Cool kit Dave! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for watching, Ernie! I appreciate you taking the time to watch and leave your nice comment, my friend! -Dave
Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for watching, William! I appreciate you stopping by! -Dave
Hey, Dave. I enjoy your content. I adopted your heatshield to use with my Fancy Feast stove. A nice addition to a simple, cheap but effective cook system. And aluminum foil always comes in handy. Keep up the content. Good stuff.
Great piece of kit & review.
Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your kind words! I appreciate you stopping by! -Dave
Nice...thank you!
Thank you for the kind words, Mike! I appreciate you taking the time to watch! Dave
Just an Addition regarding the Cleaning Needle.
I read somewhere .. an Instructor in the Swedish Military (apparently the Svea 123 is in common use therein) warned on the use of the Cleaning Needle Mechanism during a 'hot' burn or immediately thereafter. It is possible that the Needle could become 'heat welded' in the Jet Oriface, thus rendering the Stove inoperable. He stated that it was fairly common with Recruits that don't follow the correct procedure in allowing the Stove to cool down a bit before Jet Cleaning. This requires the Stove having to be sent away for repairs and the offending Recruit on the receiving end of some 'Therapy' .. of the Corrective kind 😏.
Take care ..
I like the kit, thanks to you I picked up my first Svea 123, and I now love cooking with it.
I am glad I could help and its very easy to fall in love with, isn't it? Thank you for watching and leaving your awesome comment, my friend! -Dave
A nice share thanks 👍.
I have the SVEA's First Cousin, the Optimus 8R Hunter (same Burner Mechanism). Bought new in the mid-70's .. in regular use and still going strong.
Been meaning to and this Posting has just given me the kick needed .. I think that I'll take it out tomorrow.
Take care ..
thanks for your informative and friendly videos! i really like them! svea 123R is also my favorite stove + husqvarna ASPEN 4 gas. it´s been a great and reliable stove for a long time. i never regret an extra weight in my back pack! well done! i wish you best of luck with your channel and a very Merry Christmas and a happy holiday season! Stay safe and take care. 🎅🎉🎁🔔🎄
Great video as always Dave!
Great to hear from you, as always, my friend! Thank you for taking the time to stop by! -Dave
Great little kit there Dave.
Nice to hear from you, John! I appreciate you taking the time to stop by and leave your nice comment, my friend! -Dave
Спасибо!Очень интересное видео.
For other lightweight options have you considered using a BRS stove with a small cannister of gas? I have 2 SVEA 123R stoves and just absolutely LOVE them. They do weigh a lot and I find for milder weather or lower altitude camping and backpacking trips I just use the BRS stove and cannister of gas instead of the SVEA. I always use the SVEA for high altitude treks into the mountians around my home or it's the temperature is going to be below 32 degrees Farenheit. The cannister stoves won't work in those situations. For summertime and early fall I use the BRS. You should get one to see if you even like them. They only cost about $16 on Amazon. Let me know what you think. Thanks for the video too. I liked it a lot.
Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your awesome comment, Bart! Yes, for a few years I have been considering other stoves that are lighter (I have a trangia and DIY cat can and beer can stoves) and just cannot get away from the Svea. I love it. As you know, very fun the use and very dependable. I don't have a problem giving up other gear in my pack so I can carry a stove that weighs over 1 pound..haha. And it's funny because I don't do much more than boil water for freezing bag cooking. Its just the one luxury item that I insist on carrying. Great points you made, my friend! -Dave
Man, your cooker took me back to the issued ones we received 30 years ago and used during winter training in Norway, the British Military No 7 cooker was brass and looked very similar to your one but in a different holder, no pumping required just warm it up with some fire paste etc and once lit and fired up it was like a fighter jets engine on after burn. Awesome channel you have, love it!
Great video Dave. You should be a Svea rep. You would probably sell plenty of product.Enjoy
Thank you for the kind words, tread! Haha..that would be something, wouldn't it? I tried sales a couple of times in my life but was never very good at it. -Dave
EXCELLENT VIDEO!
Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your very nice comment, ed! I really appreciate that, my friend! -Dave
I appreciate your gear.. you’re practical. In three videos now, I have found we have all the same stuff. Gonna go watch more vids now!
Awesome video as always
Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your very kind words, my friend! -Dave
Great to see you out Dave’s. Really nice choices. I’ve never tried that type of stove it does look fun. God bless you and your family. John
Great to hear from you, John! Thank you for the kind words and the Svea 123R is very fun to use and outstanding! It weighs over a pound by itself but I just cannot stop carrying it...haha! I hope everything is going well, my friend, and I appreciate you taking the time to stop by! -Dave
Great little kit
Thank you for watching and leaving your kind words, my friend! -Dave
I always enjoy your cookset videos dave!! I always learn alot from them and often end up designing my kit around your recommendations. Great budget tip on the plastic spoon. I am sold on the Titanium spoons, I am sold on them, but after setting a few down in the woods, I have made sure to add the orange paracord. I like those Svea , I may look into one for this years hiking. Very cool Tip on cutting the MH in half. I have drifted away from thos, but your tip would make them more economical and packable. I hope you have had a Great Weekend my Friend and wonderful Easter as well!
