- Hello everyone! Today I'm adding up the total cost of daily driving my rx8 for a year, one of the biggest questions I had before buying my car was how expensive is it really to drive a rotary engine car? I didn't find much information on it so here's my data for you!
If you have any questions, leave them in the comment section! There is a 99% chance I will reply :)
Thanks for watching!

At 100k, anything original in the cooling system and any original cat are really suspect and failure prone. They represents the biggest threat to your engine. Replace.
Seeing the running costs my stomach sank a bit, but I'm not giving up!
You can do it!
I'm glad you made this kind of video because it pretty much showed how real it is to own these kinds of cars. I love how transparent you are with talking about your ownership of the car. I feel like it would help others be more understanding of other people's situations. Some people pay more, some people pay less. At the end of the day, everyone has their own situation with their life.
I've subscribed and been catching up with your videos. Keep it up, man!
I also upgraded to Conti Contact DWS06+ tires. I own a 2008 40th Anniversary Edition RX8 (only 1000 made like this in the world) . I bought it new in 2008 and now it is insured as a Classic Car for 150% of what I bought it for new in 2008, full value, no depreciation. I have owned seven rotary Mazdas since the 70's; one RX3, two RX4, all three generations of the RX7 with two of those RX7 modified by Racing Beat for the track. I easily have over a million rotary miles on street and track . Yes I have upgraded and improved my RX8, cooling modifications with Koyo-Rad radiator, Pettit Racing closed system, Racing Beat hoses, low temp thermostat, oil cooler low temp thermostats , low temp fan control, upgraded water pump, ; Mazdaspeed CAI, high performance BHR ignition coils and wires, upgraded starter, performance Cat and mid-pipe from Rotary Performance, BHR clutch pedal assembly, Series Two fuel pump upgrade, new clutch and engine (from Mazda warranty, no cost to me) and a few other things. I will be keeping my 40th Anniversary Edition RX8 forever. Wish I could have kept them all. Nothing drives like a rotary. FYI, I use 5W-30W non-synthetic oil and yes I pre-mix. Cheers and best to you.
Thanks for this video man, buying my first RX-8 soon and your content has been super helpful and informative!
Love everything was detailed and gives good insight for what future RX8 owners will deal with/need.🙌🏾
I glad you did this video. I'm horrible as at researching but I also crazy the thought of me owning an RX8
Be sure you have done all the Mazda recalls (free at any Mazda dealer) and you will want to think about replacing any Series One RX8 fuel pump with a Series Two fuel pump. The Series One fuel pumps will fail from high load, heat, and leave you stranded. The Series One fuel pump is way under-engineered. Change that out with a Series Two pump . Cheers
Previous owner told me that it was all done but I should really check with a dealer, thanks for reminding me!
@@Rxjeikun you are welcome. Yes any dealer can just check your vin number and tell you what recalls were done and any that still need to be done. Cheers
I find these to be very insightful and informative 😌 Cool vids 👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you!
I'm a Toyota Master tech
the experience the Rx8 offers to the
driver, is unique .
The car is worthy of investment
Got to love that alternate side parking.

