Hey guys, welcome to the tenth episode of What Was Cut. Today I'm showing you all the unused content found in Need for Speed Underground 2. It was pretty fun to dump those textures and look through them as I'm not sure if they've been seen before, please correct me in the comments if I'm wrong though. The coloured fog was interesting to me too because a lot of sources claim it was used in the demo of Need for Speed Underground 2, but that doesn't seem to be the case as I was playing the demo and you can see a lot of demo footage that doesn't have the coloured fog. The footage I got of it was in the retail version. I'm sorry about the various parts of the video where the sound is silent, this game gas so much copyrighted music it's crazy and I can't turn it off in the demo as that's where most of my footage is from. Anywho, I hope you enjoyed and I'll see you in the next one!

Funny fact about the Japanese 350Z it was actually a real car a EA employee owned and was a special version of the game exclusive to Japan
wow yet another
"EXCLUSIVE" for the Japanese
@@0Heeroyuy01 Don't forget all the Exclusives for Americans in later NfS games.
Shit goes both ways.
@@ToreDL87 what exclusives???
@@0Heeroyuy01 The Acura RSX and the Honda Civic was North America exclusive in this game.
@@DripDripDrip69 The Japanese may get special 350Zs, but they'll never take our liberty and riced out Civics 🦅🦅
Just a guess but the unused vinyl "Stuff" could be based on Stuff magazine, which is a mens mag and features, part clothed, models, but also vaguely adjacent to car culture at the time in the UK, it would have been cut for not being age appropriate.
Yeah, but it was present in UG1
All the vinyls shown are from UG1, it's basically leftovers from sponsor cars from UG1 - Rob zombie, Mystikal, Petey Pablo and so on, these can be also restored with mods.
Driving the lock was crazy 😭🤣
15:14 - The radar dish is meant to say SETI - Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence
20:10 - The vinyl names are leftovers from Underground 1 - that game had special cars for the artists whose songs were used in the soundtrack, Eastsiders vinyl name also gives that away.
Plus the Stuff vynil was definitely in one of the Underground games. I've seen it in the vanilla game, it just says "Stuff" in a red font on a hay background. Not a very spectacular vinyl, actually.
@@LRM12o8stuff is a magazine
10:00 actually, the Black 350z is from the Japanese Sha_do release, which was separate from the normal release in Japan. Sha_do is an artist who made the livery on that 350z as well as 7 Vinyls that replaced some contest Vinyls!
Aren't the paintable vinyls (tear, stripe, modern, tribal, flame) made also by SHA_DO?
20:04 those vinyls are leftover from the previous game, they are for the bonus cars of UG1. vinyl named STUFF is probably for Stuff Magazine
That Stuff magazine vinyl is available in UG1
Hi HIF, mechanic here, an insight into your closing repair shop story. Sometimes when we accept a job and start the repair or examining the process of the repairs more closely we may realize we either underestimated the complexity of the work, can't source the correct parts we need, under-quoted ourselves to the point of the job not being profitable for us or affordable for you. Or require specialized tooling to complete it that we might not be able to source or is too expensive to buy for a one time use.
Really enjoyed this episode, sunk many teenage hours into this game.
That tuned padlock is my favourite xD
One thing i noticed while playing the ps2 demo, when you fill your second "nos bottle", the hud should show a pulsing yellow colour instead of light blue. this pulsing yellow colour still can be seen in drag races in final build.
fender customization was supposed to be carbon fiber fenders btw, no vents.
I thought it was an option to get widebody fenders..
@@MrMetropolis nope, widebody fender options wouldn't make sense since the wide bodykits option still exists, like from a developer point of view, wide fenders are a bad idea unless they are forced into a whole kit, imagine putting a wide fender option and all the front bumpers are modeled for regular fender fitments 😂, worse case scenario they would have to make twice as many bumpers to cover the differences
@@SDRIFTERAbdlmounaim The wide-body kits can't be mixed with regular customization and are fairly limited tho (at least I think so, idk if anything changed since Underground 1's wide-body kits cuz I've never actually finished Underground 2). But yeah, it would require a horrendous amount of resources and time to make multiple variations of each bumper just to make it work, and they especially didn't have enough time considering they were doing yearly NFS game releases lol
imagine desert drive and it's dunes may have been why we had suv's,
It's possible suv's were required for offroad racing there maybe but were removed because the devs thought being forced to drive a specific vehicle would hinder player choice and instead opted for the optional route for suv's since the models were already finished.
