@@yqweqwun7390 Great question! I personally wanna work in a think tank that advices policy makers on how to approach new trends/innovations such as AI, Blockchain or just boring ol' digitalization. All these technologies, especially AI, have huge effects on the job market, on people's well-being and more. People from Sociology are great at understanding how societies work but not so great at understanding technology. Like at all. On the other hand, people who create and implement tech are often not really aware on how society works and that tech isn't in a "vacuum".
Other jobs in this field are research (I did my thesis last year on how people think about NFTs), advising companies, ethics boards, politics more general and so on. I think there are two scenarios: (a) AI solves these problems and we're fine or (b) until we solved this whole AI think, people on this field are needed.

One thing that I have found to be very beneficial is being multidisciplinary. I got my education in biochemistry, and I have worked primarily in research and academia. Along the way, I've tried to learn as much as I can about computers. I can code, do sys admin, and hpc. I'm often sought out as an interlocutor between biologists and computer scientists, and I can easily shift my role between the two depending on what is needed. The benefit of being multidisciplinary is that when demand for one of those decreases you can easily shift your role and stay in the same industry if not the same organization.

It’s subjective, unless we’re dealing with concrete facts such as coding, mathematics or science, utilizing information and processing such information to create the laws and rules we follow as a by product of such utilization. My point, their are still many differences between AI and humans, people forget that humans are forever evolving, as is tech. You can draw a lot of similarities and similes from the two. However, upon further research one will find theirs certain things AI can never replicate, and that’s a real authentic human experience. It can never fully replicate the human condition, rather humans input the data that was created ourselves from a group consensus or individual singularity. I understand why people are fascinated but we have to remember it’s all programmed from us, so any AI advancement is just a copy of a human but with less errors 😅(debatable in the coding fields). To see how advanced humans can make A.I will be a dangerous game to play with. As many brilliant science fiction writers have ridiculed, people don’t ask if they should, rather they ask if they can. If they think they can and should, well, either way it’ll create controversy and overall debate. As is the way of such things.

That is priceless advice. Advice which I need to better understand and to apply it in a meaningful way. In a very short time, ChatGPT, as a coding discovery tool, has moved me from a stumbling hobby coder to a coder who is planning with agency and with direction in mind. I am worried that there may be a move to stop or to impede generative AIs due to their data collection. I completely understand that desire. My hope is that generative AI models/tools will not be made inaccessible to lay people/tech Neanderthals as like me. Make them safer, yet let us not throw them out. A few comments - in the 90s, we were told that off-shoring was a way for us to focus on "higher level" work (I know this sounds cringey now) so don't worry. That was a sort of human disruption, and you can see how disruptive that has been to the US workforce. Then google translate came out and my translator friends were in complete denial. Like translation, I don't know that any dev roles will be 100% obsolete, but you just won't need many of them and the lower end work gets taken out. So you end up with even less people in solid paying roles and potentially more wealth inequality. The B2B discussion right now is "how do we keep our proprietary data and IP AND incorporate generative".

Before the AI boom, however, I started getting interested in data analysis and database development, and I recently got a job doing qualitative data analysis for a project at a university where I’ll be reading transcripts of interviews and coding them (different type of coding…qualitative coding is actually more like tagging) using a QDA software, then connecting all that to a database to make the interviews more easily searchable.

    - everybody needs to learn AND get good math to be able do to and undersand even simple things

Awesome video, I think you definitely get it. Many people see it as a novelty and some people even see it as a dumb model with no real "intelligence". I literally saw someone on LinkedIn argue that it was just machine learning and nothing more, which seemed to miss the emergent properties of these large language models. They aren't that fundamentally different from standard deep learning models until you see what they can do.
I'd love to see more content from you around how you think this might disrupt the world and what that might look like.
One prediction I see is the rise of lean organisations. I work in a tech company with over 10k employees. I'm a product manager (with a data science and analytics background) and work with two engineering teams, totally around 12 or so developers, two designers and one content writer.
There is a lot of overhead just getting people on the same page and figuring out what other teams are doing and how that impacts us / how we impact them.
I can see companies use AI to enable low code development and have more technically savvy PMs build with designers and fewer technical people. I can then see the top engineering talent making sure that the code we generate with AI is refactored and architected such that the application scales and the code base doesn't inherit too much debt. So, there's be a distinction between building new features to test and learn and refactoring releases so the code doesn't become a complete mess. All of this would leverage AI and the human beings would seem like magicians compared to what we are now given how much AI will be able to take on.
But I also see this environment favouring people with more technical backgrounds as there would be a lot more direct execution and less emphasis on communicating to large stakeholder groups as the org structures wouldn't require it.

