and nelson even filmed him being in tears or almost in tears on these videos goes to show his struggles. Rupaul himself admitted that he is homeless during these time living from one friend to another including Nelson who he mentioned always has his door open for him. If he is a moocher by trying to survive by relying on his friends because he doesn't have anything I don't see why that is so bad. I think Nelson really does adore Ru he even introduced him to his mom who is one of the most special person to Nelson
Amazing to see these. And now RuPaul is this huge celebrity! Hope he gets to see these and smiles at the memories.

@7.50 Ru sat at the office / dressing room desk, drinking a 'drink' through a straw. I can almost hear the 'slurp!' ... a lovely touch we see often on Drag Show these days, as someone pretends to look away and be distracted, drinking through a straw, when the shade is being thrown! Wonderful!

Life was better back then, less complicated, anonymity if you wanted it, and great diverse music by musicians who for the majority could actually play and sing w/o relying on digital manipulation.

I also GPS'd that old 2 story house Ru lived in in Atl -as seen in another of Nelsons videos. Its still there and I took a screen shot. Pretty cool knowing how much history is in places you take for granted or never even know existed 😘

Actually Colorbox was at the intersection of Virginia and Highland ,, a few doors down from the Highland Tap. ( in the space that later became Everybody’s Pizza)

The crazy thing, I was there that night. I just freaked out seeing my car (white vintage Ford) when they are in the parking lot before going in the club. 😵

You can see the sarcoma from aids, the large dark spot on his face. They didn’t have the medications they have now. Even though he died of a heart attack at 41 it was an aids related heart attack. It’s obvious when they talk about it that he new. Brave man.
OMG im rolling my eyes so hard at this you know-it-all. He had just gotten a mole removed, and that's a scab. His friends even mention it in the beginning of the video and there's a video he filmed of him getting it removed at a dermatologist in his hometown in SC.

Nelson smoked pot but didn't have a drug induced heart attack.... Also, even though it's none of your business, Nelson's grandfather and great grandfather both passed away by the age of 43.