Great video, waiting for MW, Carbon n ProStreet!
@slightlyinsaneraf Not a problem, I'm a huge fan of NFS so more will definitely be coming
Man this video is absolutely outstanding, ive been into this "Unused/removed" stuff for a while but never seen things like the Paint shop graphics, the car meet spot theory (purple lights), ballons which is some really impressive idea for its time. You did great on this one :D
These videos have been amazing. I love how quick they feel without skimping on the details. Also you mentioned a Rob Zombie vinyl name that you found in the game. That could be a leftover asset considering NFSU featured a Rob Zombie special vinyl, or maybe they were planning to bring it back for the sequel.
Randomly come across this but its good for someone else that hasn't seen any underround 2 vdeos on this stuff. I knew a fair bit already but good stuff really. Do more lol.
@mydogzty Yeah, I knew a lot of this as well prior to doing research but hey, it's here for the people who haven't seen much information about this game. Did you know about the textures? Those were all new to me lol
@@HackingIsFreedom yea I knew that hotel one but no worries still a good video keep them coming. You should showcase some mods, and anything extra to know about the game from your expirence.
Seeing someone make a video about the cut details of this gem of a game... This puts a smile on my face!
This was such a nice trip down memory lane. Thank you! You should do all the need for speeds!
2am watching this but great video good to know our old gem nfs had a lot of cut content thank you for taking your time to make this video!!!
Really loving the content ! Dual Hearts is a pretty obscure PS2 games and it also has debug symbols available. Might have some cut content left as it's a pretty unexplored game.
I honestly didn't know this much stuff was left behind. Fantastic video my guy
awesome video, man! it makes me search a lot of things, keep doing this :)
Great video, you showed cut content that I never saw before
S2000 would have fit UG2 so well
This video was awesome! Great work! Subbed because I really like cut content... content.
i love this stuff, keep it going man!
The mechanic put the price sky high so you deny the job, and then you accept it. Hahaha
Funny how he objectively ran away right after
WE NEED that fog mod for the game though, would be cool to have a more developed weather system
3:19 and Canards or Wide body flares. We got wide body, but only preset kits... so that wouold be a further option, front / back fenders from different sets ect.
Thank you, this is the best for me, video secrets of underground 2. I hope you do more.
6:57 noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
that was just a prank. It isn't its own car. It came with Olympic Imports
@379Felipe 🤣🤣 I thought it was too when recording but couldn't confirm. I made it sound good, no? 🤣
@@379Felipe I'm also a fan of your content Felipe, been Subscribed for years now 😆
@@HackingIsFreedom oh thanks! Ye the Lock car was just an april fools. The model is actually in GLOBALB, along some other models like the GPS arrow and possibly some debug cubes
@379Felipe Ahh, okay thanks for the info 🫡
@@HackingIsFreedom np, everything else was on point and it was quite interesting
I never knew the U2 map had another area (desert drive) that was cut
- There's a build of the game that still has the "spaghetti bowls" mostly intact, but also some that are invisible. There are screenshots of what they looked like before they were cut as well.
- Also, there are a few barriers in place when you free roam in the final version of the game, but are removed for select races. With a few changes you can fully remove these barriers for both the races and free roam. Doing this will give you access to roads that aren't even accessible outside of those races.
I would have been bummed to know all those years ago that the S2000 was supposed to make it in
Can't believe that this old masterpiece still has some secrets to be found! 15:07 the fifth text, second word looks like "Shop" so maybe some shop of sorts?