Great to hear from you, Lee! I am very happy to hear that you enjoy my cookset videos! My long spoon came with a small orange stuff sack and I make to to keep it in there, as I am sure I will lose mine very soon..haha! I find that dividing the MH meals in half saves money and weight of food I don't really need. I am not the biggest fan of MH meals, as they are quite expensive. I also hope you had an excellent Easter and please say HI to the grandkids for me, Lee! -Dave
I'm with you: it might not be ultralight, but totally worth it as long as it's fun. :-)
I like this setup! My 123 does not get much use these days but I always liked it...I need to break it back out. Excellent video.
Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your kind words! I actually have a hard time putting the 123R away..haha! Even though its over a pound by itself, I still insist on carrying it because I love using it so much! -Dave
Hello my outdoors friend, thank you for sharing this fine video. I like cook kit, very practical set up. Be safe out there and keep those great reviews coming. 🤗
Hello Ronald and thank you for watching! As always, I really appreciate the kind words and you be safe out there too! I look forward to talking with you again soon! -Dave
I used a rounded punch to dimple all of my cups. One dimple at the 1 cup level....two dimples at the 2 cup level. Start gently, you want to displace the metal a bit...not punch a hole.
Thats a great tip, Ed! How do you line up your punch with the water level inside the cup? Do you just eyeball it? I appreciate you taking the time to stop by and for your excellent information! -Dave
@@HighCarbonSteelLove I measured one cup into the container, used a chopstick for a dipstick and marked the level on it ....then transferred it to the outside, accounting for the thickness of the the cup. Then again at the 2 cup level. I got the idea from some else...I'd give a hat tip if I could remember who.
Fun stuff bud, I always enjoy your videos.
Nice to hear from you, tim! Thank you for stopping by and I appreciate your kind words, my friend! -Dave
Dave,
It's good to see you, again. It has been awhile. I hope this means you'll be posting frequent videos, again. You explain things well and always have an excellent attitude. Thank you so much for posting, again.
Nice to hear from you again, robert! Thank you for stopping by and leaving your very nice, encouraging comment, my friend! I look forward to talking with you again soon! -Dave
Thanks for taking us along, Dave. Nice video as always. You have great how to's and suggestions. I always enjoy coming along with you.
As a very minor aside, I thought about mentioning this on earlier videos, but never took the time. About your "insulator pad", because aluminium foil is a good conductor of heat, it'd actually be better insulated without the foil on the cardboard...obviously having more of an effect during the winter. My guess is you're using the foil as protection for the cardboard.
Thank you for coming along, Rick! I appreciate you taking the time to watch and leave your very nice comment, my friend! Yes, the foil on the cardboard is more for protection and it also holds the form of the carboard, as it get thrown around quite a bit..haha! I also figure that the heat reflection doesn't hurt the priming process, either. Great question, Rick! -Dave
The trouble with the Dairy Queen spoon is your always gonna be fantasizing about a Hot Fudge Sunday . Your stove is really Cool .
Haha..you are exactly right, Geoffrey! Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your nice comment, my friend! -Dave
😎👍💖 I enjoy very much, seeing other outdoors peoples cook kits.. lots of good ideas, you share in this video..thank you
Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your nice comment, Kanzee! I appreciate you stopping by, my friend! -Dave
Great kit, Dave. Thanks for sharing. Blessings and take care my friend, Nikki.
Thank you for the kind words, Nikki! Nice to hear from you, as always, and I hope everything is going well for you and your family, my friend! -Dave
Good video. Try using candle wicking to rap the handle of your IMUSA cup. It will allow you to pick it up without burning your fingers. I did it to my IMUSA cup and pot and it works great. I've also used the wick when building Foster beer can pots.
Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your excellent comment, my friend! I really appreciate the kind words and information, Dennis! -Dave
Spot on, Dave. Great options with your kit. Take, Care, Clark
Very nice to hear from you, Clark! Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your very nice comment and you take care, too, my friend! -Dave
I like the stove ......great tips
There is definitely a lot to like about the Svea 123R! Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your nice comment, my friend! -Dave
I had a svea. No clue where it went. Did you take it?
Great kit Dave. We evolve and improve. Nice video buddy. Tennessee
Very well said, Jeff...we evolve and improve! Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your awesome comment, my friend! It's always great to hear from you, brother! -Dave
Great as always Dave! how about a head to head comparison of the Svea vs a MSR Whisperlite?
Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your very nice comment, Kevin! I have never used an MSR Whisperlite but you never know what the future may hold, my friend! Great to hear from you! -Dave
Whisperlite Fans are pretty hard core and will defend their Stove to the bitter end .. and quite rightly so. By all accounts, it's a more than decent Stove.
That said .. I have the Optimus 8R Hunter (same Burner as the SVEA but with different furniture). Bought new in the mid-70's and still going strong.
Back in the late 80's, I was mulling over getting one of the then 'new', highly-touted in the Back Packing Community, Whisperlites. Did some long term (pre-Internet 😏) research and what eventually put me off was the 'maintenance kit' that appeared to be a regular required purchase. My 8R, in 45-odd years has only ever needed a Graphite Seal for the Burner Control Stuffing Box (approx 10 years ago) and just recently, a gasket for the Fuel Tank Cap.
Also .. the 8R (and SVEA) .. no Plastic. Take care ..
As always, an excellent video. You always put it out so simple for people which is so very nice. I love the dairy Queen spoon, on occasion I use chopsticks and I just ask for an extra pair at the Chinese restaurant, but I guess I'll be heading to dairy Queen to get a spoon!
Thank you for the kind words, my friend! It's great to hear from you and I appreciate you taking the time to stop by! Chopsticks in the woods are great and another item that is free to get! Let me know how the Dairy Queen spoon works out for you! -Dave
I still like that stove!!!! Good video brother!
Thank you for stopping by, brother! It's great to hear from you! I can't get enough of the Svea stove. It's heavier than many but I've pretty much refused to stop carrying it..hahaha! So much fun to use. -Dave
Excellent vid. Right on for choosing svra!
Thank you for the kind words! I appreciate you taking the time to stop by, my friend! -Dave

Great kit. You've given me some good ideas.
Thank you for watching, Jade! I am glad I could provide some ideas and I thank you for taking the time to stop by, my friend! -Dave
Off subject, had a Mora classic years ago. Long gone. Have a new one now thanks to you. Extremely the same and awesomely sharp. How do you sharpen yours when needed. Always enjoyable to see you. Many thanks.
Thank you for watching, Ron! I love the Mora Classic knives! I given away a few and lost a few but always replace them as soon as possible. I cannot get enough of the classics and I love that they are lightweight! I've really only ever had to "touch up" my Mora Classics, as opposed to truly sharpening them and I use a small ceramic rod and leather strop. If I do need to sharpen, I have the DMT Diafold diamond sharpeners I use. -Dave
Nice kit Dave! Have you ever tried Sprongs? They're made by Merkwares. They are a set with a long spoon and fork that fit together to use as tongs for cooking. They also have a lid lifter notch and are heat proof. I have a set and I love em. Don't mean to sound like a commercial but I like them that much. Enjoy the video and hope you and your family have a blessed Easter. Thumbs up.
I have never used them, but they sound excellent! You never sound like a commercial when discussing gear that you love. Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your awesome comment, Scott, and I hope you had an excellent Easter with your family! -Dave
The OZ Trail hobo tool is a low quality steel which you already know and the quality has gone down from the ones a decade or so ago, I had several of them to eventually rust and the joints and closing pins failed after a season or two from being washed, so I found a titanium spoon/ fork from UCO also at WalMart and much happier with it.
As much as I liked the OT hobo tool, it was nice to move on. The closing pins failed on both of mine, where they basically just fell off, and one of them began to rust and also, they are heavy and not the easiest tool to clean. They did last for several years, though. I am much happier with the long titanium spoon. Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your awesome comment, Den!
nice to see you and your SVEA getting along so well :-)
Yes, our relationship continues to grow strong after all these years...haha! Great to hear from you, my friend! -Dave

@@HighCarbonSteelLove Athena is big & gorgeous. I have been extremely busy with work & with mom having surgery. Mom is recovering very well & I will bring Athena back on a sooner than later video. Love you brother take care.
Engrave your CUP or spoon to have measurements, as for Fuel, use a Sports Water/Gatorade bottles that has screw off top but also has the Pull up drink spout to fill top of stove. like the DQ Idea, I have the titanium as well but good back up, and I wasn't sure if you could split up the mountain house with out it going bad. how long do they last after opened ?
I will definitely look into engraving in the measurement marks in the mug! I don't eat a lot of MH meals but when I do, I always split them up. I don't think they go bad, as they don't taste much different but i've never given it much thought...haha! Not sure how long they will last. I've probably gone a few weeks between times of breaking them up. I keep the 2nd half sealed in a freezer bag and cook right in that bag at a later time. Thank you for watching and leaving your awesome comment! -Dave
Very nice man happy Easter Dave and I would love to have a stove like that that thing is killer
Thank you for the kind words, my friend! I hope you had a Happy Easter and I appreciate you taking the time to stop by! -Dave