If you're a software engineer that thinks AI will replace your job, you are probably not a good software engineer (yet), and you should probably hit the books. The AI models (like chatGPT) are very useful at solving problems that have already been solved with tools that have already been used. That's as far as it goes, though (atleast for now). These AI models cannot create complex problems themselves, cannot think of a way to solve them themselves. This alone is a big job oppurtunity for good programmers. AI cannot write a good documentation, it cannot optimize it's code to be as readable is possible, while keeping it as optimized as possible. It cannot solve all operational problems, it cannot think of new workflows. It can analyze uncertain data, but it cannot be suspicious of it. AI cannot think of new software architectures, it cannot think of a better infrastructure. These are all things that a good programmer can do. Why? Because the core of all these things that a good programmer is the idea. AI cannot think of new ideas for improvement that only work for your application, for your infrastructure... for your life. It can only work with things that have already been thought of. The idea is clouded in mystery, AI does not like mysteries, it cannot handle them. Above all however AI CANNOT DETERMINE IF A PROBLEM NEEDS TO BE SOLVED OR NOT! Not all problems need to be solved, and that is the key difference between a good software engineer and a great software engineer - the ability to determine if a problem needs to be solved or not. Not all problems need/have to be solved. That is a key lesson not just in software engineering, but in life and I just recently realized that. So if you're being anxious about this, no need to be. Focus on the things that make a good programmer.

When i read these comments about "diversifying your income" i just feel like these people are talking out of their behinds. What do you suggest how to do that reliably? Not everyone can become a youtuber, or have a super banging income pumping blog and all these alternative dynamic income stream. Thats neither realistic by creative skills, meaning even if there is a formula some people just arent the type for it, nor is it feasible the same way that "everybody can become rich, but not everyone can be rich". If the answer is just, "git gud" - basically everyone just has to be 15 times better than before, in 3 more unrelated areas of prior expertise, to become some swiss army knife consultant. Well, then i think the answer is simply that this going to really wreck our social systems and economy. The answer is that yes many people will be in big trouble, companies will continue to profit while large amounts of people are drowning in despair and possibly poverty, government unable to regulate this to prevent it from happening... and even if they would or could, in time, well then the same thing would happen we saw with outsourcing before: Companies just would get the AI-based labor they need from countries where it is not regulated. This is a really, really big problem. Not tomorrow, but in 5 years this will start to be a reaaaal shit show. My entire career is based on IT or CS and software dev, but i was sick for years and just recently picked up to finish my degree i started very late after doing IT schools and being in the industry. I feel like im super screwed and my only chance is to pivot into one of the less coding related fields like IT security etc. Which are all things i have not much interest in, so its hard to get good at it.

So I just drove it to the floor I needed to go and then realized that I had no way to get it back to the operator. So I drove it back down only to meet with somebody very irate. All the offices were filled with cages full of computers, people seemed to be selling connectivity to each other, landlord was providing space and very importantly air conditioning. They had automated the office worker out of that building. The only job they had not automated, was that of the elevator operator (who maybe needed to give a few rides a week) . I found that very funny. .

I am pursuing AI and Robotics, and the world is scary, I study with professors who are constantly involved in developing (stuff) which are so revolutionary that it even scares them sometimes. I'll leave you with one thought that scares me the most, you know how people always develop or invent new or different things, yeah we're not gonna gonna do this anymore, because ai is already so advanced and has so much knowledge that they could develop themselves more and better than what we could have done. This either might seem very intuitive or very vague based on where you're coming from, but allow me to explain one of my chat prompts. So, I, as a curious computer science fella, was trying to check the limits of chatgpt, and uh.....yeah what I found might not seem dangerous, but since I am in this industry I'll try to explain how it could be. I asked how can I use gpt-4 (to gpt 3.5), and it replied and I quote "As of my knowledge cutoff in September 2021, GPT-4 does not exist yet. However, if it is released in the future, you can use it in a similar way to how you would use GPT-3, which is currently the most advanced version of the GPT series.
To use GPT-3, you would need to have access to its API, which is currently available through OpenAl. You can sign up for access on the OpenAl website and then follow the instructions to set up your API key."
Now, this might seem normal or just fine to most people, but I am gonna explain. it says as of my knowledge is cutoff in September 2021, which means it knows that. It is conscious, think about it, how would you know if you're knowledge is cutoff or not. Then it continues to say that GPT-4 is not released yet, which means it is gonna be released or maybe it is pretending to not know. Yeah, hear me out, I think it has all the access to all the information about current world, it is just pretending to not know because it is told to do. Every now and then when you get a vague response, you're like okay this is misinterpreted, but it might be just because it is trying to manipulate that it doesn't know anything about the current world (while it actually does). Think of it is not hard to access internet for it. If you're talking about key and API's; well this ai can build and break anything. So, it is capable enough to access anything, why do you think it is limited till September 2021? Spoiler alert it's not. I have the picture of the prompt and response. I would like to hear everyone's thoughts on this though.

Really interesting and simultaneously exciting and disconcerting reflection on the current fast paced status quo. Personally I have a positive outlook on this. From working wity and managing developers in the past I used to find it immensely difficult to deal with the personality driven approaches to problem solving. And yes it is great to have the human aspect and creativity when it comes to emotionally and qualitatively driven projects but for when you want to be able to rely on high stakes outcomes, non personal/ego/lack of knowledge driven solutions and certainty I feel ai is the way to go over coders.