First 😎 Loving these vids 🔥

@@Rxjeikun we all love what u upload
hey man! I just found your channel and your videos are awesome! I live in queens too and it’s really cool seeing someone local making quality videos! let me know if you’d ever wanna cruise or take some pictures together i have a miata i’m in the process of fixing up!
For sure! Follow my IG, you could pull up to local events that I share as well :)
First of all, what is the oil adapter?
I have bought a new rx8 on 2006 and until today I'm a happy owner with 200.000 km on the clock.
Never used pre-mixed and the maintance is what the owner's manual describes. Of course I use it as a secondary car.
Some advices to you are
1. Drive it in open roads and avoid the city's traffic, this is horrible for the rotary
2. Of course you have to red line the revs with all the gears (especially 3rd and 4th) whenerver you have the chance
3. Do all the factory's official upgrades and recalls (ECU, airbags, fuel pump, front suspension etc)
4. ENJOY THE CAR, it's FANTASTIC!!!!! :) :) :)
wish you the best from Athens, Greece!
Is it automatic or manual?
Manual@@rihasanatrofolo2472
Thanks for sharing those numbers! To pay 5000 out of pocket when it wasn't your fault is very unfair!
Sorry for the accident hope it won't happen again
I reeally hope not :')
Hi i like your videos, they're a big help with my first RX-8,where did you get the Sohn System??
I had to message the guy that makes them, and he sends you a order request thing on PayPal. Lemme see if I can find the email address for ya
the shop's cost seems a bit steep..... but after all not many people could diagnose a car like this. The tow cost is insane, I always knew it was pricey but damn. (the battery chargning fee should have been paid by the towing company since it was their mistake)
6K for instance... Bla mine is $550. But I'm older and live in Midwest.
That’s really unfortunate with your accident. Even if insurance totaled the car out you can buy it back and have it fixed yourself
how much did you buy the car for and from where looking to pic one up myself ? thanks
Personally, I would have a cheap beater to keep on the streets there for your daily. I would leave the RX at a family or good friends place if possible (for weekend fun) if they lived local-ish..
But, You have your Channel there, so..
Feel so bad that accident happened to you … my car was also involved in a hit and run while my car was parked too … had to replace rear driver door …
Very unfortunate, hope never happens again :(
Im thinking of getting an Rx8. Found a good one with an engine swapped 20k km but still a bit worried.
Compression test is key to sort that worry out! I'd check if there's any rotary specialist in areas near you 👀
Sadly you messed up on the accident I did the same to my civic around the same value it doesn’t go off KBB anymore
Where did the accident happen at
I live in queens and am thinking about getting a sports car too, 25m and the insurance rates make me not want to buy one at all 😭
I was paying close to 400 a month on my first car, which was a miata at 19 🥲
Great video. Check out “My 15 year experience with my Mazda rx8” of you want a historical review
Literally spent a whole years wage on just the car mod and maintenance not even including fuel…. That’s mad
I don't like thinking about that 🫠 but you're not wrong...
2007 series 1 owner with 107k miles, i just change the oil every year and change spark plugs every 15k miles
Spark plugs coming up for me 🫠
I realy love RX8 but it im still affraid about it and about money
I need to realy realy realy think about it cuz I want to change my car this year (right now I have peugeot 208 from 2012, 1.4vti engine 95hp)
I have a video about what I learned after a year of daily driving! If you think you can put up with those, then I think you'll have a good time :)
@@Rxjeikun I've already watched this video +short with starting when it's cold outside
All I'm affraid is this cold starting and fuel tbh
640 a year? Man in canada we get scammed (mostly because people cant drive and kids or immigrants with class 7 drive)
new videoo:0
I'm just curious, you were able to afford all of this while working at Starbucks and living in New York?!
Honestly I'm not sure how I do it 🥴 it's a struggle
26k... That's some people's yearly wage right there Jesus. Money well spent tho lol.
Lmao that's true, wish some of the expenses weren't needed tho but oh wells 🥲
Im looking at at 2004 rx8 30,000 miles.. is it worth getting it.. for $9,000
Thats a really good deal, I'd still compression test it tho!
@@Rxjeikun Thanks bro! Im think I'm going wait till next year .. I got get a few things out of the way first then it's green light..
what coil overs did you get for 400?
Tein Flex Z, I bought them "new" used. Someone bought it and never used it, I bought it off them for 400. Got lucky ✌️
That's pricey. I would just swap the engine for that money. Kswap!!
Comm3nt for the alg0
🫶 my hero
Dude has a money printing machine
I wish 🥲..
@@Rxjeikun I have a 04 rx8, Bridgeport, full exhaust 140k, soon to be turbo charged, SOHN, bunch of small mods, I'm not more than 9k dollars, but I did everything myself except engine rebuild.
wait ur gonna get a rx7 too? that'll be even more insane
Sometime soon hopefully! Just waiting for the right opportunity to come up :)
Damn you could have been buy a new car with that money
You not wrong, could've been saving htis whole time :')
But I wouldve missed out on the wonderful times I had in the car so I dont regret it!
@@Rxjeikun Yeah at least it gave you a lot of content for the channel and be part of the jdm scene
Laughs in 12A J port.
😂😂
My european ass would go bankrupt trying to run rx8 with our fuel costs, 1 litre for 1.5 dollar (6 dollar per gallon). I guess all is left is dreaming or a mx5
😂 crazy enough, it's really European rx8 content that introduced me to the car way back when
damn u have no family or friends with a truck and trailer? 1k on towing is absurd
nah I dont :(
@@Rxjeikun bro facebook marketplace has people that do it for less than $100 near me they’ll probably add extra depends on distance but in Australia that’s all
@@Rxjeikun I mean it might be hard to contact one for emergency and they might add extra for that as well but still probably cheaper
