    Brings back memories of my flight in 1967 from Auckland NZ, to Brisbane, to Darwin, and finally to Singapore. The DC-6 was the NZ Air Force's personnel transport plane at that time.

      @@JetFlix My only camera back in 1967 was a box brownie, neither practical nor permitted. The Air Force used the trip not only to transfer personnel to Changi, but to train flight crew on touch-and-go between Brisbane and Darwin. It was certainly a memorable journey.

      @@JetFlix yes a few dc-3 still fly there in daily deep jungle runs, sadly a tragic accident early last year is rising eyebrows and I don't think they will be flying for long... You better come down here and film before they are gone.

      @JetFlix  Před 4 lety +1

      Yes I heard about this ... and these are possibly the final months. But I was not sure. I have always wanted to visit Villavicencio going back to the 1980s and never made it. Without the propliners how will they move the cargo to the remote locations? With Cessna Caravans? Or other less efficient modern types? By the way I have another tape from Chris Mak showing all the other propliners back in 2001 and I will post it soon. There was also an An-32 working there at the time, it really is a fascinating place.

    I love the facilities. State of the art. Carry things up a ladder. Of course I am just joking. No need to be offended. I can imagine this plane crossing the country serving people. Goods and services. Mail. All sorts of things. Like in Alaska and places like that. A plane is vital. Transport. Without planes certain places in the world would cease to function. No road access. Maybe water access if lucky.

      Colombia siempre ha tenido aviones fascinantes porque los aviones más antiguos pueden hacer un mejor trabajo que los aviones más nuevos en un entorno exigente. Colombia tiene una historia asombrosa de la aviación, siendo Aviancia una de las aerolíneas más antiguas del mundo.

      Esta película fácilmente tiene entre 30 y 35 años de antigüedad. El DC 6 dejó de volar en Colombia hace igual numero de años, y para la época solo se los veía en Villavicencio cumpliendo verdaderos vuelos de enlace entre comunidades indígenas apartadas donde la única forma de llegar es por cano en viajes de entre tres días y semanas de viaje o por DC 3, que ya quedan pocos. Los DC 4, DC 6 y Curtis C 46 fueron desapareciendo paulatinamente por resultar extremadamente obsoletos y costosos de mantener. El personal armado que se observa en el primitivo aeropuerto son miembros de la Policía Nacional que para esa época mas o menos fueron atacados y sometidos en Mitú por las FARC en una toma y secuestro que duro 12 años. Esto para que te hagas una idea del valor que representan aun hoy en día los viejos aviones de la IIWW, principalmente el DC3.si eres aventurero y realmente aprecias el DC6 y el C46 en Alaska existe EVERET que tiene una flota respetable de unos y otros, al igual que en Canadá que los opera BUFALO. La razón por la cual en estos dos paises de economías tan fuertes y ricas operen aun estos hermosos dinosaurios es exactamente la misma que asiste a Colombia, regiones apartadas donde lo único que llega es el rio, la canoa y el DC3.

      The DC-6 had something very similar happen to it, the cabin heater fuel can drain line was too near the cabin heater intake and several planes caught fire and crashed killing all aboard when the plane was new, grounding all 6s for months.
      Not quite the same level of negligence AFAIK, but similar

There were armed guards all over the place. Before we began our work, we had a safety briefing. We were told that if a guard comes up to you and tells you to lie flat and put your face in the mud, if you were to refuse, the guard WILL shoot you dead!!! They meant business!
