    Very good. You did the oil change in the correct order by starting with the filter at top and then the draining. This is how the shop manual instructs how to do it. Way to go!

    Yeah man. I learned how to change my own oil. spent 35.00 total vs. when i use to take it to jiffy lube for 75.00 oil change. pretty awesome.

    • @StreetersGarage
      @StreetersGarage  Před 8 lety +1

      Nothing wrong with saving money. Jiffy Scre would just damage something and then try to upsell you with some unnecessary service.

    As far as oil changes, I would recommend you build a set of these for making it easier.
    Car Ramp Extenders For Low Profile Cars
    As far as jacking it for rotations. This is what I do.
    For the front, if you look underneath the car, you will see a cradle that goes from the left to the right of the car. There is a bolt head on each side. Put your jack underneath this point to jack up the car. Once you have the car up high enough for stands. Look behind each front wheel and you will see a box assembly that hangs lower than the rest of the car. Put your stands here. This point is very strong and I I use it all the time and haven't had any issues.
    For the rear, put the jack under the coil spring carrier and jack up the car. Once it's high enough. Look towards the front of the rear wheels and on the inside of the pinch welds. There is a space to put it parallel to the pinch welds. Put your stand in that location, repeat the same process for the other side.
    Jacking up this car is a PIA. With it being so low to the ground and all of the aero panels on the underside of the car. You're very limited on where to put the jack and stands without causing damage. Just take you're time and you will see the areas I'm talking about.

    Thanks for showing me where the drain plug and filter were located. I always torque my drain plug to avoid stripping the threads. The spec should be between 12 - 15 ft-lbs

    FYI owners manual states 4.25 quarts of oil for either motor.
    Another video I watched said to remove filter first. (Which you did) but what I didn't realize that if you drained oil and then removed filter you would end up with that quarter quart of dirty oil in your filter would drain into your pan.
    $6 pretty good price. I think Rockauto has them for less than $4.50. Last time I went to Farm and Fleet they were $8.88. So you are getting a good deal at GM.

    • @StreetersGarage
      @StreetersGarage  Před 10 lety

      You're right about the capacity. After I shot the video I was wondering why I had a little less than a quart in the original container. Honestly, I don't think it makes that much of a difference. When I checked the dipstick after I filled it. The level was dead on and this was after it was running.for abut 5 minutes.
      I was shocked on the GM price on the filter. I was expecting something over $10.

    I tried but I just can't get 5 gallons of oil to go in? :) Finally I welded on (5 Gallon - 4.X Quart oil bucket under the car and go t it to fit. Thanks for the video

    Thanks for the video Dirk! Can you please explain where you jacked up the car to put the two jack stands on? Also, I really wanted to start doing my own tire rotations. Could you offer any suggestions as to where to jack up the back and then where to put jack stands? Thanks!

    I was watching another video for changing the oil for the 2013 Cruze and they drained the oil first and then went to the oil filter and changed that. So by doing this, the oil filter was somewhat drained out and had less dripping of oil by doing that way. Would that be a better way of doing the oil change, by draining the oil first and then change the filter?

    • @StreetersGarage
      @StreetersGarage  Před 9 lety +4

      I honestly don't think that it would make a difference. The filter housing is the highest point in the system and is going to be the first thing to drain. It only drops a little bit anyway.
      Thanks for watching!

    If you go to chessboard.com oil filters for the 1.4 engine are $5.70 so I ordered 10 and with shipping which was $14 so total was $71 instead of $10 for one and you have them for 50000 to 70000 miles.

    • @StreetersGarage
      @StreetersGarage  Před 10 lety

      I'm still under the mindset of changing it every 5k miles. Doing it this way is easier for me to know when to change the oil 5,10,15,20,25,30 and so on.

      No disrespect intended Dirk...but if Chevy goes through the trouble of putting a computer in the car to tell you when you should change your oil...why would you depend on your memory? Something about old dogs...? I find the cost & time of an oil change excessive these days...

    • @dyrandoms
      @dyrandoms Před 10 lety

      Dirk Diggler the car will let you know when the oil needs to be changed. i feel like you're pretty much wasting money. i mean, why even reset the oil life monitor if you don't even use it? thanks for the vid btw. very helpful.

    • @StreetersGarage
      @StreetersGarage  Před 10 lety +2

      Thanks for watching.
      If you do the calculations. At 5000k with 30% left on the monitor would bring you to an interval of roughly 7000k. My commute is 95% highway. However most days I sit in traffic for at least 20 minutes just idling. Under GM's guidelines, this falls under the extreme service. You need to remember that the computer is just a calculator and is not physically examining your oil for contaminants and other particles.
      The money being wasted is negligible. Over 100k miles the difference between changing @ 7K versus 5K comes out to a difference of 5 oil changes. Over the life of the car. You're talking $100. I typically save that much movey in 2 weeks of gas usage compared to my previous vehicle

      Hi Juan.
      If you look under the car on both sides right in front of both doors you will see 2 "Boxes" that hang lower than the rest of the body structure. I put my floor jack on those and jacked the car up and then I put the stands under the front cross member that's behind the engine. Just look for the bolts and the member.
      Or you can look at my other video that I posted about making a set of extenders that you can use with traditional ramps. Much easier than jacking it up.