Cool overview. The Rob Zombie Vinyl (as well as Petey Pablo and Lostprophets) is certainly a carryover from NFSU1. Shame that NFSU2 only got vinyls for Chingy and Capone. A Mudvayne Vinyl would have been my favourite!
And if a mechanic refuses to do work on your car, then he most certainly considers your car a safety hazard, regardless of effort put into its repairs. You're probably best off getting another ride entirely.
awesome video
great video
the lock thing.
i know from ripping models form NFS UG, that things get put at 0,0,0 in the cars 3d space if there's no defined point for them to show up at. that's why all the parts for the lock and right at the center
The unused vinyls towards the end of the video are all the vinyls used on the unlockable special cars in the first underground game. I also wanted to mention in the full game there's a part of road unaccessible. Perhaps by pigeon park. I remember seeing it often and wondering if it was part of the map removed. This video could potentially prove my theory right, I just don't remember the details exactly
That's an honest mechanic. $1600 into a $2000 car isn't worth it. Keep going to them.
Those early shops backgrounds seems to be a placeholder/concept before they build the 3D final versions, you can notice they are a 2D image with the cars on it.
@Victor_2000s Yeah, it's most likely concept art because all shops besides the Body Shop and the Car Lot are not accessible in the demo.
@@HackingIsFreedom your video is very good. Do you know if the workshop background mod can be recreated in 2D as it was seen in that conceptual art?
nice man!
17:08 actually this isn't the "final" final map, but a version that is more known as "ghost city" or "race city"
The only difference is the highway intersection in the middle of City Core is open on the south, whereas it's closed in the final map.
You do drive on this version in one of the drag races, where you even drive through that very intersection.
u can get some of those cut content wheel rims when in career you beat racers in free roam and you get 1 of those stars on the map where u race to some shop where u get to choose a free item from a few options
thank you
20:08 nfs games starting from underground 1 up to carbon share the same structure at core, thus you see familiar names and files when looking through them
these mentioned vinyls were all used in the underground 1 but were cut here cause they were exclusive to that game.
I think the fender and hood icons would've represented carbon fibre variants of the stock parts. Maybe vents for the fenders too, but if you've played UG2 like I have, you know how this feels like it would make sense.
Thanks
the OASIS TEARDROP wheels you can get them by playing outrun races in freeroam, by beating 3 or 4 oponents
@@maximilianosmargiassi2968 Yes, however there were plans for them to be selectable like the rest of the rims. That's what I'm showing here.
any plans for the later midnightclub series for the what was cut series? That'd be sweeeet :3
Hey, nice video man!
I have e question: so i have my NFSU2 installed with the right exe SPEED file and I have extra options mod. But when I go to debug menu and find option for hood decals it shows like 198 options, but as I cycle through them not a single one show on the hood. If i choose other decals through debug menu - they work fine. Did you encounter such problem?
I bet that desert drive was supposed to be palm spring, salton sea and imperial sand dunes in socal
6:46 The Charger was in the PSP rendition titled "Underground Rivals", not the DS version. UGR also added the SVT Mustang, 1968 Mustang Fastback, & even the Corvette C5 as Muscle cars which rival the tuners
They really robbed us from Hood Decals? Damn. I wouldve loved that!
the 1st bug that changes the colors i thought like YOU ARE GOING TO MEXICO and turns everything yellow xD
The beta map looks like a dead ringer for night city lmao
For some reason as a kid I hated this game because I thought everything was tedious to unlock
these rims weren't cut, they're prizes for outrun races
@@Mamac2006 Still cut, as they are not selectable after swapping them out.
you can't say the content is cut just because it's only available in career
@Mamac2006 Well, they obviously had plans to make them selectable like the rest of the rims but that didn't happen. Therefore, they were cut from the list.
That red rx-8 is fucking gnarly lol
nfsu2 is LEGEND!!!
That city…wish we could reach it.
Looks like all the random vinyls you showed near the end were just vinyls from nfsu1.
Yes, they all were. They represent bands/artist from the UG1 soundtrack, except for the Stuff one, which represents a magazine.
