    Lee Iacocca was born just 50 miles from where I live in Northeastern Pennsylvania. He was one sharp individual. He was a true captain of the automotive industry. Did you know Lee also developed and marketed a olive oil based type of spread (butter substitute)called "Olivio" it's really good. Lee Iacocca was a multi talented man and very down to earth. Also, those Yacco's hot dogs are a famous Allentown staple for local residents. They are very good!

    I agree 100% with you. Having owned a Corvair since 1983, I have to mention this. Lee saw the '60 and '61 Corvair Monza, which had bucket seats, better trim and a four speed on the floor accounted for about half of it's sales. The most expensive model sold the most. Lets take the Falcon and give it new sheet metal, lots of options and call it the Mustang.

    I remember him being in several Chrysler commercials.
    My parents had a 1993 Plymouth Voyager they bought new. They had it until 2004. It’s the car a learned to drive on. In the 1990s Chrysler minivans were everywhere, mostly the almost identical Dodge Caravan.

    The "father" of the Mustang, the "savior" of Chrysler and Jeep. A great man indeed! "If you can find a better car, buy it! After retiring from Chrysler, besides his involvement with the statue of liberty restoration, he was also the chairman of a non profit for diabetes research...his first wife died from complications of diabetes. He was a salesman at heart, and, without him, there would be no Mustang, and, no Chrysler, Fiat involvement or not, today. R.I.P. Lee!

    Thanks for the video! He and Roger Penske are the biggest contributors to Lehigh University. My son and daughter in law went to Lehigh. She actually met Lee there. My son is an Industrial Engineer and drives a 16 Ford Mustang GT. A local Ford dealer has old photos of Lee when he was working at the Philadelphia region on display in the dealer principal's office. Henry Ford, II was a drunk and not a good person. He would not allow Ford to build the minivan. Unlike Henry Ford II, Bill Ford saved Ford by hiring Alan Mulally back in September, 2006. Alan is a rock star among the dealers. Jim Hackett does not have a clue. He wants to make the company "fit" and advertises that Ford will not make cars anymore. I drove a K car (2.5L) in the 80's for a previous company. I liked the car a lot better than the Chevy Cavalier manual that it replaced. Lee was a great man and the non-engineering millennials need to know about him.

    Great video! Lee Iacocca was a genius, and when I saw you'd done a tribute to him, I knew it would be a good one. It seems everyone loves the Mustang, myself included, but being a Lincoln guy, I love the Mark III.
    Without him, I have to wonder what Ford would be today, or, on the flipside, I wonder what Ford would be today had they not fired him and implemented more of his ideas he ended up taking to Chrysler.
    I'm not particularly a fan of the K-Car or the minivan, but I understand and respect what they represent as far as ingenuity and the financial rewards they brought Chrysler when they desperately needed it. Of course, that's not to mention what he did with bringing Shelby over to Chrysler and his work on the Dodge Viper.
    RIP, Mr. Iacocca.

      I remember when he launched the minivan. He was fired at Ford when the Chairman there thought he was going to change the Ford name to The Iacocca Motor Company
      When Lee Iacocca launched the minivan the demand was so strong. Many automotive experts even said there was heavy demand not seen since he launched the Mustang at Ford. GM and Ford were scrambling to get a minivan to market after they saw how much of a hit it was. Ford was also shown the minivan proposal at Ford that Iacocca proposed was a smashing hit. Ford then realized the minivan market could have been theirs but they handed it to Chrysler.

    My first car was a 1978 cougar. It's my most favorite car I've ever owned (man I miss her). I didn't know Lee was behind the design.
    As for his time at Chrysler he was the best and worst thing to happen to the company. While he did single handedly keep the company from the graveyard at that time, the quality of the vehicles dropped drastically. They started sourcing some of the cheapest parts available which kept the car repair guys I knew in business. Seriously several of my friends were mechanics back then and every last one of them told me not to buy Chrysler products unless I was planning to pay them a lot of money to keep it running. It wasn't fanboyism, it was their actual experience as they worked on those more than any other.

    I love your stuff bear, and the point of this video was to honor the guy, however those K cars were the worst. Maybe the concept was a great idea though. If anybody bought one of those I'll bet it was very difficult to sell them another Chrysler. I was a valet at one of the Disney hotels during that time and I drove a lot of different cars. Those tin cans had horrible engines and they did not last. When you spend your hard earned dollars you want the thing to last and not be in the repair shop all the time.

    • @HarrisonCountyStudio
      @HarrisonCountyStudio Před 5 lety

      Your right, and during the same time Chrysler sold a little Dodge named the dodge Colt. This car set the bar in the mid 1980’s. Chrysler sold millions of Colts with Mitsubishi engines that got great gas mileage and lasted for 200,000+ miles! That was a feat for most cars built before 1980. Even better, Dodge came out with the Shelby model colt, the Dodge Shelby GLS (goes like hell). These little 4 cylinder, turbo charged, factory cars were cheaper to purchase and quicker than any Mustang or Camero of the day.

    • @louiscates6975
      @louiscates6975 Před 5 lety

      Have to disagree with both comments. The K cars were no better or worse than the offerings from Ford or Chevy, at the time. You would have to be more specific on the particular engine/trans package in relation to reliability because there were several. Regardless, they were very easy to work on.
      The Dodge Omni was the car that set the bar The Omni was based on the VW Rabbit and actually came with VW running gear the first couple of years untill Chrysler developed the 2.2L.
      The development of the Omni was key to the K platform.
