I know about my german accent and in german television you will never hear me talk english - it´s all dubbed here with german language. Strainless holy fuck I'm a girl and I like her.
this show was very smartly directed, the design bewteen present, past and flashbacks everything was done in a way you perfectly understood but you were lost and knew you had to hang on for answers. The performances were brilliant, specially Dylan's. This is definitely not just another teenage tv show, this is a great show. The little queues to help the viewer understand and distinguish between times was so smoothly done. Dylan said on this interview something about not being the most famous person alive, I'm sure this guy will enter the A List when it comes to actors very soon, in a few years he's gonna get there. I'm talking Andrew Garfield, James Franco, Jim Sturgess kind of actor. He's SO talented and he's only 20. I hope Dylan and the whole cast in this genius show get even bigger roles now. They deserve it, and they are ready for it. That guy right there has given me hope for a next new generation of great actors. His work is amazing, just the right color this show needed to be fully brilliant. The performances, the creative direction, the script... for those who really care for this stuff, you'll agree when I say this is a masterpiece of a show.
Absolutely, this show backed up a strong narrative with some excellent filmmaking. Those extended, uncut shots and excellent transitions between past and present really adds to the experience.
Neel Parmar exactly. I think younger people will mostly just focus on the story and the boy and the girl but if you really pay attention, the show is pretty brilliant. I think either the director or one of the producers was the one who worked in Spotlight as well? So that kinda explains it. That was a genius movie with a story worth telling. I hope people won't take this show for granted and ruin it by turning it into another teenage drama show...
My 14 year old cousin showed me this and I thought it would be another one of her lame ass lovey-dovey shows but from the first few scenes I knew this one was different and special so I binge watched it over the next three days. I'm barely into my 20's myself but I can appreciate good film-making and this series deserves to be watched by more than just teens.
Neel Parmar you couldn't have said it better. I just turned 23 but I see mostly teenagers watching this show and feel like older people are missing out, while most teenagers watching it are staying with the superficial side of the show/story and talking about it as if it was another "gossip girl" or "pretty little liars" type of show (not my type of show at all) and just a very few audience actually pays attention to the real value of it all. First time in a long time that I've seen a cast of 98% very young actors playing roles of high school kids and doing their job THIS well.

Can I just point out that everyone who speaks has an accent technically. Everyone seems to be commenting 'wow I didn't know she had an accent!' Hahah just had to put that out there!

finished watching it and I must say it was so sad, and depressing but I loved that it really described highschool and how mean this generation can be it's a must see and I recommend that everyone should watch it!!
I'm 43yrs old and just finished watching this tv show yesterday. Very good. One of the scenes really shocked me , and I'm a butch bloke, but I won't spoil it for everyone.

Yeah, she probably slips in and out from playing the role and probably having an accent coach or something
She had to do accent reduction for the role, much like how Hugh Laurie in House had.
annabel li I've heard it too. But she's been speaking "American" for the better half of the day for almost eight months+the voiceovers so, some of it will slip in. It's good that it's happening and it is very healthy to master another dialect.

So to be clear, someone who was raised in Australia and is PUTTING ON an American accent has an accent i.e. Their normal voice is an accent. So does that make an American accent normal and an English accent not normal?
Alanna Cassen Well you weren't suppose to notice. She was playing an American in the show so that just means she did a good job at hiding her accent.

Here's the thing, if someone is from England or Australia, or any other English language speaking country or region, and they don't typically speak in an American accent of any kind, and yet you don't know or cannot tell they are from this or that place originally watching them on screen, isn't that a sign of a good actor?