I think the reason why the Dodge Charger data is in Underground 2 is due to it’s inclusion in Underground Rivals for the PSP, which more or less runs on the same engine as Underground 1 & 2 i think, cars in that game retain their UG1 engine audio but UGR has the UG2 soundtrack
Underground Rivals was developed after Underground 2 release, they can't be related.
@@Victor_2000s oh i see
6:57 LMAO 😀
Huh, pretty sure those Advan rims were in the game, had them on my tricked out TT.
I remember there was a small spot in the park area which was placed on a minimap but there was nothing in the game. I recall trying to look over the bushes when I was a kid. I wonder what was this all about.
Yeah, I had to think of that when he said "Hyde Park is already finished", thinking Hyde Park isn't even finished in the final release of the game, since there is a short path on the mini map that's not accessible.
That spot drove me wild as a child, I kept thinking there must be some secret way to unlock it and kept trying and later googling for it.
13:34 it kind of is? The billboards might be virtual but the ads EA placed on them were usually real.
20 years ago, what the heck.
@RedLine_Renesis I know right! Crazy
Was that a lost prophets vinyl at the end? yikes haha
They had one of their songs in Underground 1
hey hey. i had a strange bug on my xbox version actually highlighting outside of the map for a drift race in the hights area. it was to the left out to sea, similar to that dot on the map. but the arrow still brought me to the race in heights.
9:59 not entirely true, this vinyl was exclusive to the Sha-Do version of NFSU2 which only released for the PS2, there was also a regular PC japanese UG2 release with a green 350z and everything else just like the EU version.
I'm not sure if there was a non-Sha-Do NTSC-J release for PS2 though. It was the case with UG1 and UG1 J-Tune but I don't remember ever seeing a regular PS2 release of UG2.
wow we couldve had the NSX in U2?? What a shame we didnt get it
Could’ve sworn I seen those Advan wheels in the final game but under a different name
yeh there’s def different tri spokes that look similar or are identical
@@ANTHOO99 yeah I think they’re in the Konig section
I believe the advan rg and the racing v2 was in the regular game for ps2 it was called konig hurry and i forget the other one however the rg and the hurry looks exactly the same in the game but in real life look totally different like konig hurry is actually ugly n looks old the advan rg looks dope
Who would want to use an electric unicycle?
Is there anyone who can recreate in mod at least that background in the 2D style of the workshops like the conceptual art style of the betas for underground 2?
Does that phone number on the lease sign actually work?!
I wonder why there seems to be no mod to unlock widebodies for all cars or am I just blind?
The orange 3000gt look too much like the one in 2fast 2furious prelude
turn up your video volume
Have you played the godfather games
They use the same engine as the simpsons game and the storys fit well into the films
I've played a bit of The Godfather on PS2. Yeah, it runs on the same engine as The Simpsons Game, there's a ton of leftovers from The Godfather in The Simpsons Game if you didn't know. I actually covered them in my WWC Simpsons Game episode.
As i know there somehre are sound files of golf vr6
You did a 20 min video of a game that has some cut content, imagine doing burnout cut content, it will be a 2+ hour video
4:39 music?? Plz
Video resolution of PS2 NFSU2 seem to be stretched vertically. PC version is still the best
I heard cops were supposed to be in UG2. Was that true, by any chance?
@NFSBeast2365 Yeah, there's some cop chatter. It seems to be the same from NFS MW.
Какие знания скрыли?
My PlayStation 2 can still run this game
My Linux PC can still run the game, and in 32:9 too!
Could you please make your gameplay wider? It's not wide enough.
@@semy28nfs Lol, that's the PS2 resolution for ya
I remember playing the version that had nsx in it on ps2
There was no nsx in underground 2 tho
@JukoYT but i remember playing it
It was around 6 pm
I was playing it with my cousin on his ps2
We were on summer vacation in our village
Its a fake memory of Mandela Effect, doesn't exist any public version of the game with the Honda NSX, probably you memory mixed Juiced memories with NFS memories.
I wanna play this game so bad😩
