      Yessir one of our best days this year. Best thing about it we didn't think we'd find much because we'd had looked it before. Thanks for watching. By the way the point Ron found is more than likely a Simpson.

    Just getting around to catching up on videos and WOW!!!! You guys hit a honey hole!!! Killer after killer!! Man, y’all flatter me with your kind words and confidence in my ability to ID our local points!! I’ve definitely put some time in on research, but there’s so much more to learn and that’s all we can do, take time to learn and I learn something new about this stuff every day!!! There are so many points that are almost identical, but tiny, minuscule variations separate one point from the next. Take the Pontchartrain and Flint Creek points for example. At first glance, they look like the same point. And they are both late archaic to early woodland pieces. The silhouette is identical, but the p-train has the median ridge and no serrations, while the flint creek has an elliptical cross section and is finely serrated. I mention this because the paleo piece y’all found is one of those that will almost always have people guessing!! Without having it in my hand, and going off of what I can see from the video, my opinion is right in line with your assessment in the vid. Definitely appears to be in the mid paleo era. I’m assuming it has basal and hafting region grinding. It obviously has basal thinning and an elliptical cross section. I would class this point as small to medium for our area, and along with the fore mentioned characteristics as well as overall shape, I’d have to say Quad. The fact that these points are almost always used to exhaustion, having been resharpened many times over, makes them very difficult to distinguish from Hinds, Pelican, Dalton variants and even sometimes San Patrice points!! But yours held its shape , (constricted waist), excurvate to incurvate blade very well and it’s auricles were well intact. You could ask 5 different people and get five different opinions, but for what it’s worth, this is mine according to McGahey’s MS point guide. But whatever you decide to call it…..it’s nothing short of incredible my friend!! Congrats to you both on a stellar day of hunting and finding!!! 👍🏻😎

      @thearrowheadreapers8668  Před 2 lety +1

      We were sure it was a Paleo at first sight, I could tell by the look on Ron's face he has something special. He told me " you might want to film this one" lol. We did discuss wether it was a quad or a Dalton type. Dave O suggested that it could be a Simpson type. Which looking it up it matches it pretty much. I'm certainly not a expert but it's fun to have a find like that to discuss and share. Always learn from your input and it's much appreciated 👍 that was a surprising day we had already looked that spot earlier in the year and didn't expect much GOD sure smiled on us. I tried to call you last week to go see what you thought about the spot I mentioned earlier this year. I would like to take you there soon if you have time. I'll be in touch my friend.

      @@thearrowheadreapers8668 I appreciate the invite for sure!! And I hated I missed your call….we were in New Orleans with my dad for a few days. I tried calling you back, I just had that feeling you had stumbled onto something big!! I’ve been doing a little of everything this summer except arrowhead hunting!! We’ve been super busy and Zach’s gone till after next weekend. Hopefully we can resume hunting when he gets back! It’s really too hot to dig but I can only go so long without finding a point!! 😜. Hope y’all had a safe and happy 4th bud!!

    Salut and Cheers Reaper!
    Very nice artifacts.... those Ponchetrain (sic) points are something else, though I think my favorite was that skinny dark point that Ron mustered to the roll! Glad you got the time to spend some time with family, doing exactly what you love doing.... and then, thank you for sharing!

      Salut and cheers to you also, I do enjoy going with him he's been a bit camera shy but I'm working on that. I do also like the ponchetrains . Their not as glorious as the corner notch and Paleo points as some opinions would be. But their well made artifacts 👍 thank you as always my friend. Have a blessed fourth of July. And give the little kitty a could petting for me.😃

    Congratulations guys, sweet stuff, I think I would go with Simpson instead of Suwannee. The blade edges on a Suwannee do not come out farther than the base. The Simpson have the smaller base with broader blade. Just a thought. Thanks for sharing your adventures. Good luck on your next hunt. Looking forward to seeing what you find.

      Hey Dave O I hope all is well with you. I do believe that you are correct on the point being a Simpson . Thanks much for the correction. I'm always a little Leary about naming points. My buddy Mike at pine belt relics always helps me out on them. Thanks again for watching.
